Anyone in Scotland making a new application? DLA/Child Disability Payment?

Hi everyone.

Not seeing much at all on support forums about the new Scottish child disability payment and wondered if anyone on here has recent experience of applying for the CDP in Scotland?

Afaik, all new applications from Scotland now need to go to Social Security instead of DWP and this has been in place since November 2021.

I made my child’s application at the start of the year about 7 weeks ago. Called today to ask for an update and was told it was with a case manager and I’ll be notified by letter once a decision has been made.

Apparently this new system is supposed to be faster and fairer than DLA? All current recipients of DLA living in Scotland should be getting moved over to CDP over the next year according to their website.

Anyway, if anyone has recently applied, I’m wondering how long it took all in for a decision to be reached?

Thanks.

@Polly421 I think I’m going to wait until the end of the week as well. All the communication I’ve done is over the web chat but I’ve not been given much detail, I don’t know if maybe I’ll get a better indication as to what is happening if I phone them? I’m just curious to see what my daughter will be awarded.

Polly421 · 10/05/2022 15:02

@RogelM ive phoned over last 8 weeks twice and both advisors have been really helpful. As far as I’m aware they can only tell you if decision has been made but not give you details of the decision. I only spoke with case manager as on my first call a few weeks ago I called to say my son had a new aid delivered for his physio and he now has been referred for a neurology app. So he called last week to say if I could submit anything to support these change then to send them asap. So I sent in recent letter from paediatric doctor confirming plans for next 6 months until next review. That mentioned his referral and he now has received standing frame. So I don’t know if the work on a several cases at one time gathering information etc. I did call next day to confirm letter was received and they left not saying they picked up evidence I sent and are working through application.

RogelM · 10/05/2022 16:12

@Polly421 I’ve just went back on we chat in the off chance there was an update - unfortunately not. However, the advisor told me that it can take between 6-8 weeks from case manager getting the case and a decision being made. Unfortunately our case was only picked up last Tuesday so looks like we’ve got at least another month of waiting.

RogelM · 10/05/2022 16:14

@Polly421 I assumed the 6-8 week decision time was from the application and supporting evidence being completed. So our application was completed 17th March and not picked up until 3rd May!!

Polly421 · 10/05/2022 18:21

@RogelM hopefully it’s not as long at that as that could mean another 7 weeks. We applied for DLA last year for my daughter and took decision marker a few days to make decision, I suppose it varies depending if they need further information to complete it. Her application from they received it took about 10 weeks before decision was made.

Polly421 · 11/05/2022 13:47

@RogelM so me being impatient I contacted webchat today and then girl confirmed a decision has been made. She can’t discuss details of decision to wait until we received letter for this but did state his first payment is due 13/05/2022 so looks like he been awarded something.

RogelM · 11/05/2022 14:18

@Polly421 that’s amazing! I’m so glad you finally got it and the waiting game is over!

Polly421 · 11/05/2022 14:25

@RogelM i sent the completed part of application on 17th of March so fingers crossed you here soon. His case was picked up last week too so pretty identical to your application. My little boy is 19month so know he won’t be entitled to any mobility but he should in my opinion receive the high rate care based on his needs and care we give him.

RogelM · 11/05/2022 14:38

@Polly421 I was the 16th March but didn’t actually upload the supporting evidence until the 29th March. I’m not sure if that will matter as the case was only picked up last week anyway. I am in a similar situation although my daughter is 3 but don’t think she will qualify for the mobility part but for the care component we feel she is between middle and high. I’m hoping we hear soon!

Polly421 · 11/05/2022 15:00

@RogelM I don’t think it should matter as I sent in another document only last week because I mentioned a new aid and he asked if I could send anything in regarding it. Luckily we had appointment with doctor week before and she sent us out letter that mentioned his new aid and it listed my son has 7 individual problems there monitoring at the moment. When I done his application I just put down one gross motor delay.

roughtyping · 12/05/2022 12:35

@Polly421 glad things are moving forward for you. Finally got DS's letter through - he's been awarded high rate care and low rate mobility until 2024. I liked that the letter explains their reasonings etc - it was written in quite a friendly way - I realise that might sound a bit daft but helps to personalise it I think!

Polly421 · 12/05/2022 13:34

@roughtyping thats great, I have heard their letters are better, more in-depth of the reasoning for award. We should receive a payment tomorrow so I think I’ll be able to work out from there what he’s been awarded as he’s too young for the mobility part. I don’t expect a long award for him either as he’s 3 next year so I think they would review him then regarding any changes and his mobility needs then.

Polly421 · 13/05/2022 10:58

I got a payment today looks like he’s been awarded high rate care based on weeks we’ve been waiting. I couldn’t work it right out as don’t know if they pay you from date you applied or few days later. So just need to wait for letter now.

roughtyping · 13/05/2022 12:56

@Polly421 that's great news. They backdate it to when you submitted the first part of the application (that's why I couldn't work mine out - I knew when I'd submitted the final part but not the first). Hopefully a bit of relief for you!

RogelM · 13/05/2022 13:09

@Polly421 great news and you’ll get the letter soon and it should tell you a bit more detail! I completed the first part on 15th February so mines should hopefully get backdated till then.

Polly421 · 13/05/2022 13:10

@roughtyping yes it will definitely help so much. Does the letter tell you future payment days or will it just be another 4 weeks from today?

roughtyping · 13/05/2022 13:14

@Polly421 my DS's letter said 'we will then pay DS's weekly award of £x. You will receive a payment into your account every 4 weeks on a Tuesday beginning X date.' Mine was a bit odd as back payment went into my account over a bank holiday weekend.

Polly421 · 13/05/2022 13:20

@roughtyping @RogelM thanks. Hopefully your not waiting too long for your decision now.

Polly421 · 14/05/2022 13:46

@roughtyping @RogelM we received the award letter today. He was awarded HRC until September 2025. They noted when he turns 3 he may been entitled to HRM so will review that part then when he becomes 3 if he not eligible, he will be reviewed when he’s 5 so to see if he entitled to LRM and review his care needs also at this time. Letter was so detailed and more personal to his application.

RogelM · 14/05/2022 14:50

@Polly421 thats so good I’m glad you got the details from the letter. I also meant to say there is another fund that you will be eligible for called the take a break scotland fund. I had no idea about it but one of my daughters key workers at nursery told me about it! Still radio silence over here also but keeping an eye out.

Polly421 · 15/05/2022 10:43

@RogelM I never knew about take a break Scotland fund. We were told about the family fund by the paediatrician who sees both my daughter and son about applying things they may need. You can apply to that for all various things, you should check that out also.

chase12 · 29/05/2022 11:01

Just a wee up date, as from Wednesday 25th May the application has been placed into Manager waiting list for outcome, however it could take another month for decision due to being in dated with lots more claims than they were expecting. Hope they recruit and train more staff to help with the processing time scales or review and update the current 6 to 8 weeks.

RogelM · 29/05/2022 12:31

@chase12 i was told this as well a 6-8 week wait from when the case manager gets it not when it’s been completed. Ours was handed to case manager on 3rd May so looking like it could be another month before we get a decision. Completed the application 16th March!

chase12 · 29/05/2022 17:36

@RogelM ,I thought yours had been completed must of been someone else. I do think they need to change there wording tho to reflect the extended waiting times, as it would help take the anxiety off a bit as the whole process with exception should be 6 to 8 weeks. Where as the application seems to be sitting awaiting the client advisor to check all paperwork and cross reference with the system, in my case that was week 10 then when this has been checked it goes into another waiting list for the Case Manager to make the decision which can be longer if they are needing more info to help make the right decision and at present they are back logged so could be another few weeks. Well hopefully you will have your decision soon 🙂

sam1345 · 30/05/2022 13:10

How long have people been waiting on applications being processed we are on week 10 for child disability payment and not even with case manager yet
