Anyone in Scotland making a new application? DLA/Child Disability Payment?

Hi everyone.

Not seeing much at all on support forums about the new Scottish child disability payment and wondered if anyone on here has recent experience of applying for the CDP in Scotland?

Afaik, all new applications from Scotland now need to go to Social Security instead of DWP and this has been in place since November 2021.

I made my child’s application at the start of the year about 7 weeks ago. Called today to ask for an update and was told it was with a case manager and I’ll be notified by letter once a decision has been made.

Apparently this new system is supposed to be faster and fairer than DLA? All current recipients of DLA living in Scotland should be getting moved over to CDP over the next year according to their website.

Anyway, if anyone has recently applied, I’m wondering how long it took all in for a decision to be reached?

Thanks.

Sounds like people’s experiences of the child disability payment are largely positive though pretty slow. I am mid transfer to CDP from DLA (as in I got a letter saying the transfer would be taking place, no review just now, amounts and dates will carry on as normal). One thing I did wonder though - the next review date for DLA was in a year from now; does the date stay the same for CDP or will it be longer till it’s reviewed? I would rather put off the form as long as possible!

Hi @sam1345 it seems like we might have applied at similar times. My application got handed in 12 weeks ago and I thought 6-8 weeks wait time for the decision from that date. Wrong. It went to the case manager on the 7th week (wc 2nd May) and I was told from then it was a 6-8 week decision. Whether we will have a decision in that time frame I have no idea. Some people on this thread completed their applications at the same time I did and had decisions weeks ago so I’m not sure at all how it works. I think 6-8 weeks decision from when application is completed is what they aim for but I think just now they’re far from it.

RogelM · 07/06/2022 12:30

@sam1345 im checking in weekly on the webchat to find out if a decision has been made I think they’re sick of me tbh. One advisor was like “as per our last conversation” and I was like no I will keep pestering lol

sam1345 · 07/06/2022 12:35

Yes similar times I sent mine in I keep going onto web chat to ask for update and still in same position
hopefully it not long and we both hear what happening I will pester them at end of week see if any further forward it the waiting to find out it so stressful

RogelM · 07/06/2022 13:33

@sam1345 its so stressful isn’t it! I applied when my daughter didn’t have a diagnosis but she’s now since got an autism diagnosis but still no further forward. It’ll be 8 weeks on 28th June since the case manager has had her case so I’m hoping we hear by then.

chase12 · 07/06/2022 14:13

Terrible long time for everyone, think they have added in Q& A's , copy and paste into the chat as this was the first time I had this response from them but I replied with can you confirm if the Case Manager has started the review or is it still awaiting to be started and she confirmed that it's still sitting awaiting to be started. I still think they need more staff to cope with the demand for the services as I do think it's to long for children with disabilities to be waiting. Hope they have the staff to deal with the swapping over from DLA and they are not left waiting.

sam1345 · 07/06/2022 16:17

I have had a phone call off them just now asking me a few more questions and said she was the case manager and she would be finishing the application should have outcome in the post by next week she was really nice yeah we don’t have diagnosis yet but under for autism and possibly adhd it the amount of care they need you don’t have to have diagnosis it just helps

Polly421 · 07/06/2022 17:30

@sam1345 my case worker called me when we were waiting and a few days later decision was made. So fingers crossed for you.

RogelM · 07/06/2022 18:11

@sam1345 fingers crossed that’s the decision being made for you soon!

sam1345 · 07/06/2022 18:18

Can I ask when case worker rang you did you get letter in next few days as I have seen on here they don’t tell you anything over phone they have to send letter ? I am hoping so not to much longer to wait

sam1345 · 07/06/2022 18:19

Fingers crossed should no the outcome soon hope you get yours sorted soon too

chase12 · 07/06/2022 18:25

@sam1345 , that's great news for you. How many weeks in total for you?

sam1345 · 07/06/2022 18:32

chase12
it has been 10 weeks for me

Polly421 · 07/06/2022 19:16

@sam1345 case manager ask me to send in anything to say my little boy had another aid as I called during process to say another one was supplied so next day I checked he received it, he noted he did. I checked day or so later on webchat if decision had been made all the advisor told me was decision was made and I would receive a payment on x date. No mentioned of amounts etc That’s all she could tell me, so I took her was awarded something. Letter came the following week. Letter was very detailed and he awarded high care until he’s 5 and they would review only mobility part next year when he was 3 for high rate mobility and if he didn’t met criteria for that they will do full review for carer and mobility at 5 as he may met criteria for low mobility.

Rm1983 · 08/06/2022 10:04

Just posting in here to see everyone's updates etc. My 9 year old child was diagnosed with ASD in December last year but only recently found out I could apply for this extra help. I only completed my application on 11th May so aware there's a good wait ahead. How has everyone's experience been?

chase12 · 08/06/2022 12:08

@Rm1983 Being patient would be the best word to describe the process so far. However I would imagine that they will keep recruiting as the process seems to be behind.

RogelM · 16/06/2022 13:02

@chase12 have you heard anything more at all?

chase12 · 16/06/2022 13:38

@RogelM Hi last Thursday, I managed to work out how I could raise a concern that the application had been sitting awaiting a Case Manager after spending weeks sitting for a case advisor to complete their part of the process and the time scales that were quoted in the email received after applying and although I understood they currently seemed to be a back log ,it was not except able that these children are awaiting well over the time scale as we are dealing with disabilities and pointed out that as a new service it would only be a matter of time before we start seeing negative reviews in the Social media. The lady had asked me to type it out in the chat my concern and she would forward this to a manager who would contact me within 2 working days. Although I did not receive a call from a Manager, I did receive a call from a Case Manager who had asked me to upload a document and she would finish processing in the next couple of days and I would receive a back dated amount. I am currently holding off until later on to see if it has been completed, so fingers cross as the day I was contacted I was extremely tired as I had just spent the night in hospital again without any sleep hoping I took the right information in as the call was very short! Keep you posted .

RogelM · 16/06/2022 14:10

@chase12 good luck hopefully you get it all backdated. I’m not long off the phone to case manager and I’ve just been told another 3-4 weeks at least for a decision. I’ve really had enough of chasing it up I just don’t understand why everyone else seems to be getting a decision and we aren’t.

chase12 · 16/06/2022 14:52

@RogelM I would only suggest sending a complaint/concern regarding the length of time like I did it might help speed it up for you 😉

chase12 · 16/06/2022 14:54

@RogelM Did the Case Manager give you a reason as to why it would take this long?

Polly421 · 16/06/2022 16:18

@RogelM thats shocking they said you’ll be another 3/4 weeks. Once mines went to case manager it was quite quick after I sent an additional document they asked for. Maybe there going to be contacting people you’ve put down on form to help support you’ve claim. Fingers crossed for you and @chase12 that your not waiting much longer. My kids health visitor on Monday was saying apart from the wait times the now she’s heard nothing but good things about people receiving their right award, they seem fairer when reviewing the forms.

RogelM · 16/06/2022 16:31

@chase12 they basically said it’s because of all the cases coming over from dla being transferred to social security scotland it’s holding everything up. They did say that it looked like I had more than enough information but they hope to get it finalised within the next 3-4 weeks. The reason they phoned me though is because I requested in the online webchat for the case manager to phone me so it wasn’t as if they were phoning asking for extra information etc. Basically phoned to tell me I’ll just need to wait 🥴 but it’s so annoying because everyone else seems to be getting their decisions.

Polly421 · 16/06/2022 16:43

@RogelM so looks likely a case manager has been assigned your claim but hasn’t started work on it as I do believe there assigned several cases at a time and work through them one after another. Like @chase12 once the case manager called me to send in another document he said it would be a few days to make decision. So I think once case manager properly starts working on your case it will be fairly quick from there.

RogelM · 16/06/2022 17:16

@Polly421 im just surprised they’ve said another 3-4 weeks as I was told it went to the case manager on 3rd May so over 6 weeks ago. God knows I’m at the point where I don’t want to chase it up anymore I feel like I’m almost jinxing myself.
