@Gemconks b&m / home bargains have loads of fidget toys / bubble popping discs / squidgy toys / spiky flashing balls etc, as do Amazon. I also got ds some pop tubes from Amazon and he loves them. He’s got cogs & pipes for the bath which is great as he plays for ages and I can sit on the bathroom floor and have a rest.

I’ve found the shops online specifically for sensory related items cost a fortune in comparison.

I’ve had ds weighted blankets off Amazon always been good quality, they do sensory lights too.

Type in sensory toys on Amazon loads of stuff comes up.

Yes I agree the specific online stores for this stuff is quite expensive my son loves his weighted blanket though really helps at night time although he's still not in 'toys' as such

@Alk19 my ds is nearly 8 now but when he was younger he used to put the sensory toys in his mouth didn’t have a clue what to do with them, would just throw them, he has a sensory box now filled with all sorts and he sits on his bed and has a fiddle with it all, he takes some bits in his taxi to school and he always has some kind of toy in his hand, so your ds might grow to like them x

Hey ladies! I've been following the thread for a while now, so much useful information here! I applied on 1/08 (put in the system 11/08) for my 9 year old daughter. We began the process of ASD assessment in May (with school finally on board). My daughter is a master masker! The school is only aware of her issues because I told them all about them. She's always been super anxious, sensory sensitive, gets overwhelmed easily and has frequent meltdowns, has ocd traits, she pulls her hair out when anxious and twiddles a lot with things. I noticed that her stims have been more visible in the past year or so. We've been through CAHMS twice with her anxiety, once when she was 3 (I was told it's probably my fault as I must have been anxious during pregnancy) and when she was 6 (again fobbed off, told there's nothing there and only offered play therapy with a lady who was only starting her degree in play therapy at school). Discharged yet again. since then covid hit and all went pear shaped. Thankfully my little one was having sessions with a local charity at the time and we had amazing supportf rom one of the ladies there. Fast forward to now, I finally feel like I'm not losing my mind and that I have someone who listens.
Anyway, I didn't put much evidence into the claim as we've not had reports or anything from CAMHS or STEP2. I got support from the school though and some covering letters too, so fingers crossed we will be entitled to some help.
Sorry for the long waffle, but I don;'t have anyone to talk to about it

@gemconks in all honesty I find the website useful for indication on what sensory toys are but if it wasn't for familyfund I'm not sure I would have got them as there may be cheaper I would look individually for things and build your room gradually but it make give you and ideas on what to look for again familyfund may help aswell xx

Forgot to add, I've been on the phone to DLA yesterday to give them some information and the lovely lady said that I should hear from them by the end of the month.
I just wish there was more accessible information and support for mums like us, that we didn't have to feel like we're fighting everyone, that we didn't have to shout this loud.
I knew from the start that my little girl was special, but when I tried to tell someone about it, they just didn't listen.

Hi

I finally got through to them today and my daughter has been awarded lrm and hrc I’m so relieved that I finally know. The decision was made yesterday so mine took 9 weeks and 3 days.

Do I need to notify child tax credits etc or will they automatically be informed? X

@Masonj377 congrats that it’s finally sorted, can I please ask when your forms were sent and logged on their end please? X

@Masonj377 thank you, they received my form 15th July so hoping it won’t be much longer, possibly next week as it’s at the top of list to go to decision makers 🤞🏼 Lady on phone said they was receiving nearly a 1000 forms a day since February 😳 xx
