This is the continuation of the thread for parents and carers of autistic children in Early Years and KS1. Most of us are parents of children in Reception or Year 1, but all welcome!

Does anyone have an A3 sized template for a fortnightly planner they could share please?

Just bought an A3 laminator to do DS a visual agenda for all the holiday plans for the two weeks, now need a template!

LightTripper · 08/12/2019 00:13

My Early Bird course tutor said she would send me one MapLand, I'll ping it on if I get it!

Harley I'm just kind of speechless. I think your response is totally right but just so sorry you are forced into this position. It's horrible.

Burpee sounds like the school is hopefully starting to get on top of the issue, albeit a bit late. Your son sounds lovely.

We are away visiting rellies and DD has been so hyper today!! I think it's new surroundings combined with end of term and all the Christmas excitement. One more week of school... Looking forward to the end of term!

Hope everyone else is doing well xx

I don't understand if they honestly believe it was due to lack of attendance then why haven't they fined or prosecuted us?

openupmyeagereyes · 09/12/2019 07:27

Ugh. Rough night here. I had two 2-2 1/2 hour stretches of sleep and in between was up with a whingy ds. He was sick again around midnight but I think that’s just a lack of food as he’s had one piece of toast in two days. His temperature is down but he’s super whingy so I’m in for a lovely day!

We finally have a Christmas tree up. Dh had to go and buy it by himself in the end as ds didn’t feel up to going. It’s a little on the large side but looks pretty.

I need to get the house straight today and also start writing cards. I’ve slacked off the last couple of days so need to play catch up.

I hope this week goes well for everyone with all the impending school Christmas activities.

openupmyeagereyes · 09/12/2019 07:43

Oh, and although Ds doesn’t mind the decorations he will not let us listen to Christmas music or watch Christmas films. He resists watching most new films but occasionally will end up watching something new and it becomes his new favourite (currently Lego Movie 2). I will see if I can get him to watch the Snowman later, he’s seen it before and enjoyed it.

LittleSwede · 09/12/2019 11:16

Hope your DS feels better soon open Brew for you. It was lucky the play was last week so he didn't miss it.

We have Conjunctivitis, nits, norovirus and nasty cough viruses doing the rounds at DD's school, let's see how many are in for the Nativity play on Wednesday and Thursday!

Hope your DD enjoyed visiting relatives this weekend light and that she enjoys her last week.

LittleSwede · 09/12/2019 11:19

DD went in rather reluctantly this morning, we were 10 minutes late but at least I got her in. Her teacher hinted at me on Friday that if DD needed to I could consider keeping DD home for a day or collect her at lunchtime. Just to get through the last two weeks.

openupmyeagereyes · 09/12/2019 12:01

Little that’s thoughtful of the teacher, I expect she will be tired after the nativity shows.

Ds has been sick again this morning. That means he can’t go back to school until at least Thursday now 😱

His temperature is still down so I do hope he’s on the mend. I’m concerned about a third day of not eating.

LittleSwede · 09/12/2019 12:08

Oh no open! Does he like milkshakes/flavoured milk or smoothies? Just to add a bit of calories without having to physically eat.

openupmyeagereyes · 09/12/2019 15:12

Unfortunately not Little

livpotter · 09/12/2019 16:02

Sorry your ds isn't feeling well open. Hope he is better soon.

I'm glad you are complaining about the school Harley. I hope you find somewhere good to move him to.

Hope everyone else is ok?

We're preparing for Christmas here. Got the tree up yesterday and ds was really excited about it and even put the fairy on the top.

I'm going to do a social story about the day and found this https://littlepuddins.ie/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Christmas-Social-Story-1.pdf in case anyone else is interested.

Ds lasted 10mins at the school theatre trip before he told dh he wanted to go home. To be honest I reckon that was pretty good. He did enjoy it apparently but I think it was too overwhelming for more than that!

openupmyeagereyes · 09/12/2019 16:17

liv that is totally what ds would do. At least he gave it a go.

He’s currently asleep on the sofa. I’m going to have to wake him, I do not want a repeat of last night.

dimples76 · 09/12/2019 18:09

We had a lovely Christmassy today yesterday; decorating the tree, making mince pies and watching Stick Man by the fire. This morning DS said that he was feeling too wobbly to go to school - he then acknowledged that he just wanted to stay at home with me.

DS's Christmas show is on Wednesday and Thursday. I'm dreading it - he was fine last year and didn't look too anxious although he only joined in with singing and actions about 1/4 of the time. I just find that I get v tense willing him through it.

Open hope DS is better soon. Harley hope that your complaint is dealt with properly.

Liv both times that I have taken DS to the theatre we have left within two minutes. My Mum has bought us panto tickets again this year but I'm not convinced that it's worth trying

openupmyeagereyes · 09/12/2019 18:25

dimples that sounds like a lovely day. Did you let him stay at home today?

We took ds to the theatre when he was about 2 1/2. We had to leave within the first couple of minutes too.

Best wishes for all the Christmas shows this week. I find it’s such a conflicting emotion. Wanting to have that moment yourself to watch them and enjoy it like millions of other parents do but also not wanting your child to be stressed out by it all because in the scheme of things it’s not that important.

dimples76 · 09/12/2019 20:36

No I didn't Open - I would have been sorely tempted but had to go to work.

MapLand · 09/12/2019 22:59

My DS is ok in the theatre , but I remember so clearly that when he was in the womb he went nuts when I went to the cinema once - he was jumping and kicking in my belly frantically , in hindsight think the noise must have overwhelmed him.

MapLand · 09/12/2019 23:00

Sounds lovely dat dimples

Open hope you both get decent sleep tonight

MapLand · 09/12/2019 23:00

Day not dat

openupmyeagereyes · 09/12/2019 23:09

Map I’m already having a crap night. Ds has been awake crying umpteen times and currently downstairs on the iPad. I have told him we are having a serious conversation about this tomorrow. Yes he is poorly and he’s still not eating but this is ridiculous.

Tomorrow there will be numerous ‘think throughs’ about the fact that the iPad does not get used when it’s time to sleep and that he needs to stay in his bed.

I’m so bloody tired.

dimples76 · 09/12/2019 23:34

Hope that DS has settled now Open

livpotter · 10/12/2019 06:22

Glad ds isn't the only one dimples! That's so sweet that he just wanted to be at home with you.

Mapland when I was pregnant with ds I was taken to see an opera and he went completely beserk in my tummy too. Definitely the music.

I'm sorry you had such a rubbish night open. Hope you've managed to get a bit of sleep and that ds is feeling a bit better today. It's so easy to let things slip a bit when they are ill!

Ds has a new 1:1 starting today. The school decided the two he had recently really weren't working (I agreed). This one will be able to do 4 days and seemed to instantly get on with ds, so got my fingers crossed it will work out!

openupmyeagereyes · 10/12/2019 08:30

He had half an hour on the iPad and then went back to bed and was asleep very quickly. He woke again a number of times but dh dealt with some of them.

He woke for the day at 5ish and then around 6 had a loud meltdown about various things. Our poor neighbour.

Thankfully he has eaten some toast and peanut butter this morning. Right up to that he was saying eating was scary and that he didn’t want to eat any more and I was starting to get quite worried. Hopefully he’ll eat a bit more during the day and start to feel better.

I think I may be coming down with whatever he had as I’ve a headache and I’m a bit achey. Hopefully not, we’ll see.

liv I hope the new 1:1 works out well today. 4 consistent days sounds good. Have they experience with autistic children?

MapLand · 10/12/2019 13:59

Open sorry you had another bad night, you must be worn a bit thin.

DS is getting anxious about his Christmas concert. Latest fear is that it will suddenly snow that day and the bus will be snowed in on the way to school and stop him getting there in time. Which I think is also wishful thinking because he'd rather not do it! But I think he'll be able to do it with support and will get a buzz from it.

openupmyeagereyes · 10/12/2019 15:02

Map it has been a day of parenting fails. He has been so whingy and when he’s set on something he goes on and on and on. I am feeling poorly and on so little sleep the last few nights have not coped with it well so I have been whingy and grumpy back Sad

I’m sorry your ds is stressed about the concert. Is snow at all likely where you are? Can you show him the weather forecast on your phone?

LittleSwede · 10/12/2019 18:40

Sounds like a tough night and day open Flowers hope you manage to get some sleep tonight and that you and your DS feel better soon. Nothing worse than caring fur a poorly child when you are poorly yourself!

Hope the new 1:1s are ok Liv and that your DS had a good day.

Sorry your DS is stressed about the concerns mapland hopefully he can enjoy it once he is on stage.
