Nothing much to report in the house of Ben tonight which is great Grin ....no hospitalisations, no problems in school and DH got a met in his yearly appraisal which he was panicking about given my poor health and DS's assessments and dx having caused so much upheaval this year.

DH out for most of the weekend so DS and I can chill out and do nothing, maybe order a takeaway or do a drive through McDs tomorrow - sounds pretty good to me!

Finally asked my old university friend whether her DS1 had a dx having noticed his obsessions with trains, pylons and wires for years. He is due to get a dx next week! Him and DS already think that they are best friends even though they haven't ever met Grin.

No way could I homeschool. 1 page of homework at the weekend is enough!

One sister came out of hsopital, the other went into hospital & then off to respite (halleleuhuah!).

All day at yet another multi-disciplinary assessment on Wednesday. (see my thread on can ASD have friends for details).

DS went on a school trip today & bumped into his old class from the school where he was abused and then permanently excluded. His TA was over the moon cos he gave them the "Queen Mother wave", then studiosly ignored the group that shouted abuse at him as he concentrated on his craft task. I'm chuffed to bits with him as his life was made hell on earth there. (I would have expected him to runaway screaming as soon as he caught sight of the uniform tbh!).

Yup - I loved the magic faraway tree as a kidlet.

Homeschooling and staying sane? - a challenge without access to a good dollop of "me time" at regular intervals, methinks after my previous attempts.

DS gets to indulge his latest obsession tomorrow - we are going a Viking/Saxon battle reenactment display - hoping the weather dries up!

Oooooooh What about Malory Towers

bochead · 20/04/2012 18:20

Malory Towers and the joys of reading under the covers after Mum had said lights out

SallyBear · 20/04/2012 18:20

Nope Malory Towers was a complete lie I discovered, after starting Boarding School at the age of 11.

Evening folks

Ok week here. Finally got our amends for ds's proposed statement in on Tuesday after three days and verrry late nights of practically re-writing it.

Ds2 was 8 on Wednesday and two friends over to play. Ds1 didn't cope with that at all well and was in a bit of a state until they got the DSi's out to play ds2's new Star Wars game and was then in his element. Then dh took all 5 children (including 3 year old dd) to the park and apparently ds1 went head to head with ds2's best friend (who I am fairly sure has undxd AS) in trying to control everyone. Poor dh was grey when they got back. Grin

Tis haircut day for my crew tomorrow as well. Neither boy has been able to see out of their hair for weeks now, but there's only one lady who ds1 is happy to have cut his hair and we haven't been able to book with her.

Other than that, just a few wobbles Grin from me about having to get into a swimsuit when we go to Legoland (for the waterplay area in the hotel). Ended up with three different styles of swimsuit and was extremely unhappy about the way I looked in all of them. Am actually dreading going now, but I think the dcs are looking forward to the waterplay more than the actual themepark, so there's no escaping it. Hmm

Bearing in mind the swimsuit terror - I am not going to be indulging in Wine, baileys or any other goodies this evening. Wink

Absolutely Boc. That's is so brilliant that he didn't let the little SH1Ts spoil his day. Just goes to show how this new school has boosted his self esteem and confidence!

My DS1 loves Ancient history, and I am seriously thinking of contacting the local archaeological society about getting him involved in digging over the summer hols. He would be very excited by the thought of some Viking/Saxon history stuff!

Have never read Mallory Towers. Ds1 loved the Famous Five a couple of years back though and all three of mine love the Faraway Tree and Wishing Chair stories.

My mum banned me from reading Naughty Amelia Jane books after I cut my sisters' fringe. Twas a huge triangle right out of the back and so high up that she had to have most of her lovely long tresses chopped off as a result! Grin Mind you, she did similar with the living room curtains - also courtesy of a Naughty Amelia Jane plotline - bad influence that Enid Blyton woman! Grin

moosemama · 20/04/2012 18:32

Sally, have you see the Young Archaeologist club stuff:

Young Archaeologist Club UK

Young Archaeologist Magazine

You can use Tesco clubcard vouchers to pay for membership as well.

moosemama · 20/04/2012 18:33

Sally, I think there are regional YAC clubs as well, irrc.

coff33pot · 20/04/2012 18:37

oooh the faraway tree! Grin I loved that book

Hope your DS enjoyes the battles Bochead. I would love to take DS to see one but I just know he will act it out for months after and we only just phased out pirates of the carribean due to a film clip and the school were a bit fed up with him trying to do the swing over that Sparrow does accross the room from the aparatus Grin Those displays are great though!

Homeschooling and less me time is a hard one. We did it for a few weeks which went well but if it was long term then I would have seriously had to organise a rota between both me and DH in order to get a break. The good part though is it doesnt have to be as structured as school and so you have the flexibility to work around things and plan your own school rota. :)

Yes I am shitting myselfskitterish in letting him out. Where we live isnt too bad as we have two culdesacs either end of our road and its all in a bit of a horseshoeish shape so cars (taxis grrrr) have to slow it down to turn. The boy lives down the end of the road and his parents know DS from nursery and I have informed them of his dx so they are more understanding.

Trouble is he needs to learn social skills and face pitfalls (and me with shouting parents I suspect) And he is at the age he is noticing his differences and begging to be let out so I have used his urge to go out in laying down the rules. I hope I am doing the right thing....if not back to plan b. This is the first time he has been out for a year since he ran into a strangers house and then he was only out 2 days in a row lol. I guess I am testing his awareness again to see where the faults now lie that i can help him on.

coff33pot · 20/04/2012 18:38

Mallory Towers was great also the St Clare books that came before Grin

Ben10NeverAgain · 20/04/2012 18:39

Love mallory towers. Envy that you actually went to boarding school. I always wanted a tuck box Grin
