How is everyone?

This week has been hectic, I feel like I am going to meet myself coming back IYSWIM, Grin

But ds had first visit to 'big school' left there for 45 mins with portage teacher. and did brill!

Also music sessions are going really well.

and my best friend is moving 2 mins walk away from me, (rather than 25 mins drive, hurrah!!!! )

I am on the Wine althou it is white not red.

and I have decided to loose a stone by the time ds goes to school. (yeah I know thats a really wimpy target, but there are a lot of stones to loose Blush and I want something that feels do-able and not another burden.)

Ben10 - I have those same kind of pajamas - the big comfy ones! They're wearing out though, and I'm loathe to give them up - don't really want to break in new ones!

Becaroooo · 13/05/2011 20:07

Hello all :)

So, ds1 went to his friends house for tea yesterday....and enjoyed it! Smile
His friend is coming here next week.

Ds1 has got "alpha and omega" on dvd atm and we are currently having to watch it 2/3 times a day Sad

He seems to go through phases....watches/plays with things again and again again and then just...stops. Dont know why. He doesnt cope well with the cinema so we get dvds when they come out.

I cannot imagine ds1 EVER going on camps/trips with school etc.....his anxiety levels are pretty high most of the time atm Sad

Having a movie night with dh tonight...going to rent a movie and get some popcorn on Smile

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 13/05/2011 20:10

Sorry, smug, keep up with alternating the calpol and ibuprofen. You're in for a sleepless night. Keep checking on him, warm to tepid water sponge down and no quilt, just a sheet.

smugtandemfeeder · 13/05/2011 20:10

Sign ahh I just saw the link saying Swindon. I hope you get one soon. I am planning to go there every day until DS is 18. Just to lie on the water bed in the white sensory room watching the bubble tube and bubble wall changing colour. Apparently they have had tired mums fall asleep in there!

Triggles I dont know what has caused it. DD is teething and was very hot but I just assumed it was teething related. Some sort of virus. He was swollen up a bit last night and red in the face so we gave him piriton. We have Epi pens at the ready as he had anaphylactic shock from a virus a year ago and had to go to A&E in an ambulance. They tested him for allergies but put it down to a random virus. Random viruses with fever and puffiness now worry me!

Triggles · 13/05/2011 20:11

becaroooo - DS2 doesn't cope well at the cinema either. But we're slowly working on it. Tomorrow's trip we will be armed with water (in his special cup), snack (in my handbag LOL), ear defenders, and he'll sit on a booster seat so that he doesn't feel "engulfed" by the cinema seat. He only lasted 20 minutes last time. He loves Toy Story 3 though, so I'm hoping he will last longer. (fingers crossed) I figure if we last longer than 2 minutes, we're making progress. And it's only £1 each as it's the "junior movie" so not a huge investment. Otherwise we wouldn't go at all.

But a camp or trips with school? No way! The kid wears a high-vis vest on the playground at school so if he gets away from his 1:1, they can spot him quickly and he doesn't escape the grounds. (it was our idea - they have to let him play, but he's fast he was blending in due to the uniforms)

smugtandemfeeder · 13/05/2011 20:12

Thanks EllenJane I will go and remove vastly heavy duvet and replace with something more sensible! He sounds like he has gone back to sleep amazingly so feel less stressed now.

Ben10isthespawnofthedevil · 13/05/2011 20:13

StarlightMcKenzie I love that comment! It tickled me something chronic!

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 13/05/2011 20:17

Hi Becaroooo. When DS went away with his SS they took 13 DC, all 4 and 5, some with SLD and apparently, after 4 days they had seen enough poo to last a lifetime! Grin But because they were all such fab people, and really used to the DC, most full time, 5 days a week in reception year, I didn't worry. (so much) It's when the staff are inexperienced with SEN or with my DS that it's more of a hurdle. You'll get there, he'll get there, eventually. (Him before you probably)

Triggles · 13/05/2011 20:18

smug I second EllenJane's advice about cool clothing/covers and tepid water. Sponge it on the pulse points (back of neck, forehead, backs of knees, underarms, inside of elbows) especially - for some reason that works well - we had to do that with DD as she has a medical condition that caused her to spike some ferocious fevers when she was young! Make sure you give him fluids - if he'll cooperate - so he doesn't dehydrate. If he won't sit and drink, try to get him to take a swallow every 5 minutes - you'd be amazed at how much it will add up to - and after 3-4 swallows, he'll most likely be more cooperative and drink more (much like DS2 - just to get us to quit pushing the straw in his face LOL).

auntevil · 13/05/2011 20:25

Smug - there was a 'viral ' infection that did the rounds in our area a few months back that literally just caused a high temperature, no other symptoms. A few days they were fine and then a temperature again. It was a right royal pain.

lovely to see you today auntevil, I can vouch for the seething over ot, had to join in myself! Ot time here is like hens teeth.

Triggles · 13/05/2011 20:29

hmmmm... mental note.... theninjagooseisonamission doesn't like coffee and steers clear of it... Grin

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 13/05/2011 20:31

Small children often have high temps, they're not good at regulating their body temp, but 40 is quite high. How are you measuring it, ear, armpit or mouth? It usually reads higher orally. You need to get it down to avoid the risk of a febrile convulsion.

Triggles · 13/05/2011 20:31

oh no... indulged in too much chocolate.... let's think belgian hazelnut chocolate spread... and a spoon..... Blush.... bleaurgh.....

I never thought the words "too" "much" and "chocolate" could EVER be used together.......

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 13/05/2011 20:32

So what sort of 'hot beverage' were you and auntevil indulging in, ninja? Hmm

StarlightMcKenzie · 13/05/2011 20:33

I reckon a spoon is the only way tbh!

Galena · 13/05/2011 20:33

Those of you familiar with Hop, Skip and Jump at Seven Springs, may I ask you a question or two?

DD is just 2, not walking yet, has no diagnosis so far although the physio has just referred her to the community paed with possible mild Cerebral Palsy. We go to 2 sessions per week at Battledown Children's Centre, one of which has physio input weekly. Would we be able to use the HSJ centre or do we need to wait until she has a diagnosis? If we can, during the week, does it tend to be busy during school hours?

Thanks.

auntevil · 13/05/2011 20:35

Don't think it was the idea of coffee, per se, Triggles, just the chinook, brass band, klaxons and workmen noise that Ninja was probably concerned about. I think there's enough noise with her building works at home for her to go out looking for more racket! Grin

Triggles · 13/05/2011 20:36

oh my! NinjaGoose and auntevil meeting up as well! This SNs board is just a web in intrigue!! Grin

smugtandemfeeder · 13/05/2011 20:37

I borrowed one of those in ear digital things from my next door neighbour. I took three readings and they all went red and ranged from 39.5 to 40.1 so its def high.

He is terrified of everything so its hard to take his temperature again without waking him up terrified bless him. Will check just before I go to bed which wont be long.

Have given up the chocolate ban tonight. Whole 230g bar of Dairy Milk now consumed in one go. Embarrasing! Must resume chocolate ban.

Triggles · 13/05/2011 20:37

LOL auntevil. Well, I thought we'd have less background noise (due to the children) if we met in town for coffee.... wrong!! LOL

StarlightMcKenzie · 13/05/2011 20:37

Oh no, I missed Gambados! Was looking forward to it as well......

auntevil · 13/05/2011 20:39

Triggles, i think that if you put 'too, much and chocolate' into a sentence and grammar check it, it does question your choice of words and offer some suggestions, such as 'much too often, chocolate isn't provided by the NHS' Grin

Triggles · 13/05/2011 20:41

I can't believe we've got another week off school coming up in 2 weeks... still recuperating from the last one!! Although I will admit I prefer having him home, but he really does love school. I am not home-educating material, I'm really not!

nenevomito · 13/05/2011 20:42

evening all I've just cracked open DHs last bottle of beer. He said the words "is there anything I can do to help" and then handed over his beer when demanded. Bless him.

DS watches things over and over again, but when it gets to a scary bit he screams and runs out of the room and we have to forward wind it. We're talking U films here with the mildest of mild peril. He won't watch toy story 3 at all as its too scary for him.

DD gets horrible temps - we strip her down to her vest and dose her up with calpol and ibuprofen.

This week has been a real roller coaster. the meeting at school went brilliantly and they're giving DS loads of help, that was a high, followed by the low of getting the referral letter back to say the waiting list is currently 10 months for assessment. Hey ho. I'm getting the hang of the roller coaster, just don't stand below as I may blow!!
