6 stone to lose. Help!

Hi everyone,
Just looking for encouragement and support. Starting a new group tomorrow. 10 years ago I had a successful stint and lost 3 stone in 6 months. Had lots of unsuccessful goes since then but I really have to make it work this time. Got foot surgery coming up so it's a medical requirement as much as for confidence and general health.
I would just love to "chew the fat" ...😂 Ha ha, not literally!!!... with other new starters.

Well, I actually lost a pound! I am truly astounded. Then the leader made us have Forced Fun by playing a game that involved moving to the left when she said left, and right when she said right. Not the most challenging game, but I'm glad I went, as it will halt the slow descent into a mince pie stupor. Xmas Grin

Wilma55 · 16/12/2021 14:51

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants have you updated your app? Click on More (...) bottom right on my app, then the videos podcasts etc are there. I couldn't get them till I updated. Hope that helps.

Wilma55 · 16/12/2021 14:52

Ps @SpongeBobJudgeyPants Well done on the loss. I HATE enforced fun!!!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/12/2021 14:55

Thanks @Wilma55. It logged me out, when I got back in again (why does it log me out 15 x as often as any other app?! ) I got to it. I hate enforced fun. I made up needing the loo to avoid the last 5 mins of the game, and then I suffered for it as I was the only one who didn't get a prize! But I would have needed to sell my soul to the devil, so... Xmas Grin

LightandAiry · 16/12/2021 18:32

Well done "Susana85* great result! Another negative LFT for me today 🤞

SpongeBob well done on your loss I'll be happy with 1lb Saturday morning. I would buy mini mince pies 5.5 syns each in ALDI. Our consultant spoke about syns in mince pies a full size one 11 syns. Don't like the sound of the enforced fun, what were the prizes?

I was due to eat out this evening but we cancelled; one friend had a positive LFT and my Ds probably has Covid we will know in a day or so. I've saved plenty of syns and hope to be rewarded on the scales this week.

LightandAiry · 16/12/2021 18:34

The lo-dough products keep popping up on Mumsnet and Facebook. Has anybody tried their cake mixes etc?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/12/2021 18:42

Thanks @LightandAiry. I haven't actually tried any of the lo dough, but the pizza bases seem better value than the cake mix. I don't know how it synz up, but a SW banana cake would be more my thing than spending lots on a cake mix. I might for a special occasion though. Someone needs to test it out!

LeftyLou · 16/12/2021 19:05

That is an amazing first week @Susana85 Smile

Great loss @SpongeBobJudgeyPants

For those who have done WW before, which do you prefer?

I have just bought some of the lo dough pizza bases and brownie mix so will report back. I also have some skinny brownie mix too which i think comes to about 5 syns per portion.

Another 1 off for me this week too. 9.5 in one month really happy about that.

17/11 13 stone 3 BMI 35
24/11 12 stone 12 BMI 34.2
01/12 12 stone 9.5 BMI 33.5
08/12 12 stone 8.5 BMI 33.3
15/12 12 stone 7.5 BMI 33.2

If I keep this up I could be under 12 stone by my birthday. Is a nice thought.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/12/2021 20:01

Thanks. I actually got to goal with WW a few years ago, and am a Fat Gold member. At the time, I think WW was more flexible, now I reckon there probably isn't much in it. Even 20 yrs ago, WW was about a pound a week more than SW to attend. I think now there probably isn't much in it, plan wise? I do remember Points being a bit more flexible than Syns, but don't know its still the case. Where did you get the Skinny brownies from @LeftyLou?

LightandAiry · 16/12/2021 21:01

I have done Weight Watchers before, I liked being allocated more points for exercise but they changed that. It worked well for me but was given 12 weeks free by GP couple of years ago, and didn't enjoy it. Similar principles of free food etc.

Wilma55 · 16/12/2021 21:10

I've done WW on and off since about 1990, my first goal weight was 9 stone! I was/am a Gold member. I had a short time with SW about 10 years ago because meetings were near work and convenient but I didn't really get on with it. The last couple of years I was paying for WW and doing zoom meetings but my lovely coach was made redundant and the best meeting for me closed. When I hit my yet another heaviest ever weight I joined a very local SW meeting and it just really clicked this time. The app is much better than last time around and I was already using the PON books. I don't fancy the personal points plan WW has now though lots of people seem to love it.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 17/12/2021 10:11

What's the PON books please?

LeftyLou · 17/12/2021 10:26

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants

What's the PON books please?
Pinch of Nom

They have some really good recipes and a few books out. Smile

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 17/12/2021 10:27

Ooh, got you. Are they syned, or do you have to work it out yourself? Lordy, how I hates the word syns...Xmas Hmm

Wilma55 · 17/12/2021 12:35

Re PON the syns used to be on their website but SW made them stop. Usually there are only a couple of ingredients you need to syn. Often cheese which can be a hexa.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 17/12/2021 15:26

Ah, thanks.

LightandAiry · 18/12/2021 08:49

I have arrived home from group, but due to being very busy, left before a game was about to start, but did join in with a pantomime story with half the room shouted "oh no she didn't" and the other half had to say "oh yes she did."

Then we had to move chairs for another game. I would have joined in but today I am very busy with helping my Mum (that's my excuse anyway!).

I am delighted that I have lost 1lb Smile. Went off the boil yesterday but back on to it today. Lost 12lb all together. Even though it's Christmas week I'd like to lose 2lb next week, if I can keep off the mince pies until after Boxing Day's weigh in!

I've seen that PON book the recipes look good including the dirty macaroni posted earlier. I have just invested in the Fakeaways book and thinking of trying one of those recipes this evening, probably the Tofu one.

How are you all doing?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 18/12/2021 12:07

@LightandAiry that game sounds better than our 'left and right'! Maybe they think we aren't bright enough for your version! Grin Good result. I've just had a mince pie, but have carefully bought a 4 pack so there's just 1 each for us, as DD is home for a couple of days today. I walked round Asda eying up loads of stuff though....nice bread, which I miss, and some chocolate chip stick thing in the bread counter, which would have been nigh on impossible to syn. Apart from the mince pie, I have resisted though. Have bought a packet of After Eights with orange, but they have been put with the other Contraband for Crimbo.

Wilma55 · 18/12/2021 14:35

I had fish and chips last night -from the chippie! We had a large cod and chips between us. I really enjoyed it and although I had about a third (or less?) felt stuffed - must have been the mushy peas! Followed by a Haagen Daz mini tub of ice cream. It was a lovely treat and sometimes you need a treat! Well done @LightandAiry. The Saturday group are having a tasting party today but I've been on Tuesday the last two days weeks so hopefully will escape too much fun. 🎅 🧑‍🎄 🤶

LightandAiry · 21/12/2021 06:17

Morning how are you all?

I am still negative on LFT and hope I have avoided Covid it's been 8 days 🤞

Went off the boil again yesterday out for brunch, (which involved fried bread - oops) but hope to sts or lose minimally at group on Boxing Day). No Christmas plans now due to Covid; ds out of isolation on 27th December Sad

I have to sign on and work for a few hours today; planning on risotto for dinner. I saw a SW recipe for one with sweet potato which sounds like comfort food. My go to would have been lashings of cheese but I don't want to start the new year having gained back some of the loss!

Wilma55 · 21/12/2021 10:56

Hope you've escaped covid @LightandAiry. Just got back from WI and am gobsmacked to have lost a pound after fish and chips Friday, steak and chips Saturday, Christmas lunch out Sunday with rather a lit of red wine. Group today was talking about whether to a)just eat/drink what you like b) stick totally to plan or c) do your best. The c) won! Next week the new booklets are out.

How is everyone planning to deal with Christmas?

Asinglepringle · 21/12/2021 12:38

Hi all. Just checking in really. Fallen by the wayside at the moment, so I'll keep my head down until I get back on track. Haven't weighed for a while but just need to get passed Christmas- same for us all!!

LightandAiry · 21/12/2021 12:57

Well done Wilma I would again be delighted with 1lb.

Festivities are postponed this year. Family unable to come round on Christmas Day but all being well we've postponed Christmas lunch to 28th December. I remain hopeful the rest of us will escape Covid as negative LFT again today.

I think c) for me as well. Not going mad but I think a mince pie here and there. Also I may do a park run Christmas Day now we can please ourselves (or a park walk in my case!). Perhaps I'll make a Slimming World curry!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 22/12/2021 07:25

Hi all. Well done on the loss @Wilma55. @Asinglepringle I feel a bit the same. Haven't gone completely mad, but have been having more bread than I should, and the odd chocolate marshmallow etc. Not good, but Crimbo seems to be a bit stressful, and there is so much food around. Not in our house, but just out there! @LightandAiry Well done for keeping up the excercise, that has fallen by the wayside here with being ill. Meeting a friend by a lake today. If I got my posterior shifted and got sorted in time, I could do a lap of the lap before I met her! I should go swimming, but I had my hair done yesterday, and it will ruin at least the bottom of my hair. Even if I put my hair up, it still gets wets around the nape of my neck. I am partly making excuses, because I could go on my excercise bike, particularly now the dining room bit of the house has been warmed up! If I put a podcast on, I'm good to go!

LightandAiry · 22/12/2021 15:38

That's the intention anyway SpongeBob!!
