6 stone to lose. Help!

Hi everyone,
Just looking for encouragement and support. Starting a new group tomorrow. 10 years ago I had a successful stint and lost 3 stone in 6 months. Had lots of unsuccessful goes since then but I really have to make it work this time. Got foot surgery coming up so it's a medical requirement as much as for confidence and general health.
I would just love to "chew the fat" ...😂 Ha ha, not literally!!!... with other new starters.

Well done Wilma, a pound at this point in the year is brilliant.

You guys are putting me to shame. The Christmas wagon has well and truly run me over. Gained a pound at group this week, but it probably should have been more to be honest. Can't go next week as we are away (Boris willing), so I'm just on pause until January. I'll be gutted if I've put on too much, after doing so brilliantly in November, but I can't seem to stop saying Yes to treats

Hope you have escaped Covid Light, and that everyone who was hit is feeling better now.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 23/12/2021 04:13

I am due to weigh in today, but I could weigh in tomorrow instead, and last week, it was an absolute nightmare parking as the health centre next door were doing boosters, and had overspilled onto 'our' car park. Can't imagine it being much better today, and people were actually blocked in last time. But Crimbo eve, hopefully everyone will be either at a different class,or weigh n go, so no logistical problems. Also going to do some excercise today. Might go for a swim, sod the hair, or do some of the new videos on the app.

LightandAiry · 24/12/2021 15:32

LittleDorrit me too, I've had a falling off the wagon and struggling to fill in the food diary but not going for it really. Only 1mince pie. I am going to group on Boxing Day!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants I hope weigh in went well but if not it is getting impossible! I had my veg box delivery with my 2 boxes of organic mince pies! Gorgeous but I just had the one.

We are free of Covid now and looking forward to 2022. I hope you all have a lovely Christmas 🌲⛄ let's keep going 😊

Wilma55 · 24/12/2021 16:27

Merry Christmas everyone. We can only do our best and start again with renewed determination in 2022. Might do dry January as I think alcohol uses too many syns.
🍷 🎄 🍸

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 24/12/2021 19:29

Evening all. @LightandAiry I'm afraid a couple on mince pies showed up at weigh in! Will slow me up before the next weigh in, so not a wasted £6. @Wilma55 you too! Someone bought us a panetone that I may have to be careful with, but it will form part of the Box day buffet, so maybe some damage limitation there.

LittleDoritt · 24/12/2021 21:03

Merry Christmas everyone! Don't worry about the next few days, we are going to smash 2022 and all reach our targets! Xmas Grin

I've had all sorts of synful stuff today, but also had a buffet lunch which could have been horrendous but was actually gorgeous and very low syn - salmon, prawns, watercress, spinach, pickled onions, a couple of Pringles and a little bit of brie which I'm counting as my HEA. It was yummy and I genuinely didn't miss all the bread rolls and sausage rolls etc that I usually would have had. I did have a slice of Christmas cake the size of my fist though, so not entirely virtuous.....

Hope everyone is Covid free and feeling well. My two are streaming with cold but no positive tests in sight so we've been lucky.

Have a wonderful day tomorrow. I'll probably be awol for a few days now but I'll be back and 100% angelic for the New Year!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 25/12/2021 13:09

Hi @LittleDoritt. Happy Crimbo to you and everyone! Thanks for the permission, as I've had pannetone and a mince pie for lunch! Yours sounds much healthier. I did go for a swim the other day, but the sauna seemed to be malfunctioning, and I now have a burn on my rear end. Not encouraging me to go swimming...I only gravitated to the sauna as the pool was so damn cold!
I have cut right down on bread, had my normal ration for breakfast, and will have my cheese as HexB later, but we have bought a cheeseboard for DM coming tomorrow.

I have made the SW last minute Crimbo cake. Was a pain cutting up the squash for it, but the edge bits I have cut to tidy the cake up taste really nice. Having said that, I did add a slug of bourbon to the fruit that was not in the recipe! Gin Fortunately DM loves fruit cake, so I may well send her home with any leftovers. DH says he will use it for taking to work for his meal, and it can be frozen, but I will know its in there, and can be microwaved to plumptiousness in 2 mins.... I have previous convictions for this. Xmas Grin

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 25/12/2021 13:29

As an aside, someone I would consider my best mate, never having bought me anything edible as a present, and knowing I have been at SW since September, has bought me humungous tray of sweets. I am so disconbobulated by this, I shall attach a pic. Maybe she enjoys having a fat friend! Xmas Grin

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 25/12/2021 13:36

Here. Should we have a game of 'Guess the syns'? Xmas Grin

6 stone to lose. Help!
LightandAiry · 26/12/2021 12:20

SpongeBobJudgeyPants A nightmare before Christmas amount of syns. I've just had a piece of toblerone and 2 quality street and can't get my head round how many syns just in those!

LightandAiry · 26/12/2021 12:37

Anyway....I went to group this morning as have gained 0.5lb. could be a lot worse I'm happy with that....but this week will be more challenging. Christmas lunch tomorrow with family, as we had to postpone from yesterday due to Ds having had Covid. The rest of us at home avoided it I don't know how as he didn't always isolate in his room!

Also we are away for a night this week I can't float around avoiding everything apart from free food with all the catering being done for us. DD and I will be making a Bailey's cheesecake to take with us.

We were all given new books today. Rules are the same just revamped messaging. I am just about to take it all in.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 26/12/2021 12:49

@LightandAiry I would consider that an excellent result for a Crimbo weigh in. Very restrained of you. I worked out the syns in that stash of sweets, as best I can on the app, and it comes in around 135 syns! So 9 days worth, where you need to avoid spread on bread, tomato sauce etc as well as treats! Really not worth it IMHO. DH got me a small box of violet creams, the little flat discs ones, and there were about 12 in the box. That is more sensible IMHO. A treat but not of 3 stone extra at WI proportions! I had got my friend a really nice pressie too. I made a joke about a 3 stone weight gain potentially, and she just said, "I know you're on a diet but you can have a treat at Christmas". This is someone who is probably underweight....she doesn't get it, or is choosing not to. Anyhoo, I had a fab Crimbo day, hope everyone else did?

LightandAiry · 26/12/2021 13:09

SpongeBobJudgeyPants we made the best of it....first Christmas without my Dad. He had a dry sense of humour and was very stoical. He would have hated us to be miserable Smile

We grazed all day I had all the cheese I wanted! Ds stayed in his room and wasn't impressed at jacket spud on Christmas day, but he did come out for games. I am hoping the Indian take away is open this evening! If not I'll cook an easy curry from Fakeaways book.

My DM and dB coming tomorrow and we can video call rest of family, really looking forward to it - turkey defrosted, veg to be prepped. Best days will be this week.

Your friend can help you eat those sweeties. I think people who have never needed to lose weight may not get how challenging it can be. Most of my syns go on ketchup and pickle so I get where you're coming from. The sweets should last for a while. Can you get your DH to hide them? I did that one year when I was given a massive box of Thornton's!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 26/12/2021 14:59

I'm sorry for your loss Flowers Unfortunately, DF is many hours away in a high part of Scotland, and I live in the Midlands! DH's solution is that he can have a few at a time. The deal is that they go to his work locker, where I can't sneak a few!

DM has just arrived with turkish delight and dark chocolate. Sounds suspiciously like stuff she has had for Crimbo, and doesn't want to ruin her slim figure on. I am berated for my weight, but this somehow doesn't matter when she wants me to be the dustbin for this stuff. She's the same with DSD. Gets on about his weight, and dumping chips etc on him if we're out for a meal. She could order a meal without chips but wants a few, then can't possibly leave the rest on her plate Hmm. So that's a whole other thread! The SW Crimbo cake turned out quite well, and I had the brandy baskets with fat free Greek yoghurt, and loads of fruit, so that was pretty good. Our SW are doing an Amnesty where boxes of this stuff goes to the food bank. I have mixed feelings about this... apart from actual biscuits, loads of chocolates etc just pass the problem on maybe?

Wilma55 · 26/12/2021 15:30

Well done @LightandAiry and bonus points for weighing in on boxing day. We had lunch at friends who kindly picked us up from pub. Ate far too much and haven't recorded for yesterday or today. Start again tomorrow. Did have an hours walk (half uphill) with other half. Beef roast tonight but at home so feel more in control. There is a box or milk tray, tub of roses and tin of shortbread on the table in front of me......

LightandAiry · 27/12/2021 08:28

I am just about to peel veg, make stuffing etc, peel sprouts. All planned!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants I think it's a nice idea to pass chocolate on to food bank would be distributed to families. It's a pain having slim peeps dumping chocolate! Would your friend who gave you the sweets want it?

Wilma55 the walk uphill would help, I am not great with hills but the calories used must help. I am sending Ds.back to uni with lots of grub - one way to move it on. He is like a beanpole doesn't touch the sides!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 27/12/2021 09:59

Thanks @LightandAiry. Unfortunately thin friend is in Scotland, we are midlands, so would involve heavy postage costs, and she seem unhealthily invested in me eating them Xmas Hmm No matter, they will be out of harm's way soon! Sounds like you are doing lots of speed food! Are you entertaining? I still have DM and DSD here, so still lots of food left from buffet yesterday.

LightandAiry · 27/12/2021 10:13

Yes have DM and DB here today. Having a little break before peeling the swede! Bread sauce still to do.

I have to work Weds, Thurs and Fri but stopping over at sis in law on Thursday bearing a Bailey's cheesecake, wine, Prosecco and sausage rolls then driving to work following day. This week will be challenging. Dreading work as I have big IT problems & probably no staff in IT to help.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 27/12/2021 15:51

Baileys cheesecake you say....sounds very sinny indeed. IT problems sounds challenging. Logically, if no IT staff in you can only do so much...Easier for me to say though, as obs I don't have the stress of it. I will weigh in Thursday or Friday, and will attempt to get a swim or two in, and other excercise in a possibly futile attempt at damage limitation.

Wilma55 · 27/12/2021 16:08

Oh @LightandAiry have you heard of the singing swede? You cook it in microwave and scoop out the flesh, saves peeling and chopping which I find difficult!

LightandAiry · 27/12/2021 16:44

Exactly SpongeBobJudgeyPants if I can't do any work then it can't be helped. I'll make the tea or something but it makes me feel embarrassed like it's my fault which is daft. IT does that to me as I am not the most techy person!

Wilma55 not heard of singing swede but listening to podcast they suggested baking a butternut squash to avoid all that faffing with seeds etc and peeling. Anything to save labour!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 28/12/2021 09:22

@LightandAiry how did it go? Was the techy stuff ok?

LightandAiry · 28/12/2021 09:53

Morning SpongeBobJudgeyPants I go to work tomorrow to face the IT music. Thank you for thinking of me. We're at the mercy of these unfathomable things....

I have made myself go back to tracking today. Have plan of mince pie and Bailey's this evening then it will be impossible until Jan 1st when I start again.

LightandAiry · 28/12/2021 09:55

Anybody who is around and Mumsnetting hope all's well and we can get going properly in 2022!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 28/12/2021 10:45

Yes, morning all. I have 3 days to have a word with myself, before weigh in... Will send my DM back with some SW Crimbo cake (to make up for the chocolate and sweets she brought, knowing DH and I are struggling, and DH is waiting for a hip operation and has to get some weight off before it). Do you think I can lose all the Christmas excess in 3 days? Actually you did say when you were back at work, but my Covid/Crimbo brain has forgotten. Xmas Grin
