6 stone to lose. Help!

birdsanctuary · 26/10/2021 11:54

Hi everyone,
Just looking for encouragement and support. Starting a new group tomorrow. 10 years ago I had a successful stint and lost 3 stone in 6 months. Had lots of unsuccessful goes since then but I really have to make it work this time. Got foot surgery coming up so it's a medical requirement as much as for confidence and general health.
I would just love to "chew the fat" ...😂 Ha ha, not literally!!!... with other new starters.

Welcome @Susana85! Eating out can be a minefield on SW, but I think a tomato based seafood dish is probably your best choice at an Italian. I would choose that at our local and didn't affect my weight loss for the week. Also I'd always leave about a third as the portions were always so big! Indian choice seems to be Rogan Josh sauce and Chinese is the black bean sauce dishes. As for chippy tea, well, fish with no batter (the best bit Blush) mushy peas and no chips - really doesn't seem worth it to me! You could save your syns up for the week ( I think someone upthread said they don't recommend this anymore - but if it works why change?) then at least you've got some leeway and damage limitation!

Thanks, I'm feeling better today, had a cheeky vodka to steady the nerves and fell asleep! At least there was no temptation to eat after that Grin

Weigh in for me in the morning, although had a nice NSV when I put a pair of jeans on this morning and found I could pull them on without undoing them!

Susana85 · 12/12/2021 21:08

Thank you Lightandairy for the insight.

Good job for sticking to 7 weeks so far! How much have you lost and what is your goal?

The pasta I had was only with seafood and tomato sauce, no olives or any cheese etc. very simple dish. I still put it as 20 Syns because I don't see anything else on the list I can use. I would only imagine two Tbsp of Olive oil and that is 10 Syns. It did not seem oily to me.

I have most meals with some kind of a speed food, and portions are not big. I think my calorie intake is no more than 1300 a day since starting SW. For example, today I did not eat until 11:30am - roasted veggies (left overs) I ate quickly before heading out the door. For supper I ate salmon with green salad and rice without in-betweens for the day. Very busy day with kids. Sometimes I skip breakfast if I am busy, not sure if this is a big no-no in the Slimming world? I use to do the 8/16 fasting and it was working well for me before I got pregnant but had to stop since I needed to eat normal while pregnant.

Since joining SW the biggest change has been dropping bread. I LOVE bread, and that was one of the problems with my diet. Now I eat what I am allowed with two slices of wholemeal with either eggs or smoked salmon (light cream cheese for a few syns). I snack on carrots or fruit for my in-betweens.

I am exited to step onto that scale on Tuesday. I decided best not to weigh myself at home. I hope for a loss of at least 4 lbs.

Susana85 · 12/12/2021 21:17

Sorry @SpongeBobJudgeyPants and @Asinglepringle I did not see your messages until after I posted my response! Thank you for the welcome and all the tips Smile I did not know about saving up the Syns! I guess I can do that when I know I have a special event coming up and will struggle to keep within 15 Syns.

Asinglepringle - Emotions are so hard to stop us from going over. I hope you are starting to feel a bit better and can get some distraction from us on here or maybe friends and family to talk to?

LittleDoritt · 13/12/2021 06:01

Morning! Hoping for a good week for us all, amidst the Christmas madness.

Welcome Susana. It's so hard to estimate syns when you are eating out. It sounds like you have been quite generous in putting 20 syns for that, so you should be fine on weigh in day.

Hope the Covid is improving Sponge

Well done on your loss Light.

God, what a horrible shock Single. I'm glad the vodka took the edge off!

I'm cross with myself because I weighed before the weekend and was about 2lbs down, had a dreadful Christmas buffet weekend full of all kinds of bad food and drink, and am now back up two pounds. It seemed worth it at the time but it really wasn't. I have another five and a half stone to shift, I can't get complacent yet! Sad

LightandAiry · 13/12/2021 08:38

Morning all

How were your weekends?

Susana85 It doesn't sound as if your pasta would do any harm. With the pressures of very young children it sounds to me that you're keeping focused - brilliant. My DC are 16 and 19 I remember having a big challenge when they were little

In my 7 weeks I've lost 11lb so far. I've just signed up for another 12 weeks. I would like to lose another 2 stone 4lb and look good in summer clothes Smile

I have a ridiculously busy week some of it pleasurable some stressful. My Mum is moving to sheltered accommodation and she needs a lot of help. The house is being sold and cleared in stages. I need to check the house clearance bloke will do a LFT etc. Working a long day on Wednesday then rushing off to live music in the evening that I don't fancy - not boostered until tomorrow! Christmas meal out & friends coming over for takeaway on Friday but I am not being derailed Smile

Part of the reason I've gained weight is stress but there has to be a better way of managing it than landing myself with a weight problem worse than the one I already had! I just stuffed so much comfort chocolate.

LightandAiry · 13/12/2021 08:38

Blimey that was long!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 13/12/2021 09:15

Hi All. Hope everyone is ok? @Asinglepringle always good to get in jeans etc. @Susana85 I'm told they don't recomend carrying over syns, but I reckon it's much better to do that than say 'sod it, I'm having cheesecake anyway'. It worked on WW, unless thing have changed.... I liked to have points in the bank, rather that be on overdraft, but didn't always work out. @Susanna I struggle with bread, but have found a small loaf with no added sugar, and I can get two slices for my Hb, so a sandwich if I want. Thanks @LittleDoritt. I'm allowed out today, so I'll take it steady. I really want to get some pudding rice to try one of the App recipes, and I've struggled to get it before now, for some reason. I think some nice comfort food is in order, but not looking forward to weigh in, as obs excercise has been off the cards, with having covid.

Susana85 · 13/12/2021 20:07

Question: where are you all based?

I live in a nice wee town called Peebles, in the Scottish Borders. Moved here in July from Edinburgh. I currently do not work.I am supposed to be doing full time University studies but have taken a year off to settle into the new house and care for the kiddos.

@LightandAiry Sounds like you have a very busy week indeed! I hope your mother's move goes smoothly. Also, booster not to give you any trouble - I am getting mine on the 29th. Enjoy the time with friends Xmas Smile I am sure you will do fine with balancing the food. You'll get back on track with the weight loss. Christmas will be over soon. Be proud - 11 lbs in 7 weeks is really great!

I think I agree with you @SpongeBobJudgeyPants about carrying over syn points. It is better than going over and not adjusting from that. I totally went over today Sad thanks to my father in law sending us 4 bags full of his special homemade cookies from Germany. I didn't go crazy and eat an entire bag unlike my partner! I plan to not use any syn points tomorrow. I will see how my weigh in goes tomorrow night. As for the bread, I also use a wholemeal that counts as my daily Hb.

A Christmas Buffet sounds amazing and horrifying @LittleDoritt, this is certainly the worst month in the year for any healthy eating habits! It is good to know how to enjoy a little and not be too hard on yourself. If you stick to the plan it will come back down again. In my experience drinking lots, and lots of water when hungry really helps. I started with a pot of greentea every morning to boost my system before eating.

I do not have anything planned for Christmas since all family in other countries from both sides. It is a little depressing but better for my new healthy diet, trying to look at the bright side.

Wilma55 · 14/12/2021 09:52

The exercise videos are now on the app!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 14/12/2021 10:55

Oh right Wilma. Have you done any yet?

LittleDoritt · 14/12/2021 11:05

Half a pound off for me today. Total rubbish but for mid-December I'll take it! As long as that scale is still going down.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 14/12/2021 11:22

@LittleDoritt that'll do for Christmas tho?! @Susana85 North Staffs.

Wilma55 · 14/12/2021 12:47

Hello all. No @SpongeBobJudgeyPants I only found out they were there at this mornings meeting, nor had a proper look yet. I was really hesitant about WI this morning as on my scales I had gained. I found my lightest leggings and blow me I'd lost 2lbs! Wish I'd worn normal WI clothes now. Not at of people in masks which was disappointing though chairs did seem more spread out.

Welcome @Susana85 it's so good to see new people as well as the regulars!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 14/12/2021 12:53

2lbs is a great result! I always weigh in same yoga pants, top and flip flops. No breakfast, mug of coffee in same size mug. Gotta cover all eventualities Wink

Wilma55 · 14/12/2021 14:27

Ha ha SpongeBob I only had one cuppa this morning though did have porridge. The Talk today was about Christmas day food. My shouts of Bucksfizz were ignored!
What is everyone doing about meetings over the festive period? I started off going to a Saturday meeting but the last 2 weeks I've gone on a Tuesday (different leader) The Tuesday one is carrying on as normal, the Saturday one is probably going to be Christmas eve and NYE (ie Friday).

LeftyLou · 14/12/2021 15:09

Hello and welcome @Susana85 Smile I hope you are enjoying your slimming world journey so far.

@Wilma55 @SpongeBobJudgeyPants thankyou both so much for finding out about the lo dough pizzas! Will definitely give them a try.

Congratulations on your weight losses this past week @LightandAiry @LittleDoritt and half a lbs is not at all rubbish! All in the right direction, if anything all the temptation this year brings we should be proud of what we are achieving.

Love a NSV. That is brilliant @Asinglepringle. These are the things that make the effort so worthwhile.

I found a recipe for mince pies which I am going to make for the SW Christmas party tomorrow. Haven't heard anything about it no going ahead so assuming it is. Probably be wearing masks though. According to the website I found it on it is 1.5 syns per mince pie or 8 for a hexb/6 syns.

It is my sister's birthday today. Made her a carrot cake. Going to say no to a piece not to be a party pooper. Planned in a sweet treat instead. Think a slice is around 31.5 syns and portion sizes I am sure could be more Grin

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 14/12/2021 18:10

@Wilma55 we meet on Thursday, and meetings are carrying on as normal. I think the Saturday meetings are moving back a day to Friday for the festive bit. @LeftyLou I have heard of a recipe involving the pastry bit of the mince pie being substituted with a warburtons thin or similar, and also cupcakes having mincemeat in, but haven't checked the app. Have now had a quick look at the excercise videos, which was entertaining, but I understand you actually have to move your body in time to the music to get the benefit, not just watch them . Apparently. Will start soon ! Grin

LightandAiry · 15/12/2021 06:38

Morning all, my Ds has tested positive on a Lateral Flow Test but I am negative. All crossed the rest of us in the house stay negative, but some hope. Ds was sitting outside with a bunch of mates Saturday night and the young lady next to him I've heard is now unwell with Covid. Bound to happen one of us would catch it!

Wilma great loss well done. I have a Boxing Day meeting if I am still negative

SpongeBob I've just seen a recipe For mince pies on the app...worth a look, Santa was making them!

Susana85 I am on the South Coast, nearer to France than Scotland!

LeftyLou I love carrot cake 🍰 no syns in the carrots though?!

Have a good day everyone. My busy week is now not so busy can't have friends round. I am actually very worried about my Mum, who is vulnerable, as my Ds hugged her when she was at my house on Monday, but she's had her booster, she will be OK.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 15/12/2021 08:02

Morning all. @LightandAiry that's a nuisance. Hopefully you won't get it, but it's a pain not to be able to meet folks this near Christmas. Will the legislation about not isolating just having negative tests make it easier for you? Not sure when that becomes valid, but it has been voted through (yesterday?). Will have a look at the mince pie recipe, thanks. Fondly remembered a recipe I have made several Crimbos with pastry with nuts and lemon peel, and chocolate in the home made mincemeat. Oh well, will have a limited amount of chocolate over Christmas and hope that does the trick!

Susana85 · 15/12/2021 14:31

Afternoon all,

Yesterday I got my first weigh-in and lost 4lbs! I am super happy and surprised, considering I ate quite a few of those biscuits from my father in law. I am a going to try and go for 3lbs for next week to get my 1/2 stone.

@LightandAiry I am sorry to hear about your DS, isolation is no fun! Most important is that all of you are feeling well. I have been through this back in June and my Ds had to miss his last week of school and not get to say goodbye to all his friends before we moved house to another town and school. I first tested positive and DS didn't test positive until 10 days after my first symptoms - the day we were to be off of isolation and had to start all over again! My DH and my younger DS never tested positive, so there's def hope for you!

@LeftyLou I also love carrot cake, yummy. I bet there are ways to make that carrot cake less than half those syns, but I am sure your sister prefers the original Wink Hopefully she'll understand if you don't go for a piece.

Wilma55 · 15/12/2021 18:30

Well done @Susana85 that's a great loss. I had a stollen slice this afternoon at book club (4.5 syns I think) it was very good!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 15/12/2021 21:09

Stollen sounds good. I finally got round to making the SW rice pudding today. Did it in the slow cooker, and it wasn't bad to be fair, but at 3.5syns per portion it isn't as low syn as I thought it would be, given that the rice is 'free'. I'm weighing in tomorrow, which I'm a little apprehensive about, having missed last week due to the covid.

LittleDoritt · 15/12/2021 22:22

Good luck for tomorrow Sponge.

Fantastic first week Susana!

I had a spot-on perfect breakfast and lunch plus loads of water, and then totally fell off the wagon at dinner. That is my regular, historic pattern of dieting so am a bit frustrated with myself.

Asinglepringle · 16/12/2021 07:27

Morning all!

Well done @Susana85 on your great first week loss 👍🏼

I'm really struggling now with the constant temptation at every turn! Didn't weigh in this week as I'm frightened of what the scales might say.

Got a works do this evening, pre-ordered the tomato and basil soup followed by the salmon dish so hopefully not too bad. Declining the dessert 😕.

Hoping to rediscover my mojo very soon!

Good luck everyone! Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 16/12/2021 07:54

Thanks @LittleDoritt. Morning @Asinglepringle and anyone else who is up and mn ing at this hour! Coffee on the go, all good. I watched the Santa making mince pies thing. The recipe is a bit.... I would probs buy bought ready roll pastry, syn it, rather than make it. And this x no of tablespoons of mincemeat? Easier to use half a jar and syn it, and divide between portions along with the pastry? Is it just me? I'm obsessing on mince pies as I actually had 2 Blush yesterday. Didn't eat much generally, but not been 'counting' properly when ill. Today should get me back on track, at the weigh in. I went to watch the excercise videos (only watch, mind) on the app yesterday, and I can't find them! Anyone know how to acess them please?
