6 stone to lose. Help!

Hi everyone,
Just looking for encouragement and support. Starting a new group tomorrow. 10 years ago I had a successful stint and lost 3 stone in 6 months. Had lots of unsuccessful goes since then but I really have to make it work this time. Got foot surgery coming up so it's a medical requirement as much as for confidence and general health.
I would just love to "chew the fat" ...😂 Ha ha, not literally!!!... with other new starters.

Hey everyone only been away from the thread and so much has happened here!

Hope you're not too bad with Covid @SpongeBobJudgeyPants

Well done on losses, all.

Been feeling the cold recently which is unusual for me, usually quite warm even outdoors in bad weather! DD says it's cos I haven't got as much 'padding' on me Xmas Grin. Feeling much more hungry as well in this cold weather unfortunately- anyone feel like this

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 10/12/2021 11:48

Morning all. Thanks @Asinglepringle. I think there are primitive reasons we are programmed to eat more in the cold weather. Normally that would be me, but the Covid has put me off the ole grub a bit, partly cos I can't taste it. I can only think how much worse I'd be if not double jabbed. Yes, I don't really want to be weighing in from home. Hopefully it won't come to that. Our classes have gone back to masks again.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 10/12/2021 12:39

@LittleDoritt paying to do the work yourself seems a bit of a swizz doesn't it?! I may be influenced by the fact that our SW leader, though pleasant enough, isn't at all very inspirational. Also, I was disapointed by my experience of yoga on zoom. The reason I paid as opposed to going on Youtube was that in class she puts me back in the right position, but this didn't happen in zoom, so I might as well have done the videos in my own time. @LightandAiry are you having a specific pizza? Might get around to making one some time in the future.

Wilma55 · 10/12/2021 14:21

I just had the message re face masks in group. Someone got Lo Dough pizza base in slimmer of week a while ago and made lovely pizzas. I think the base was 2 syns? Can only buy online though I think.

LightandAiry · 10/12/2021 15:41

SpongeBob we are having Papa John's looked it up, 7 syns per slice for thin crust. Will limit to 3 slices with some salad. I don't really fancy Zoom meetings either, at least we can stick together on this thread.

LightandAiry · 10/12/2021 15:46

My ds is coming home from uni tomorrow. I have missed him a great deal, and I hope the normality carries on for him. I know he would love a take away curry to celebrate, but it will be cottage pie with sprouts instead, especially after pizza!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 10/12/2021 16:43

Lo dough pizza base sounds interesting @Wilma55. Always nice to see the offspring @LightandAiry . My teacher DD is intending coming home for a few days when they break for Christmas. I found the takeaway Chinese in black bean sauce stuff not too bad. Not necessarily what I would have chosen, but nice enough. Resisted the bag of free prawn crackers too, which I thought was quite disciplined in my case. I hasten to add, this was pre covid.

LeftyLou · 10/12/2021 17:01

Thankyou everyone Smile I know its going to get really tough now as Christmas fast approaches.

I will be really disappointed if they go to virtual groups again. I dont want to weigh myself at home (albeit I do) but I like going out to a group. Its a bit of time away from home. I work there all day anyway.

I have never had those before either so not sure what they are like, but I can't see me liking them as much. Plus the scales at SW are a tiny teeny bit more accurate.

Our group is supposed to be doing Christmas party, but the consultant said she was excited about it up until my groups where she started to worry about if we could or not. I know she doesn't want to do virtual either.

Enjoy having your son home @LightandAiry that is lovely and hey cottage pie is delicious!

Lo dough pizza sounds good. Only 2 syns?? Where can you buy those?

Hope everyone has a fab weekend. Working tomorrow but it is for a good reason. So I am not working between Xmas and New Year.

LightandAiry · 10/12/2021 17:30

LeftyLou I am delighted ds is coming home. He has potatoes and carrots to use up so all good!

You're right things are getting very challenging. That said, a meet up with friends is cancelled. Hey ho fewer calories....

A.few years ago I lost weight with a lovely group of Mumsnetters on here, we weighed in on different days. Just made a list, copied and pasted every time we posted weight loss and just added to it. Not as sophisticated as a spread sheet but I remember I lost about 2 stone. If we go to virtual groups which doesn't appeal that could.be a possibility.

LightandAiry · 10/12/2021 17:33

SpongeBob lovely to see your dd for a few days.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 10/12/2021 18:06

@LeftyLou you can buy them online here also at some shops, but nowhere near me. I'm not sure about it. Might have a go at the sticky mix first, will have a look at the app.

Wilma55 · 10/12/2021 19:12

Just checked....

6 stone to lose. Help!
SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 10/12/2021 19:17

Temptingly low!

LightandAiry · 11/12/2021 09:46

Morning all, I hope everyone is OK.

Spongebob I hope you have your sense of taste back and feeling a bit better.

I lost 1.5lb this week. 11lb all together. I feel lighter and went for a walk after group - I am walking faster without getting out of breath.

I am now working from home, which is a good thing as I can finish off Slimming World left overs for lunch and not tempted by the chocolate in the office.

Thanks for the link to pizza bases

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 11/12/2021 12:40

Hi All. Hope everyone ok? @LightandAiry it's always good when you start to feel a difference, makes it seem more worthwhile. For me, just a case of pushing on until I get to that point, but at 1.5 stone I'm now feeling it. Not completely got my taste back, but turns out DH has lost half a stone this week via Covid. Because he can't taste the same, he's just fuelling with food. I wish I could do this more instinctively, cos that's food's primary function. SD did a food run for us, and we resisted the urge to go for biscuits/comfort foods. Well, small pack of 5 syns 2 finger KatKats, but that was about it. I have a rogue cauliflower lying about, so might just have another go at cauliflower pizza, as there's one on the SW app.

Asinglepringle · 11/12/2021 18:45

Hey just checking in. @LightandAiry 1.5lbs is a nice loss, well done! And @SpongeBobJudgeyPants hope you're on the mend Smile

Had a shock this afternoon when I answered the door and saw my exP stood there. He lives in another country so the shock was real. Finished with him a few months ago (hence the username) but he reckons that I didn't make myself clear HmmAnyway I put him straight once and for all. Feeling quite anxious now though and feel like I need wine and pizza. It's just showing me how I misuse food and alcohol to handle stress. I'm resisting so far, more so he doesn't 'get the better of me' iyswim. DD's gone out so I'm on my own stressing SadSorry

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 11/12/2021 19:17

Oh @Asinglepringle that does sound like an unpleasant shock. Is there someone you can ring to offload to? Or have a nice bath with some feel good music? Maybe allow yourself a glass of vino? Flowers

Asinglepringle · 11/12/2021 20:03

Thank you @SpongeBobJudgeyPants for the good suggestions. I've been decorating all day (he obviously saw me at my best - no makeup, scruffy painty clothes Grin) so I need a big shower. Going to chill with the dog and find something good on Netflix. Found a SW ready meal Pasta and meatballs thingy in the freezer so happy days! Might be some low syn vodka somewhere but definitely resisting going to get wine!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 11/12/2021 20:16

Vodka and low cal mixer might be the way forward. Well done for resisting the pizza.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 11/12/2021 20:16

Actually made the cauliflower pizza from the app, and it wasn't bad! Just required more faffing about with.

LightandAiry · 11/12/2021 20:29

Asinglepringle that's very stressful and I am the same, would have wanted a pile of chips. We need to think of non food de-stressors, great suggestions from SpongeBob I have just watched Strictly, lit all my candles and had as diet cake. Avoided the Bailey's!

LightandAiry · 11/12/2021 21:45

Diet coke not diet cake!

Susana85 · 11/12/2021 21:52

Hello - hope you don't mind I join into this thread. I am a newbie. I started SW last Tuesday at my local group. I am looking to lose 5 stone and feeling super positive about it. I did Weight Watchers back in 2009 for a few months and then managed to lose 7.5 stone over 1.5 years. I was 25/26yr and kept the weight off for 5 years without an issue... until, that is, I gave birth to my DS in 2015. I quickly gained 75% of it back and have been like this since. I had my second DS last year and have put on 1.5 stone on top of the weight I haven't shaken since my first pregnancy.

I am still trying to get my head around the system of Syns and have some questions on how to calculate when I eat out. For example, tonight I ate out at an Italian restaurant with the family and got a Spaghetti Seafood tomato dish. I can't imagine this having a high Syn value, since I got it without cheese. I know this has olive oil in it, but Max 10 Syns I would calculate. However, when doing the food search there is one entry for a restaurant Spaghetti Marinara (seafood) and it says 20 syns! yikes. Now I am over my Syn limit by 5, is this true?

LightandAiry · 12/12/2021 09:55

Welcome Susannah85 Smile

I have been doing Slimming World for 7 weeks and it's working out well this time. I've joined before and not committed. I think the difference for me this time is making sure I always have speed food with every meal and 1/3 plate rule.

Did your spaghetti taste very oily? It sounds like the ingredients were free and would just be olive oil to guess and maybe olives as well.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 12/12/2021 13:02

Hi @Susana85. I'm an export from WW too. Still keep calling things points and not syns... @LightandAiry diet cake sounds good to me! :) Whenever I look up the recipes, they tend to do too much for DH and I, and not generally be freezable (assuming they make it that far). Banana bread seems to be the nearest I can get to it. @Asinglepringle how are you feeling today?
