hey so been going through my families normal meals to try and work out syns or whether I need to not make certain meals but am having a bit of trouble with the meals I make from scratch eg I make a loaded potatoe dish in my slow cooker but there's quite a bit of cheese in my recipe along with bacon... I don't really want to get rid of this meal as it is something that is easy and more importantly something my sen dd will eat no problem every time.
the recipe calls for about 200g of cheese and a fair bit of bacon (obvs I can make the bacon free if I cut all the fat), then potatoes, garlic granules and fresh chives. we don't have anything else with it except a side salad.
is there a way I can work out the syns or do u think it would be alright to enjoy if I don't have any other syns that day or am I going to have to get rid?

p.s I already use 1 cal spray to 'grease' the bottom so no syns there.
xx

Hi everyone, can I join please? Ive done slimming world before but haven’t stuck with it for silly reasons. I am determined that this time I will lose the weight. I went to a group this morning on my own (big step for me), have done a meal plan for the week and done my shopping. I have about 5 stone to lose and that feels like such a daunting task but I have to start somewhere so I have started today!

caremummy · 06/01/2018 18:22

I seem to have mix of sinusitis and flu like symptoms. Great. Picked all day, probs over syn but low ish on cals. I go back up to uni tomorrow and have ordered thanks to my lovely dm loads of healthy food 🌸 Hoping to shift this soon, as laying around all day is not good for me

caremummy · 06/01/2018 18:25

I wouldn't know exactly as cant have dairy, but I think if you use cheese for your hexA that could work out okay. I take it the 200g of cheese is for the whole dish ? If so and that's between a few of you it could be free

Raisedbyguineapigs · 06/01/2018 18:26

Mommy what about using low fat cheddar and counting 1/4 of it as your hex a or try it with 150g of LF cheese instead and see if it makes a difference and do the same?

scarfdemon · 06/01/2018 18:28

Can I join?? I joined sw last jan, went to meetings for a month, carried on myself for another 2 months, lost stone and a half, got bored then gradually put it all in again. I've not been in the right headspace until now but ready and motivated to start again. Are there any new books for 2018? I don't really get on with the meetings, so trying to go it alone until I lose motivation but wondered if it was worth signing up and going for the first one if there are new versions of the books.

Princesspeach89 · 06/01/2018 18:37

Hi ok to join? this is my third time round, lost over 2 stone last time but went and had a baby so put it all back on. I'm 12st 8 and want to get down to at least 10st, atm struggling as still got about 3 boxes of Christmas cholcolates left on the kitchen side 😩

theotherendofthesockportal · 06/01/2018 19:34

@Princesspeach89 I think you are actually me! I'm weighing in at 12st 7 and want to get down to 10stone. My weakness is left over Christmas chocolates. I've eaten half a box of Thornton's today and hate myself for it.

Princesspeach89 · 06/01/2018 19:53

Haha well if you have any tips on resisting the Xmas chocolate let me know, im sat here right now thinking about a cup of tea but I know the chocolates will end up coming with me too.

theotherendofthesockportal · 06/01/2018 21:59

@Princesspeach89 I'm planning to use all the leftover Christmas chocolate and biscuits to make refrigerator cake. Then make my husband take it to work with him. This banishing it all from the house in one fell swoop. Could you do the same?

Princesspeach89 · 06/01/2018 22:49

Problem is DP is trying to do slimming world with me. I did however give a box to my sis today so one box down: I might bag up the celebrations into synned bags so I don’t overindulge in them

mommytoboo86 · 06/01/2018 23:05

Yh I forgot I can have cheese as a he the 200g is for the whole dish between 3 of us (I probably eat about a third of this so 66g cheese) he is 38g of lf cheese if I remember so I'll just add syns for the remaining 28g
thanks I was quite miserable thinking I couldn't have it as it's become my favorite since giving up takeaways in July lol

lokijet · 06/01/2018 23:48

rejoining - have previously done SW but now joined online as I'm a single working mum so find it hard to make meetings

top tips to get started - any cupboard staples I need to get in ??

Oldowl · 07/01/2018 11:30

Personally, I got in fry-light, eggs, curry and chilli powder (I am going through so much), tinned toms, chick-peas, stock pots, a couple of SW meals for the freezer for emergencies, porridge oats, quark and frozen berries.

I then bought lots of fresh veg- sw potato, butternut squash, spinach and mushrooms go in everything. I roast parsnips, aubergines, courgette, sw pot, squash, onion and tomatoes all the time and toss over a salad.

I don't eat much fruit but I take chopped pineapple to work and have a bannana and berries with overnight oats.

latedecember1963 · 07/01/2018 11:44

I always have rice (basmati and arborio), dry pasta, chopped tomatoes or pasata, stock cubes, dry plain egg or rice noodles, tuna in springwater, cans of sweetcorn, marrowfat peas, baked beans, butter beans, cannelini beans, eggs, sugar free squash and the usual dried herb and spices for when I haven't got fresh.
Not syn free, but Batchelor's pasta and sauce and Ainslie Harriot's cous cous are useful if time is short or I'm not feeling very inspired.

Fridge/freezer staples for me include yoghurt (fruit and plain Greek), quark, Quorn slice, Quorn mini cocktail sausages, fruit, veg, salad, skimmed milk, Quorn mince and fish fingers.

Flutterby81 · 07/01/2018 12:37

Just made fun free tomato soup for lunch which was rather nice. Beef raft feomnpinchbof nom site for dinner today. So far so good hoping for a nice loss tomorow Smile

Flutterby81 · 07/01/2018 12:39

RhinoGirl · 07/01/2018 21:07

I need to find my groove where I lost 2.5stone. I’m nearly back to the heaviest I’ve ever been and that makes me so upset. I will do this this time!
Made the chicken chow mein, dh loves it so it’s the best meal to start off with!

Groovee · 07/01/2018 21:42

Such a lazy day but I did go to Burlesque even though I should have had a sleep after the wedding.

Good been good today. Hoping yesterday off plan doesn't cause too much issue x

Does anyone else but then throw away a tub of Quark every 3 weeks? I never actually use it for anything... What works?

calzone · 07/01/2018 23:51

Blankie I used quark for making carbonara spaghetti.

Was really really good.

PositiveAttitude · 08/01/2018 06:18

Blankie I use quark for a quick syn free dessert. I add a bit of flavouring - favourite at the moment is the caramel one and some fruit and sprinkle of sweetener if I need it. Really filling, sweet and rather nice!
I like the garlic and herb one for a quiche, too.

Flutterby81 · 08/01/2018 07:15

Morning everyone first wi for em this morning and 4 pounds off very happy with that. Chilli for dinner today then a nice salad to take with me , goal for this week is to drink more.
Anyone here ever used one of the fruit infusion bottles? I’m considering getting one but not sure what kind of fruit works well in there?
Hope everyone has a good day.

00alwaysbusymum · 08/01/2018 07:47
