New thread to see in 2018. Everyone welcome.

Having lost 4st in 2017... I'm looking at target by Valentine's Day if possible.

Look forward to welcoming everyone back and welcome to those embarking on their journey x

I’m addicted to making the sw beef lasagne. I add extra courgettes and carrots to the sauce, together with Worcestershire sauce and a bit of soy sauce. I promise it works! Also, a dash of red wine. I find it very filling and doesn’t make me feel like I’m dieting at all

MyGuideJools · 05/02/2018 22:36

vintage I lost 5 stone and in my first week I lost 7lb, and a few 6lbs but after the first few weeks lost a steady 1 or 2lb a week.
Good luck with your target.

MumInTheCity · 05/02/2018 22:57

vintage - yes I have a huge amount to lose, at least 6 stone, which is why it's coming off quickly at the moment. Judging by past experience if I'm good and stick to plan then I usually lose the first couple of stone quite quickly then it slows right down again.

IvorHughJarrs · 05/02/2018 23:49

I'm still plodding along, doing ok but I suspect not really having enough speed foods on busy days like today.

My triumph was having family round for a meal yesterday and managing to serve an on-plan meal that everyone enjoyed. I even did a cheeseboard instead of pudding (I don't like cheese so not tempted)

PositiveAttitude · 06/02/2018 06:34

Well done losers!!

I was very impressed with the slow cooker mushroom risotto. My new favourite!!

Weigh in for me tonight......

Pipsqueak11 · 06/02/2018 07:56

I did the mushroom risotto on the stove - agree it was yum.i didn't have any quark and it was fine without . All family liked it too apart from mushroom hating dd2

Groovee · 06/02/2018 08:01

Weigh in for me today. No idea how I will get on as I just never know.

Can I Join?

I started Slimming World yesterday after dropping 4 stone on LCHF last year. I stopped LCHF in October because we had some family stuff happen that meant it was difficult to keep up, so from October until last week I gained back 2 stone of the 4 i lost Sad

I now have 6 stone left to lose to get down to my target weight of 11 stone (I'm 5ft 5) and since Jan 1st I've been trying to get back into LCHF, but I just can't sustain it. My MiL suggested Slimming World so here I am. I dont have a target time i need to lose the weight in or anything to aim for, so I'm much more focused on learning to et like a normal human!

I'm going to try and eat full fat products and keep my fat intake reasonably high because I now understand how important this is, so most of my syns I imagine will be used that way.

Yesterday I ate:

B: Wholemeal toast (hxB) and 1 teaspoon of whole earth peanut butter (3 syns)

S: A plum, orange and a pear

L: Roasted med veggies with brown rice and halloumi (hxA)

D: Lamb shank stewed with veggies, broccoli, cabbage and roast potatoes (actifryer) - 2 syns for the oil and 4 syns for gravy granules.

Total: 9 syns.

Today is:

B: Toast and peanut butter (3 syns and hxB)
S: Apple and 2 plums
L: Cous-cous with med veggies, lemon and mint
S: Pomegranate
D: meat and potato pie (short crust pastry) with green veg - 13 syns for the pastry, 2 for gravy granules

Total: 16 syns

Can anyone spot anywhere I'm going drastically wrong?

Groovee · 06/02/2018 08:54

Welcome @BigFatFanny. I just have to ask why you think you are going drastically wrong? It seems fine to me though I would add some berries with breakfast. But that's me.

BigFatFanny · 06/02/2018 09:04

groovee because I've spent a year on LCHF and it feels weird eating this amount of food without gaining weight! Im sure once I get over that I'll be fine :)

Groovee · 06/02/2018 09:57

Although did you have 18 syns not 16 because of the pastry?

So... how do flexi-syns work - if I compensate the rest of these week, can I use more than my allowance in one day? Work are having a pie lunch and its not looking good for low syn options. I asked what the options were and apparently its pie and biscuits.

Testarossa1 · 06/02/2018 11:48

Well done everyone who has lost. Congratulations to those who have reached a 'milestone' weight loss. Good to see the plan can work. I've been busy cooking for the freezer again this morning, a SW chicken curry and a carrot and beetroot soup. Having that for lunch.

Testarossa1 · 06/02/2018 14:46

Just made the nicest snack! Lasagne crisps. 3 sheets of lasagne in a pan of boiling water for 2 mins, take out and drain. Cut into triangle shapes and place on a baking sheet. Spray with frylight, sprinkle with salt, pepper and paprika (or whatever else you like) and bake for 15 mins at 200c. They go super crispy, like tortilla chips. I had them with a bit of fat free Quark to dip. Quick, nice and syn free!!!!!

UnwiseOldElf · 06/02/2018 14:56

7lb this week - which counts for two weeks as I couldn’t go last week. If I can do 2.5 this next week I’ll get my 3 stone award. Still got a way to go, and been slowed down by Christmas and then going away with a friend, but glad to be back on track!

Groovee · 06/02/2018 15:02

@boo1507 slimmingworld.desk.com/customer/portal/articles/1346446-what-are-flexible-syns-?b_id=1101

I would have the meal off plan and eat everything else on plan.

@Testarossa1 That can be classed as a tweak. They were all the rage in 2005 but SW said it was a tweak. I could never get them to work right.

@UnwiseOldElf Well done x

We were talking about tweaks at class this week, our consultant said that slimming world have gone very quiet on the subject of tweaks. I'll still make them, as surely they are better than opening a packet of Doritos!!!??? Obviously not something I'd have everyday, but they'd be a healthier option for movie night rather than nachos and a regular dip.

MyGuideJools · 06/02/2018 16:02

testerossa they sound lovely! surely it's just pasta which is free? i don't understand 'tweaks' Do they go really hard tho like cooked pasta?
I'm on day 2, went to wee every couple of hours overnight which always happens when I start a healthy regimeConfused feeling positive tho, made shepherds pie with swede and carrot top for dinner.

boo1507 · 06/02/2018 16:50

Thanks Groovee. As it turned out there was a vegan "pie" - a tomato based butter bean salad, so I had that with the filling (I ditched the pastry of a chicken pie. I'm sure the sauce and cooking method still make it off-plan - but I tried!

IvorHughJarrs · 06/02/2018 18:19

We had this conversation in group last week about tweaks as one lady said it made no difference to the amount she ate if she coated her chicken in Smash to make KFC or served it as mash with plain chicken. Our consultant said just bear it in mind to stop if you plateau or if it makes you eat more of something than you normally would

IvorHughJarrs · 06/02/2018 18:24

Fanny I did the same jump from LCHF to SW and began with the same outlook as you but I found that I still felt hungry using syns for fat as you really can't get enough to satisfy yourself. I have gradually compromised somewhat and now use products like Skyr and Quark which are low fat but fairly unprocessed (in comparison to e.g. Weight Watchers yoghurts, fake cakes, etc).

I still try to avoid bread and use my HEB on nuts, Weetabix or simply don't have one if I have had some carbs like pulses or jacket potato. I have so much veg there's no chance I need fibre from carbs!
What I have taken from the LCHF is using simple and unprocessed items as much as possible

Tweetypie30 · 06/02/2018 18:53

Wow Mum. That's amazing. I'm off to class soon. I really hope it's another loss this week.

MumInTheCity · 06/02/2018 20:00

B - banana
L - Diet Coke chicken and noodles with extra veg
D - cheeseburger in a bun (HEA & B) with gherkins and relish (2 syns), chips, salad and homemade coleslaw (1 syn)
S - nothing yet, might have a hifi bar later

Groovee · 06/02/2018 20:14

Lost half a pound. 4.5lbs to target.

Won the raffle. But I've gone completely downhill again and feel so ill x

OP posts:
Oly5 · 06/02/2018 22:28

4.5lb off in two weeks for me,
Making my total weight loss in 5 weeks 10.5lb. Slow and steady! At this rate, I should hit my target of losing 3st in about 5 months’ time. Just in time for summer and all my lovely summer dresses! Can’t wait. It really helps me to focus on a goal - in my case, all my nice clothes that don’t currently fit.
Good luck this week everyone.
