First big test of my will power last night. My brother, who currently lives abroad, had come over for a work conference near our home. He had booked dinner at a gastro pub near his hotel. I looked at the menu online so I could decide what to choose. I avoided the starter, then had grilled lamb with redcurrents accompanied by new potatoes and steamed veg. I asked them for a small portion of potatoes with no butter, but with extra veg, and they provided an enormous bowl of baby carrots, courgettes and broccoli. I did have pudding, but chose panna cotta with fresh berries, and gave the accompanying ice cream to my DH! Obviously some sins ( a Lidl individual panna cotta is 10 sins), but I didn't have much of my HEX milk, so I am sure it will balance out .

MumInTheCity · 01/02/2018 22:57

Well done Vintage - I find eating out really hard on SW. I'm going out for lunch tomorrow but only to Nando's so fairly easy to eat low syn there.

Today I've had:
B - nothing, just wasn't hungry
L - Diet Coke chicken and rice with veg
D - Hawaiian pasta bake with salad (HEA for cheese on top)
S - a hifi bar (half HEB)
Had 2 fairly big meals so haven't really needed any extra syns today or my full HEB

Flutterby81 · 02/02/2018 12:28

Welcome @GandalfTheGoat well done on keeping 2stone off, I too do it from home January vouldbhave been better but still gone ok Smile

MyGuideJools · 02/02/2018 17:08

Hi everyone and well done on all the losses!
I was on here in 2016/17
as lavenderRainbow and lost 5 stone in 10 months.
unfortunately my dear dad became terminally ill and died and I've gone totally off the rails ever since (I started a thread about how ashamed I am) I've put back on 4 stone.
Now I feel in a better place and ready to start again. I'm not going back to group as I only used to pay, weigh and go and can't afford it right now.
so I'm back on here for inspiration and tips. Going to dig out my books and charts tonight! Good to see some old names on here too!

Groovee · 02/02/2018 17:27

Lovely to see you back @MyGuideJools. You'll always be Lavender to us. Hope we can help you x

Welcome back, Myguidejools. I remember you from last year. You popped into my head when I spotted some other returnees after Christmas. Lovely to have you back!

MyGuideJools · 02/02/2018 17:35

Thank you! Glad you are still here with lots of encouragement.Smile

Is Groovester still around? she called me her twin as we lost weight at the same rate!

I've been taking the Quaker porridge pots to work. The ones where you just add boiling water. Does anyone know if these can be Hex B? They are listed as 9 syns but hoping they can be Hex 🤞

Vintage62 · 02/02/2018 19:19

MumInTheCity Ha, I have never eaten in a Nando's. That is because I am Middle Aged Mum In A Small Market Town!

MumInTheCity · 02/02/2018 19:51

MyGuideJools - I'm sorry for your loss. I'm in almost the exact same position. Originally lost 6 stone, then my dad also became terminally ill last year and died over Christmas Sad. As a classic comfort eater I've put on almost all the weight I'd lost and am here starting again.

Scaredofthegym · 02/02/2018 19:52

Hi all,
Only started sw this week and doing ok so far I think. Feeling very good with all this fruit and veg!
Il be eating out tomorrow as we always do on a Saturday lunchtime to get out with the kids. Any suggestions as to what to order? Is soup the best option in a cafe? What about at nandos or pizza express, what would you get??

MumInTheCity · 02/02/2018 19:54

Vintage62 - I live in south London, Nando's is basically a compulsory part of any diet around here Grin

My meals today:
B - fruit
L - Nando's butterfly chicken breast, spicy rice and salad (5 syns)
D - Chinese fakeaway - including SW sweet and sour chicken and banquet rice both from Iceland, homemade chicken chow mein and a broghie to act as a prawn cracker
S - nothing yet due to 2 huge meals! May have a couple of hifis later for HEB

MyGuideJools · 02/02/2018 20:17

muminthecity ⚘sorry for your loss. it's tough isn't it. Dad died in Sept and he encouraged me so much every step of the way. I feel I owe it to him to get back on track. I'm also a classic comfort eater and can eat until the cows come homeConfused

Groovee · 02/02/2018 22:02

@MumInTheCity so sorry for your loss.

@Scaredofthegym nandos is good for butterfly chicken skin removed, spicy rice and either corn on the cob or salad. It's about 5 syns.

I know my meal in Pizza Express at Christmas was about 45 syns 😭.

Welcome back MyguideJools I remember you. My mum died just before your dad and I am with you totally on the comfort eating!! I have hung around here, but not lost anything really since I lost mum - I have just hung on by my fingertips!

MyGuideJools · 02/02/2018 22:51

I remember you PA! if I remember correctly you live just over the water from me?!
Well done for sticking around, I'm so Ashamed of how quickly I put weight back on!

PositiveAttitude · 03/02/2018 08:14

Aww yep that's me!!
Don't beat yourself up about the weight. It's done!! You needed to just get through the last few months as best you could and you know that slimming world works for you and it will come off again. Flowers

Tweetypie30 · 03/02/2018 12:28

So sorry to read about those of you have lost your Dads and Mum but well done for getting back on plan so quickly. My Dad passed away three years ago and I've only just got to a place where I feel like I can concentrate on myself. I'm a classic comfort eater as well. To be fair to myself I did have a newborn at the time so it's taken me a while to get back on my feet. Lets all be kind to ourselves Flowers

MyGuideJools · 03/02/2018 14:37

Good call tweetiepie30 👍we can do this!!

Does anyone know about the Quaker porridge pots? Are they suitable for Hex B?
I know the satchets are ok but not sure about the pots you add hot water to?🍯

Groovee · 03/02/2018 14:56

@MyGuideJools no the pots aren't a HEB and some of them are 10.5 syns 😱

OP posts:
MyGuideJools · 03/02/2018 15:16

oh no! They are so convenient for work. I thought they would be better cos they're made with hot waterSad
Thanks groovee

Testarossa1 · 03/02/2018 15:34

Alot of the Quaker oats pots and sachets are high syns, worth checking out on the website or app.

Scaredofthegym · 03/02/2018 16:16

How many syns are in the hifi bars if you've already had ur heb? Can't see anything in the book. Is there a way of working out syns by looking at the calories in things (I know we're not supposed to mention cals!) - someone said its 20cals =1 syn?

Testarossa1 · 03/02/2018 16:29

3 syns each. Same for alpen light bars

MyGuideJools · 03/02/2018 17:41

testerossa I know the porridge oats are high syns, i was hoping to use the pots for HexBSad
scaredofthegym I was led to believe that 20cals= roughly 1 syn

MumInTheCity · 03/02/2018 19:25

20 cals = 1 syn works as long as the thing you're synning doesn't have any free food in it

B - banana and yoghurt
L - leftover Chinese chicken and rice
D - tomato and mozzarella pasta (HEA)
S - bag of walkers flavoured poppadoms (3 syns), 2 fruit and nut hifis (HEB)
