Child sharing my bed vomiting over me. DH pissing the bed, loudly enough that the piss pouring through the mattress onto the floor made me thinking there was a leak pouring from the ceiling. Houseguest screaming for help in their sleep. These were on different nights thankfully.

🤮

The worst was a phone call from a hospital to tell me my mother had had a stroke. She survived but she's now quite significantly disabled.

The second worst was the Buncefield explosion. We were a few miles away but it was still loud enough to rattle the windows. Scared the bejesus out of me. When I looked out of the window and saw the fire I thought at first that a plane had crashed.

Shit! Then what happened?

He jumped backwards and ran to the door, I legged it after him and he dropped my handbag that he’d been holding and I stopped running to pick it up and he was gone. I didn’t sleep and moved out the next morning. It was in Italy. The staff were very unhelpful.

The sound of paramedics trying to revive my mum as my dad was wailing/sobbing, after my mum had collapsed and died in the bathroom. I was 7 years old. That night is etched in my memory so vividly and always will be.

Sleep paralysis

ILoveToCleanSaidNooneEver · 29/09/2024 22:49

I wrote mine and then read yours directly above mine @dreamer24. So sorry you had to witness that.

A burglar downstairs. For some reason I just calmly walked downstairs and said "get out of my house" luckily it worked and he ran off.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 29/09/2024 22:51

The 1987 hurricane in London. It blew the window out into the bed.

My son, trying to open my eyes by tugging at my eyelashes to ask if I was 'in'.

StressedQueen · 29/09/2024 22:52

Only a few months ago, my 9 year old screaming like a banshee at the top of her lungs. Leaped out of bed thinking she was in proper trouble only to find out it was because of a spider that had crawled on her face when she was asleep. Can't even blame her there.

Dog about to be sick

Spider running across my arm

MrsPostmanPat · 29/09/2024 23:11

A shelf above the bed fell on my head, along with the books, cds and niknaks that were on it.

Dog puking on the bedroom floor and bedding (the noise and the smell!!)

Cat pissing on the bedroom floor.....in between the floorboards....not a drop on the boards themselves!

Car crash right outside the house at 4:30am....young dickhead was speeding and wrote off the car opposite as well as his own.

A man on top of me holding a knife to my throat. He told me that he was going to kill me if I didn't do what he wanted.

MarkingBad · 29/09/2024 23:41

Woman being attacked screaming for help, which I did

The dog suddenly howling in the early hours of the morning

My frequent nightmares

I've been the cause of waking people frequently while I'm asleep, apparently one night I shook my friend awake and told her we needed to get out of here quickly and quietly. Poor woman was fast asleep and was now wide awake while I'd just gone back to sleep again.

I also sat up and threatened someone not there for hitting me with a rolling pin

Several people who know me well say I say and shout really mad things or get up and sleep walk doing stuff before going back to bed.

Police using a battering ram to get in the flat across the landing. The echo-y landing that makes it sounds like the police are coming in your flat. 5:30-6am, about twice a year. Thankfully the drug dealer decided to get a supermarket delivery job during covid. Surprisingly he was quite a nice neighbour.

So sorry you had to go through that. I had something similar while awake but I couldn't imagine waking up to it.
I hope you are coping ok

One Saturday morning, by my mum telling me to get up as they'd had a phone call from someone where my wonderful uncle lived, telling them he'd collapsed on his way to work and had been taken to hospital. We then spent an anxious time waiting to speak to a doctor, to eventually be told he'd died. He was only young, had never married or had children but was the best uncle in the world. I was 18 when it happened and I'm 56 now but I'll never forget him.
