NinaMarieP I do the same with my breast pads! I'm sure it doesn't bode well with whatever company I'm in but sleep deprivation has led me to not give a shit!

NinaMarieP · 31/12/2017 20:01

I envy the non leaky folk. Every feed my 'spare' boob pours like crazy and if I forget the beast pad I end up soaking.

Jellybean2017 · 31/12/2017 20:52

@meepmoop you're very brave hosting that many people! I can barely cook for me and DH 😂

@realistmum welcome! There's usually a few of us about during the nights! 😊

I have had to bring DS to bed leaving DH with our guests downstairs. He was screaming the house down (DS not DH!!)

Haven't had fireworks here... Yet! They had better not wake me or DS up (wishful thinking that we will be asleep soon!!)

Could i join please! Its so nice to find people who are in the same boat as me! As i swear most kids my DS age sleep through the night now. Hes 18 months and never slept through the night! I'm still hoping 1 day soon he will.

Bit of background. He has a milk/soya allergy and did have reflux up until recently. Because when he was tiny he used to wake all the time i feel its now a habit and he cant seem to get out of it.

Any tips are welcome!!

NinaMarieP · 31/12/2017 21:19

That's me in bed now hoping for a bit of sleep before LO starts really waking up (he's already woken twice since 7.30 but both times he's gone back down with his dummy right away.)

See you all next year! (Really hope I'm not back in 2017!)

xxrealistmumxx · 31/12/2017 21:52

I'm also going to bed now. Already had one wake up since going down at 815pm. Dreading the fireworks going off as the last two nights he's been up for nearly two hours from midnight and that's with a silent house!
Good luck everyone x

NinaMarieP · 31/12/2017 22:05

Well of course I'm back already. Think I dozed off for ten minutes and then he woke up. Trying a feed to see if that'll settle him.

Meepmoop · 31/12/2017 22:10

@Jellybean2017 I'm only hosting a buffet type affair. Wouldn't even know where to start with a proper meal!

DS and I are now in bed, DH is in charge of the oven as we decided to put the next lot in to give us more time in the morning.

I've told DS he had to see the new year in by sleeping in his cot, we shall see..

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 31/12/2017 22:16

This had better be my last post in 2017! DS slept for a while downstairs, woke and had his bottle, now falling asleep again. Maybe sleeping better will be his new year's resolution?? We can but hope...

Those of you with people round, I'm impressed! Me and DH tried to hold out for watching two episodes of Black Mirror (we were never going to see midnigh) but after a roast dinner and some champagne we decided to call it a night and see each other in 2018 Grin

No fireworks here yet but a helicopter keeps flying overhead which is annoying and disconcerting - I'm in Glasgow, where the memory of the 2013 Clutha disaster is still very real...

actino · 31/12/2017 23:01

Hi, everyone! We're having an exciting new years here. We are at a friend's house playing Risk, I'm currently breastfeeding and our friend's wife is possibly in labour (but still playing the game!).

I can't remember who had the leaky boobs, but have you used breast shells? They catch the milk which means you can save it for later. I've also used them for sore nipples to keep air flowing around them.

Catscatsandmorecats · 31/12/2017 23:29

Had a night of not even looking at my phone during wakings last night, partially trying to not wake myself too much and partially because I had no energy to lift it! Does anyone else find winding after a feed or keeping the baby upright for whatever reason absolutely shattering? I really struggle with it and DS2 needs a good ten minutes after each feed and often an hour or so due to cough/cold/wind etc. I'm so worried I'll fall asleep and drop him.

DS1 went off to sleep quickly tonight, DS2 however was tricky and has already woken for a feed. His cough is really bad tonight. So I reckon lots of feeds for DS2 and an early start with DS1. My stomach is on the mend but I'm still shattered and we've got MIL's dog staying so I'm trying to stay up sleep on the sofa as long as possible with her to stop her getting upset by the fireworks.

Those of you saying on the previous thread that motherhood isn't what you imagined, it does get easier but I do think the first especially is such a shock to the system and no one really tells you how bad sleep deprivation can be. That said, now I have DS2, even with less sleep and less downtime due to DS1, I am really enjoying it, I am much more relaxed and confident as hashtag said too. Doesn't stop the mum guilt for not enjoying DS1 as much though! But for the first timers, don't let it put you off - I had basically said I'd write off the first 4 months with DS2 as it would be awful and now it's almost gone - far too fast!

Also agree on the sleeping style nursing bras, I'd never wear anything else if I didn't have to for certain clothes. So comfortable.

Also agree on yoga - my physio actively encouraged it during a tricky pregnancy and postnatally.

Man, I'm rambling, I'm on my own as DH has gone to a party, but he'll be back by midnight, I didn't say he needed to be but I'm glad he will be. You people partying are hardcore - we did ours earlier. Happy New Year - I hope you all get to sleep through it Grin

ew1990 · 31/12/2017 23:44

Can I join? I've been lurking since your very first thread back when I had pregnancy insomnia, DD is 8 weeks old, I breastfeed for the first week but switched to formula.

I thought I'd cracked it when she slept for 3 nights 10-4, didn't last long 🙈 she's only just gone to sleep after an hour of trying and I'm praying the fireworks don't wake her up.

ew1990 · 31/12/2017 23:53

And she's awake 🙄

theotherendofthesockportal · 31/12/2017 23:57

Looks like I will be doing the magic 20 minute hold into 2018. Happy new year to all of you

Catscatsandmorecats · 01/01/2018 00:08

Happy New Year all.

The fireworks have woken DS1 - luckily DH back in time to listen out for DS2 and keep the dog calm.

Fingers crossed for some sleep later for everyone

Meepmoop · 01/01/2018 00:09

Happy New Year!!

DS woke up at 00.04 in his cot so technically did what I asked. Plenty of fireworks going off now!

sleepycat13 · 01/01/2018 01:12

happy new year all! trying to put ds down to bed after staying up for the new year. starting to regret it now. shouldn't mess with the little routine we do have. think all bets are off for tonight now

NinaMarieP · 01/01/2018 01:44

Happy new year all.

After ten minutes in one boob LO fell asleep and slept in my bed until 1.10 with just two (I think) wake ups requiring the dummy. I was able to roll away and on to my stomach which is my preferred position so I actually got some sleep.

It's me with the leaky boobs. I have shells but the faff of sterilising them for the sake of half to three quarters of an ounce was a pain. I've also discovered I need to scald my milk so he'll drink it after it's frozen or stored for any length of time so that would be a double pain with small but frequent amounts of milk.

Catscatsandmorecats · 01/01/2018 01:46

Well I got half an hour s sleep between getting DS back to sleep and DS2 waking for a feed!

Good luck meep and sleepycat

Meepmoop · 01/01/2018 02:17

Ooops I'm a bad mummy, I fell asleep when he was feeding for an hour and a half.

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 01/01/2018 03:12

Happy new year all!

DS woke at 1am for feed, went back to skeep at 2am...then up again at 3 ffs.

Jellybean2017 · 01/01/2018 03:16

Happy new year all 😊
DS just let me have three hours sleep 😊
Things usually take a turn for the worst around this time. DH has just done the nappy change and gone back to "his room" 😂 I went up there earlier to look for cat and it was a mess so I (jokingly... Sort of!) asked him to tidy it! Apparently I sounded like his mum 😂 oops!

OP posts:
WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 01/01/2018 03:26

Ha ha jellybean I did the same with my DH! His room looks like a bomb has hit it - clothes discarded on the floor, drawers opened and not shut, bed unmade. I joked 'this is what you become when we don't share a room' which didn't go down too well..Grin

Well done on 3 hours sleep! Hopefully you'll get a bit more although I know what you mean about this being a tricky time of night.

Zampa · 01/01/2018 03:30

Happy New Year!

I was lurking in your previous thread but thought it high time to say hello!

DD2 is 6 weeks old today and we have a 2.5 year old DD1 too. Eldest has global development delay. Sleep this week has been rubbish as DD2 doesn't go for longer than 2 hours and DD1 has had a cold.

May 2018 bring more zzzzzzzzs!

Jellybean2017 · 01/01/2018 03:30

😂 @Whoateallthepercypigs glad it's not just me, your description sounds very familiar, the cat was curled up asleep on DH's discarded clothes 🙈
DS has fallen back to sleep, wish me luck...
