Hugs @WhoAteAllthePercyPigs so sorry you're going through this. Like everything else it's just a phase, but I know that's not helping right now

@GimbleInTheWabe DS only wanted to sleep on my chest but he's getting a bit too big and restless for it. Plus my back and neck were really starting to suffer. Co-sleeping doesn't work for him in the way they recommend it as the safest, he has to be pressed against me. But I figured I can make it work if I lie on my side and rest his head against my shoulder/upper forearm, with my hand holding his bum and keeping him close to me and not rolling over. So we are both lying on our sides facing each other, and his airways are clear. He loves it, I feel he's reasonably safe, and we can get 5-6 hours of sleep that way. Maybe something to consider.

Sorry, wanted to tag @actino in my previous post

Hi everyone, hope you are all okay despite the sleepless nights, are you managing to get som sleep during the day?
For the first time in 6 days I managed to settle ds in his cot last night at 1.24am and he slept until 3.30am! He used to sleep between 2-3.5 hrs at a time in the first couple of weeks of his life but this then changed to 30-45 minutes and very occasionally up to 1 hr 40minutes so I’m well chuffed with the 2 hrs and the added bonus was that I could cuddle up to my dp. By 3.30 am ds woke up and we went to the lounge for a nappy change and feed, this took over an hour so stayed put and got about 45 min sleep before dp got up for work. We then went back to bed to feed lying down as we could then have a sleep too😊
I’m still trying to get organised to express but have only managed it twice and that only gave me 2oz in total (30 min pumping in total) and I think I would need at least 5oz for a feed. I’d love to be able to have some milk expressed so that dp can give him a bottle if I need a nap.... with ds feeding so often it’s difficult...
I went to a breastfeeding drop in yesterday, it was nice to meet some other new mums. I spoke to the health visitor and lactation support staff about ds’ shallow latch, the fussy ness/ frustration particularly at night when on the breat and the fact that he feeds all the time which means he doesn’t sleep for very long (apart from when we’re out in the pram). They suggested compressions and that there is quite a bit of tissue/ membrane under his tongue so could be what’s causing issues... several midwifes checked this when we were still in hospital and didn’t find any signs of tongue tie so I really don’t know what to think... my dp suggested I could call our hv for advice or leave it a bit and see if he changes pattern as he gets older (1 month yesterday). He is putting on weight and seeing and pooing loads so no concerns there. I tried using compressions last night and although he did get frustrated several times I could tell the compressions worked. Gosh it’s so hard isn’t it? I really don’t want to wish this time away but secretly I do look forward to him being a little older.
Today we’re staying at home chilling in front of the tv (ds currently asleep in my lap, tried to move him on to the sofa a couple of times but he won’t have it..
I really need to get some Christmas shopping sorted... 🎄
sorry for waffling on....🙈🙈

Meepmoop · 14/12/2017 12:19

Anyone else get envious of people going to bed on tv programmes? I keep imagining it's me.

I think I'm slowly going crazy

AMagdalena · 14/12/2017 12:21

I get brekkie in bed every day 🙈 DH gets up really early for work and I am always starving in the early hours of morning, so he makes me breakfast as we don't want to wake DD.

I think DD did a 6 hr stretch last night. I 'think'. All in my bed, obviously.

@WhoAteAllThePercyPigs Won't your DS settle in your bed at all? We were forced into co-sleeping as I couldn't physically manage all the feeds, DD startling herself with her arms etc. I think DH is a bit annoyed that DD has moved into our bed, but sod it. I need sleep.
And also, you're absolutely right to let others see you're finding it hard! I do. I am flipping exhausted and everyone knows it.
Missing a work Xmas do tonight as DD is way too clingy with me in the evening and has only just started taking the bottle.
One of my work colleagues commented that her son is clingy and wants her at bedtime, too, so she'll purposely leave him with her DP.
Some might say I should just 'teach DD a lesson' and leave her with DH, but why? She needs me and that's what she'll get. I am sure soon enough I will be able to go out in the evening, but not just yet and I am fine with that.
It's as if we have to be glamorous all the time and lead our lives as they were.

AMagdalena · 14/12/2017 12:22

Btw, I have just successfully transferred DD into the pram for a nap 👌 It'll be a one off, like, but I can go to the loo at least 😂

Ven83 · 14/12/2017 13:33

@Sakura03 Midwives are notoriously bad at recognising tongue tie, and even GPs, so don't take their opinions as gospel - ask your HV for a referral to a proper lactation consultant or a midwife trained to recognise tongue tie.

Ven83 · 14/12/2017 19:03

DH is at his work Christmas do tonight so he'll be home late. I'm so tired I can barely keep my eyes open. DS has been catnapping all day but only for about 20 minutes at a time Envy The good old days of 2+ hour naps are well and truly gone Sad

AMagdalena · 14/12/2017 19:07

@Ven83 my DD only took long naps in the first 3 days. 33mins is the usual length. Sometimes 45...........

AMagdalena · 14/12/2017 20:17

Wonder what tonight will be like. I don't think I let DD get overtired even once.
Not even hoping for cot sleeping, though.

HashtagTired · 14/12/2017 20:22

🤫

I will catch up on the thread when I'm up with the inevitable night feeds.... just dropping in to say dh is at his Christmas meal tonight and drinking. He's gone out. I've put the two children to bed. Both fast asleep. Currently feeling like Wonder Woman whilst lying in bed having showered too!
Off to get some sleep before the first wake up. (I'm normally in bed at this hour but dh looks after Ds downstairs until midnight when he brings him up to me for the rest of the night.)

Wish me luck!!! 😬

HashtagTired · 14/12/2017 20:23

(But wish it quietly, please!!)

HashtagTired · 14/12/2017 21:09

He headbuts me, pulls my hair, treats Nicole catapulting like it's an Olympic sport; my back is broke (I hate this bed) and starved of sleep (at times).... but one tiny smile and all is forgiven 😍

HashtagTired · 14/12/2017 21:09

Nipple catapulting*

HashtagTired · 14/12/2017 21:10

My back is broken. Not broke. Can I blame my appalling typing on him too?!

@FortheloveofJames I love that one...both the baby and the cat were playing this game last night. Bastards.

Jellybean2017 · 14/12/2017 21:39

Loving all the memes!

DS is spectacularly overtired. He fell asleep for 30mins at 7.30ish them all hell broke loose. Didn't want to feed so DH put him I'm the sling. Thought I might get a couple of hours asleep alone! But alas it didn't work so he's back with me.

Meepmoop · 14/12/2017 21:44

DS has been asleep on me for the magical 20 mins so time to attempt the cot transfer. Wish me luck.

I wasn't successful last night so hoping tonight will be better.

Those memes made be laugh!

Meepmoop · 14/12/2017 21:47

Didn't work and now he's mad!!!

AccrualIntentions · 14/12/2017 22:24

The 20 minute hold just failed spectacularly for me too. Well it could be worse, she's not crying but she is wide awake.

Meepmoop · 14/12/2017 22:31

It's so frustrating when it doesn't work.

DS was flipping between crying and staring at me, just fed him and he's now asleep. Waiting 20 mins to do it all over again

theotherendofthesockportal · 14/12/2017 22:41

I'm attempting at magic 20 min hold. DD has a cold so she is alternating between nodding off and screaming
