I've tried to introduce a bit of a routine again although it bit me in the arse last time. Me and DH gave DD a bath at 10pm, DH gave DD a bottle whilst I then had a bath. She is now asleep in her crib next to our bed. My idea is to gradually bring bath time backward towards 7pm as she starts to sleep longer (I live in hope).

Now to share with you my top parenting tip... the wheels on the bus magically stops DD being grumpy. I've had to invent new verses to make it longer, cats and dogs on the bus etc.

My mum who works in early years tells me that babies like the wheels on the bus as it is a repetitive rhythm. It especially works if gently pat her in time with the singing,

AccrualIntentions · 01/12/2017 22:52

Are all babies total gits in the evening? DH is at the end of his tether as he comes home from work knackered and then DD is so upset and unsettled the whole time he's home until we go to bed. He's only been back at work a week and I can tell it's already really bothering him as he's not getting to see any of the quiet good bits that I experience during the day. Sad Thank god it's the weekend!!

theotherendofthesockportal · 01/12/2017 22:58

@AccrualIntentions I feel the same, my husband only really experiences our daughter in angry mode. The poor man works 6 days a week too :(

AccrualIntentions · 01/12/2017 23:07

@theotherendofthesockportal I think he feels a bit useless too because she won't settle for him....not that she'll settle for me between the hours of about 5 and 11 either.

Fourth wakeup at 01:14 Hmm so tired!

Feed #1 for me
Feels a bit like a non event. Fed for 8 mins and conked out on me. Tried winding him to wake him up but he just won't burp or take more milk. He's current snoring on my shoulder in the winding position while I type this.

I'm going to pay for this in two ways. 1. He'll be windy, and 2. He'll be hungry again very soon.

Hey ho. I'll try and get some sleep now. I reckon I'll be back here for ... 🤔 ...3pm. See you then!👋

GingerHanna · 02/12/2017 02:13

Handover feed just done. DS is snuffling away whilst I pump. Hoping he will go to sleep quickly, deeply and for a good few hours! 😂

Thank you everyone for comments on chest sleeping. Made me feel a lot better. Going to buy a sausage pillow to try safer lying down feeding that may lead to a bit of bedsharing. We shall see...

Jellybean2017 · 02/12/2017 03:00

Up again. Surely he isn't actually hungry. Have had to sit up as pins and needles in arm to go with sore back and neck!

So the attempt at a routine has bitten me in the ass again. DD has also rewarded me with an unscheduled middle of the night poo for my efforts.

Now holding her on my chest to get her back to sleep. I haven't slept yet at all.

HashtagTired · 02/12/2017 03:21

I'm good at this game. Dh woke me at 3:12 as he was just so fidgety. Assumed it was feed time but this time I remembered to do the nappy change. And he fell asleep mid change 🙄

He's windy not hungry but he's awake again now. I'll feed him and get him to sleep.

Hate this bed. Back is aching. Ffs.

HashtagTired · 02/12/2017 03:25

It's poo day! Ds did his last poo on Sunday so he's due to blow any day now!

Ceesadoo · 02/12/2017 03:41

@GimbleInTheWabe Sounds lArgely successful & you got to enjoy lipstick and a copy of the Metro life again! I wonder why your husband was out of sorts. Probably quite hard work for him without you there especially as you are breast feeding. Amazing that you expressed so much milk too!

Ceesadoo · 02/12/2017 03:42

Tonight is a long night. Everyone on Instagram is posting pics of their baby with a Christmas tree or advent calendar or one of those elves. I'm still just trying to survive.

GingerHanna · 02/12/2017 03:46

And we’re up again. Less than two hours since start of last feed. 😥

GinUnicorn · 02/12/2017 03:58

Well mine managed 4 hours :)

NinaMarieP · 02/12/2017 04:36

We had the shittest evening. I was on my own until 8.15. Grumpy afternoon. Fed, slept and cried from about 3 on. Started bedtime feed at 7.20 after a ridiculous long nap. First half went ok but after nappy change he refused boob and was hysterical. Too tired to feed but ?too hungry to sleep. Took two bloody hours before he was asleep and he screamed for most of them.

So I expected an awful night. But no! He slept for six and a quarter hours... I mean how?? Why can't he do that after a good bedtime feed?? What is life??

Jellybabie3 · 02/12/2017 05:17

@NinaMarieP I'm with you. Ds was overtired - So much so we had to leave the shops because he wouldn't stop crying. He just woke after 6 hours. Dont get it. Is there a chance hes sleeping too much in the day normally? I thought sleep breeds sleep do dont ever wake them. Ds is 8 weeks old today

GingerHanna · 02/12/2017 05:34

And back up again. Fuck My Life.

AccrualIntentions · 02/12/2017 06:09

DD has been asleep on my chest since 1am. If I could have relaxed enough to sleep properly that would have been 5 hours solid!

Ven83 · 02/12/2017 06:17

Baby's having a good night, woke up once to feed and has been asleep for over an hour now, but I can't fall back to sleep Sad I hate that.

theotherendofthesockportal · 02/12/2017 06:46

Back up again at 6. I've been wee'd and thrown up on. Now she is unsettled and intermittently howling at me.

HashtagTired · 02/12/2017 07:28

I saw every hour from 1am last night. Apart from 6am, I think we slept through that one.

Lallypopstick · 02/12/2017 07:41

Another one with a day of short naps and then a longer stretch than usual in the night. The day before he’d had a 3 hour nap and took ages to settle at bedtime.

Babies are so contrary!

Jellybean2017 · 02/12/2017 08:31

Same here @hashtagtired. Was hoping for a good sleep as DH and I are going to do a couple of hours Xmas shopping while a friend babysits this afternoon. So I wanted to actually look nice and feel awake as we have barely spent any quality time together since DS arrived! Now I'm thinking the time would be better used as afternoon nap! 😂 oh well. Will have to get a festive coffee in town to perk me up 😇

DS must have read the rules as he didn't nap well yesterday or sleep well at night 🙈
