Is anyone else awake? Could do with a hand hold. Still awake with DS on me, he can't breathe in his cot. Feeling a bit despairing. In the early days DS slept pretty well at night, but it's been getting worse and now we are almost at what would have been his due date, I'm wondering if this is how he's going to be with sleep. Oh and I googled that a cold can last 10 days...noooo, I can't survive on no sleep for that long!

Jellybean2017 · 27/11/2017 05:08

I'm awake!!! Hope you're ok. DS has had a few colds but haven't lasted more than a few days so I hope that's the case for you too. We used the saline drops in his nose to help ease the congestion...

Yeah I’m awake too(sadly)!!! On feed #3 ds only did just over an hour’s sleep... I’m desperate to go back to bed. He really doesn’t like his nappy changed and screams the house down every time, any suggestions to what we can do? If he has a change of clothes I put it on the radiator first so it’s nice and warm and use warm-ish water on his little bum.

I’m awake too!

11 week old also has a horrendous cold and will only sleep upright on me 🙁

theotherendofthesockportal · 27/11/2017 05:52

I'm awake! I've had about 2 and a half hours of sleep. DD was nodding off after her 4.30 feed, then she pooped, the nappy change woke her up again.

Then I managed to stab myself in the foot with a toe nail from the other foot. So now I'm in pain, cuddling DD on the sofa to prevent disturbing DH.

Jellybabie3 · 27/11/2017 06:44

@WhoAteAllthePercyPigs a bleb is a milk blister on your nipple. Trying to feed through the pain.....Sad

Sorry you had a rough night @WhoAteAllthePercyPigs do you have the wonder weeks app? Just wonder what that says RE: when you can expect LO fussy stages etc.based on birth date

HashtagTired · 27/11/2017 07:21

@Sakura03 for a barrier/nappy cream we swear by Metanium. The yellow stuff. Bloody brilliant stuff, but don't get it on clothes or the carpet!

HashtagTired · 27/11/2017 07:22

@Sakura03 and I only use it when I absolutely need too. Not regularly.

HashtagTired · 27/11/2017 07:27

@Sakura03 my dd used to scream every time I changed her nappy and/or clothes. Even the HV commented how much she would scream (I thought it was what every baby does so was surprised when the HV said something). Unfortunately it was just something my dd hated no matter what I did.
My ds is much more chilled about nappy changes and only whinges if I do it before a feed and he's hungry.
Don't beat yourself up over it, some babies just hate being changed 🙄

HashtagTired · 27/11/2017 07:29

@WhoAteAllthePercyPigs sorry to hear you've had a tough time. Colds can last a while but I think little ones do get used to it and power through towards the end of it so it might not be as bad as it sounds. I really hope you get some sleep soon!

HashtagTired · 27/11/2017 07:32

@WhoAteAllthePercyPigs yes I second wonder weeks, mostly. I don't live my life by it but I do like to read when fussy periods are likely to start and end, but most of all I like to read about what Ds is learning about in his development stages.

HashtagTired · 27/11/2017 07:51

Just heard on R2 that sleep boosts immune system.

Well, I'm screwed then! 🤧

AMagdalena · 27/11/2017 07:51

DD point blank refused to go in the cot last night! DH attempted putting her down 4 times. As soon as he picked her up, she was bang out, only to wake 2 minutes after being put down.
She was up every 3 hours...in bed with me

GimbleInTheWabe · 27/11/2017 07:52

@Sakura03 my DS also used to really scream when he got his nappy changed and would otherwise be a really chilled happy baby but he does it much less now (he's almost 7 weeks) and like @HashtagTired he'll only cry if he's really hungry or we've woken him by changing him so hopefully your LO will grow out of it too. As for him cream we use a weleda calendula one which has always worked well and clears any redness within a few changes.

Welcome @ValentineFizz!

First feed for me was at 5:45 so almost another 6 hr stretch! He's so fussy in the evenings and he's awake for hours before he sleeps so I'm not surprised he conks out for so long.

And yes @Jellybabie3 what the bleb is a bleb?!

sleepycat13 · 27/11/2017 08:07

@HashtagTired and anyone else using the wonder weeks app do you go by due date or birth date? ds was 15 days overdue so obviously there is quite a discrepancy between the two and not sure what one is more predictive of fussy periods etc?

GimbleInTheWabe · 27/11/2017 08:53

@sleepycat13 you go by due date as that's a more accurate way of tracking the development leaps. DS was 9 days overdue and WW has been pretty accurate so far!

HashtagTired · 27/11/2017 08:55

@sleepycat13 yes, due date. It explains why in the faqs, something about realistic development age.

sleepycat13 · 27/11/2017 09:07

thank you!!

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 27/11/2017 09:20

Thanks all! Sorry to whinge, I just need to hoik up.my big girl pants and get on with it!

DH took DS at 6.30 and I got almost 2 hours more sleep. Feeling rotten though. Head pounding.

DH going to buy saline spray today, will put the vapo in my room and also have propped up the mattress slightly. So do hour worst, cold! (actually please don't...)

Does anyone think I should call the GP? Online it said that this should be done if baby is under 3 months...but he's not got a temp yet and is feeding with wet dirty nappies.

Thanks for explaining the bleb @jellybabie, ouch, sounds bloody painful! The joys of breastfeeding eh...

HashtagTired · 27/11/2017 09:31

@WhoAteAllthePercyPigs re Gp it's always got to be your call. If you fare questioning yourself then you probably should see the GP.

Key indicators for me, are a fever and dry nappies. If temp is ok, and plenty of wet nappies the chances are everything is ok, but never let anyone ever tell you what to do. Sometimes mother's gut instinct is enough.

mummarosie1 · 27/11/2017 09:40

@WhoAteAllthePercyPigs I personally would. Little babies have such small airways so the snot and inflammation can be proportionally worse. I’m a doctor (although that feels like a past life now!) and we are always happy to review any small baby just to be on the safe side :)

Jellybabie3 · 27/11/2017 09:58

Google nipple bleb. its a small milky red blood blister on the end of a duct where ds hasbeen sucking the nipple hard. Not much i can do except feed through it and wait for it to go down.....apparently if it bursts i will know about it. Its on my dodgy boob so i guess we let the latch slip.

NinaMarieP · 27/11/2017 10:12

My LO had a cough and cold at 8 weeks, right after he recovered from his first immunisations!

Snufflebabe oil in warm water and a blanket under the head of the mattress was what we did and it seemed to work. He was grumpy in the day and very snuffly at night until we did that but never had any other worries about him.

GimbleInTheWabe · 27/11/2017 11:18

Sorry @Jellybabie3 I missed where you explained the bleb. Doesn't sound nice at all, I hope it improves soon

Also I'm using the Hakka pump now, and I've expressed 2oz in only 5 mins, it's amaxing!! Thanks for the tip!

Jellybean2017 · 27/11/2017 11:58

Just had a lovely hot cup of tea in the hairdressers. DH off today so has taken DS for a walk in the sling, hope he stays asleep as he will want feeding soon! Eek!

Jellybabie3 I had a bleb a week or so ago. Took three or four days to go... Hope yours heals soon.
