I think I need to focus on self settling now. Baby was awake every two hours and settled with a short feed each time. I don’t think he’s hungry because he falls asleep so quickly.

I’m feeding him now and he keeps coming off the boob to laugh at me because I have the hiccups. So cute.

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 26/11/2017 08:21

Wow that's great Gimble! Six hours, I can't imagine it! I have to remind myself that DS is only 3 weeks so we've a way to go yet. I'm just terrified he'll be like DD was because I'm not sure I can go through that again.

DH took DS at 6 so I could get sleep. I told him to give DS a bottle but apparently he misheard and didn't, so only managed a bit of sleep before he was back with a crying DS. Am absolutely fuming. Is it too much to ask to get some sleep?? Have no idea how I'm going to get through today.

Jellybabie3 · 26/11/2017 09:08

My ds fed for only 10min and went back to sleep😒

The unhelpful book i am reading says to lengthen his feeds to get into a routine of 3 hours apart during the day. Has anyone managed this? Ive tried the usual tricks to keep him awake but if hes tired i wont push it as i end up with an overtired baby. My ds feeds whenever he wants atm at 7 weeks old. Usually every hour if awake only longer if asleep....

Jellybabie3 · 26/11/2017 09:10

I'm still in bed. If he's staying then I'm staying. Not a Sunday lay in as such but it looks bloody chilly out there and i am atleast warm!!

NinaMarieP · 26/11/2017 09:17

@WhoAteAllthePercyPigs I have had a lot of 'oh GOD what have we done' moments though that are less frequent now than in the early days.

I actually went to see my dr at about 2 weeks because the sense we had made a huge mistake was so overwhelming.

@Jellybabie3 my LO has to have about ten hours sleep from midnight until before I put him to bed. So that could be five hours of night sleep and five of naps or four and six etc. His normal is around 14 hours in 24.

The app is called Glow Baby.

@GimbleInTheWabe One arm out was much better than everything akimbo so I'll do that for the rest of the week then free another body part next weekend.

AMagdalena · 26/11/2017 09:27

Jellybabie Easier said then done re feeds! My DD still feeds every 2-2.5hrs and if I try and stretch it out, she cries. What book are you reading? Is your LO refluxy?

Not amazing night here. DD was wide awake at 4am for an hr 😑

Jellybabie3 · 26/11/2017 09:31

Yeah he is abit refluxy @AMagdalena. I will try to distract him more by playing maybe? Its called your baby week by week.

Jellybabie3 · 26/11/2017 09:38

How old is your dd @AMagdalena? You must have told me before sorry....

AMagdalena · 26/11/2017 09:43

I find that it's better for DD to have more smaller feeds so she doesn't spit up as much.
Does your DS feed to sleep? If not, you might be able to get him to have a little nap in-between feeds. At 7 weeks there's only so much you can do to entertain them without overstimulating them.
DD is 17 weeks today Shock

theotherendofthesockportal · 26/11/2017 10:58

@WhoAteAllthePercyPigs it's a relief to see such honesty on here! I love my DD, I had a miscarriage before I had her, so she is so very precious to me. But, I do still think "what have I done?" The sleep deprivation is awful, plus I've pretty much housebound for 6 weeks now. I'm sure I will feel better once I'm allowed to drive again after Monday.

I also snapped last night. I handed DD to my husband last at 8pm and he has taken soul responsibility for her since then. He is starting to look very tired and frazzled. Welcome to my world love!

Jellybabie3 · 26/11/2017 11:05

@theotherendofthesockportal i felt the same re: being housebound. I got the ok to drive last week ans i feel 50x better just knowing I can go somewhere - even if i then chose to stay in bed!

@AMagdalena yes he feeds to sleep. I am going to start tracking everything like you do to keep tabs. But yes he feeds, plays, but then wants the boob to sleep.

You think hes too young to change?

Meepmoop · 26/11/2017 23:08

It’s quiet here tonight, I’m hoping that means all is well with everyone.

DS is asleep on me and I’m about to start trying to get him in the cot. I tried and failed until 4am last night until I put him in bed with me

theotherendofthesockportal · 26/11/2017 23:18

My plan to start introducing an earlier bed time routine has gone horribly wrong. DD vomited all over herself and it got in her hair, everywhere. Ended up with an emergency bath for her in the bathroom sink. She is now wide awake after the drama and refusing to sleep.

Sakura03 · 26/11/2017 23:20

I’ve had ds attached to me most of today, so no change there really but he seems a little more sleepy tonight compared to last night but we shall see. My dp is back at work tomorrow so I’ll be on my own looking after ds, I’m sure we’ll be fine but I’ve just really enjoyed having 2 weeks with dp, also there are certain things I still can’t/shouldn’t do due to recovering from c-sec.

ValentineFizz · 27/11/2017 00:11

Hi ladies, l hope you don't mind if l join you here?

I am first time mum to DS who is 3 weeks old. He is exclusively breast fed just now but hoping to start expressing next week so that DH can share the load and l can go out on my own for short periods of time if l want to!

I have just fed DS and put him to bed for the night, will be up again for feeding at either 2am, 3am or if I'm really lucky 4am...... That will take at least an hour as he's very windy but takes ages to bring it up and l also need to keep him upright for a while after a feed as he's prone to being sick - he is gaining weight though and plenty wet & dirty nappies so health visitor not concerned.

Current Ewan favourite is front leg, the heartbeat one 🐑

Sakura03 · 27/11/2017 00:52

Welcome @ValentineFizz. My ds is 2 weeks old and I’m considering expressing for the same reason as you, have you bought a pump yet?

I'm on feed #1 went to bed 11.30pm and only got an hour before ds was awake again.

Do you guys use a barrier cream? My ds’ bum is starting to look a little pink and it would really upset me if he got a sore bum...

Jellybean2017 · 27/11/2017 01:07

Hi! @valentinefizz 😊 glad to hear Ewan is working his magic for your baby!

@sakura03 we tend to put sudocrem on DS, particularly at night. He is 16 weeks now though so past the poo in every nappy stage! Have also heard bepanthan cream is good.

He napped well albeit in the sling yesterday although still had the usual meltdown at 7 last night which culminated in me bringing him to bed to feed lying down. I also fell asleep! So have had about six hours so far, excluding a feed at about 10.30. Just hope I am not awake for the rest of the night now though. And don't really fancy going to bed at 7 every night as DH doesn't get in from work until 6.30... However if it means sleep then maybe I will just have to go with it for now. If I could put him down "drowsy but awake" I would have so much time on my hands!! 😂

sleepycat13 · 27/11/2017 02:20

@Sakura03 we don't use s barrier cream (midwife advised it wasn't necessary) but we do apply bepantham at the first sign of any redness and irritation. it seems to work well and within 1-2 (at worst 3-4) nappy changes it normally looks clear again. tend to need to do this once a week or so

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 27/11/2017 02:33

@sakura we just use sudocreme but agree bepanthem is very effective.

Bad night here. DS has a cold - not surprising since the whole household has it but I'd really hoped he might avoid it. Poor soul can't breathe properly, and really struggles if he's lying on his back. He did a stretch from 9 till 1am but I can't get him back down and am sort of resigned to having him lie on me which means no more sleep for me tonight Sad will wait till 5 and then get DH to take over. Feel so bad he has a cold at just 3 weeks!

Jellybabie3 · 27/11/2017 02:39

Sorry to hear about the cold @WhoAteAllthePercyPigs. 4hour stretch is good though? Albeit rubbish if you think you won't get any more sleep.

I am on feed #1 here after 4 hours. Its fine except I have a bleb 😱 ow

Jellybabie3 · 27/11/2017 02:42

That is a nipple bleb

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 27/11/2017 02:44

Thanks @jellybabie. He got 4 hours and I got around 3, so not awful.

Boobing away and have also applied snufflerub, i seem to recall that was the 'shizzle' when DD had a cold.

Was going to try and elevate his cot but haven't a clue how to do that and too scared to!

What's a bleb?

SophieGiroux · 27/11/2017 02:46

You can just put some big hardback books under the legs on the head side

ValentineFizz · 27/11/2017 03:41

Thanks @sakura and @Jellybean 😀

Feed 1 in progress here so got 3 hours sleep - quite happy with that....

I use metanium ointment at first sign of a sore bum and find it to be excellent.

Sakura03 · 27/11/2017 03:44

Thank you @Jellybean, @Sleepycat and @WhoAteAllthePercyPigs, Sudocrem or Bepanthem it is then. On feed #2 after 2 hrs sleep.

Sorry to hear your lo has a cold @WhoAteAllthePercyPigs
