I've never swaddled either of mine, I wouldn't know how to? I've always just used cellular blankets on them and added an extra blanket if it was cold.

GingerHanna · 24/11/2017 02:20

@theotherendofthesockportal You count from due date for developmental cycles so she’s really just one week old! Therefore cluster feeding could be what’s happening? Mine cluster feeds from 4-9am.

GingerHanna · 24/11/2017 02:22

My hopes of a second long sleep were dashed when he started crying at 3am. He was still asleep so I did try and just soothe him through it but after a while realised that wasn’t going to work. Grrrrr.

Giving some time on the boob before going to the bottle as if I’m honest I miss the contact when I just bottle feed expressed milk, even if it is quicker!

Jellybean2017 · 24/11/2017 02:27

I had three hours sleep earlier. DH brought DS back.at 23:45. Annoyingly I have been laying here awake since and just accidentally woke DS when I had some water. Sooo feed number 2. Irritatingly DS was still asleep when DH brought him back to me. This may have been the night he slept for more than three hours... Alas we will never know! Doubtful he would have anyway 😂 we have a visit from health visitor today. Going to ask for her advice on naps!!!

I thought she'd gone to sleep nice and quickly earlier but no...wide awake and screaming 20 mins later and with the most horrific dirty nappy. My singing isn't going down well tonight either.

Meepmoop · 24/11/2017 02:40

Still awake here!

DH has done his best to help so I can sleep but I’m such a light sleeper I can hear them downstairs. I’ve taken DS back as one of us may as well get some sleep and he can sleep through most things

HashtagTired · 24/11/2017 03:04

@GimbleInTheWabe too cute!😍

HashtagTired · 24/11/2017 03:06

@theotherendofthesockportal according to wonder weeks, development stages start from due date not birth date. So technically your lo would be 1 week?

HashtagTired · 24/11/2017 03:09

@Halfdrankbrew I couldn’t parent even 20 years ago I’d be so very bored without my iPhone! And then what would dd do (she’s now 5) at those troublesome moments I need her to be distracted? What? No iPad?? 😱

HashtagTired · 24/11/2017 03:12

@Sakura03 sleeping bags all the way here! He’s in a baby grow and 2.5 tog bag. Works a treat 👌 it means he stays cuddly warm during feeds and when I put him down it’s not on cold sheets.

HashtagTired · 24/11/2017 03:19

I had all of 2 .5 hours sleep last night and wasn’t able to rest in the day. Went to bed st 8pm and dh brought ds up at midnight in his Moses. Ds has slept since then so I’ve had a good bit of sleep. Ive woken up to my boobs being rock hard and now secretly wanting ds to wake for a feed. He’s not going to know what’s hit him when he does! He’s got to sort out both boobs for me 😂

But he’s still sleeping .... a 3 hours stretch? Just unheard of these days!!! But he’s still going strong.

Meanwhile I feel like I’ve been punched in both cheeks, my sinuses are all clogged with goo. Feeling groggy.

So lying here whilst ds sleeps his first mamouth stretch with my boobs rock hard, I’m wide awake and can’t roll over for fear of leakage on the bed.

All very glam.

HashtagTired · 24/11/2017 03:24

I have a madela swing too. I think it’s great. Can be plug or battery.

Can’t remember who was asking but I combi feed. Mostly BF but one bottle of FF given by dh around 8pm so I can sleep on my own for a few hours.

Laurawakey14 · 24/11/2017 03:29

Morning All! Welcome newbies.

Missed a lot of chat as changed phones and forgot my password. Sitting here waiting for DS to go to sleep after 2nd feed (only an hour after he settled for 1st one grr).

@sakura We swaddle. Bought a swaddle wrap with Velcro for DD but she never took to it. Having more success with DS although I'm not keen on it. So annoying the conflicting advice you get! The hospital were very keen on it and as that included doctors then I'll go with that.

DS had been screamy all day. This evening I put a dummy in his mouth and he was sucking away. Now I know I'm not supposed to until he's 4 weeks (he's 3 weeks). But I'm conflicted if I should do it at all. I know it may help.him slerp better, but I hear about babies waking constantly needing their dummy reinserted! And I don't want to create more habits. What 're your thoughts on dummies?

WhoAteAllthePercyPigs · 24/11/2017 03:54

@otherendofthesockportal is it just me or is the knowledge that we're not even at newborn stage (well you are now) with our preemies rather depressing?? Feels like it's prolonged...

anotherexhaustedpigeon · 24/11/2017 04:08

Ah I truly have found my people 😊

We are up for first feed - Dd went down at 8, DH got lucky indeed (sorry TMI) and I got a quick snooze in before she woke for a quick feed at 10. So I've had at least 5 hours already and there's potential for more - - happy Friday to me! Being able to express A bottle for a night feed has really made a difference. @AMagdalena I also forked out for an electric pump, the Haakaa is just £15 from amazon and means I can keep it in bed as it's silent.

@Sakura03 I couldn't be arsed with the swaddle - DD always managed to kick it off somehow, but we do use a sleeping bag. We got one from MORI (rip-off I know) but it has popper on the armhole so can become a swaddlebag type thing. It is great, no cold sheets at you can kind of lift up the bag to move them Blush

@WhoAteAllthePercyPigs I caved on the dummy front bang on 4 weeks and then DDs weight started to drop so had to really cut back on it. Now we use it in emergencies where there's no boob or bottle available and seems to be ok like that - she hasn't become dependent on it to sleep (yet)

Going to try to put dd back down now, any chance she'll sleep til 8???

Feed #1
He’s just gone at least 4hours?!!! I haven’t, but that’s just typical. He’s never done a stretch that long at night before.

Could be down to a number of things:

  1. He was feeding what felt like hourly in the day
  2. His cold has knocked him out
  3. He had 2 formula feeds before this stretch, 8pm and 11pm.
  4. He took pity in my sorry-ass state today and thought I needed the extra sleep.
  5. Combination of the above.
  6. None of the above.

I spend too much of my life these days trying to work out the pattern, when actually, it’s just completely random!

Anyway, I need to get up in a couple of hours to finish off the house in time for our short weekend break away. Canny wait!

Oh no, he’s finished feeding already....he has another boob to decant yet 😕 ....

Sakura03 · 24/11/2017 04:17

Feed #2 here we go after a 2 hours sleep. Ds us soaked, this has happened a few times today (yesterday) not sure what's going on....
Thanks to everyone who has commented on swaddling and expressing. I do have a sleeping bag ready for him but it's too big .at the moment..

Ceesadoo · 24/11/2017 04:20

Amazing news Hashtag.

My son did a 4 he stretch tonight too but will not go back to his crib now. It's been 2 hours of trying. I refuse to cosleep til the early hours otherwise it's too uncomfortable too long haha.

HashtagTired · 24/11/2017 04:24

Haha Ceesadoo, in the same about cosleeping. I’ll allow it after 5am (I normally have to get up at 7am).

HashtagTired · 24/11/2017 04:26

Ds was asleep in my arms and then I had a snotty sneezing fit. To be fair he’s gone back to sleep quickly but I really need to blow my nose now. Like properly empty it.

I’m so snotty. I’m surrounded by screwed up tissues in bed.

HashtagTired · 24/11/2017 04:27

Oh dear.

That moment when you sneeze and you feel something leave your mouth but you don’t know where it went.... 😶

HashtagTired · 24/11/2017 04:28

I’ve just done a quit check of ds and I’m fairly certain it didn’t land on him...👌

Ceesadoo · 24/11/2017 04:30

@AMagdalena My friend's FF Baby was sleeping through for 11 hours from about 3 months. A dream we can only imagine. I tell myself that at least I don't have to sterilise bottles as consolation 😐

HashtagTired · 24/11/2017 04:31

Oooh. My new headphones 🎧 arrived today. Very nice. Can’t bring myself to wear them in front of dh in case he sees them and asks me how much they were 🙊
