My little boy is nine days old. He sleeps pretty well during the day but at night just wants to be held and breastfed. He doesn't settle in his moses basket at night (but he will quite often do so during the day)

Anyone else up doing the same?! I'm not keen on the idea of co-sleeping but would be grateful for any advice. Baby sleeps in a gro-snug and we have a dream sheep but I'm guessing this frequent feeding and love of cuddles in the night is probably just par for the course at this early stage? 😊 I am napping during the day so I'm probably averaging about 6 hrs sleep in a 24 hr period.

My LO hasn’t even noticed that he’s been upgraded from a Moses basket to a snuzpod 😂

And after my talk of winding earlier of course he woke himself up pumping at 7.30 and needed his dummy to settle again.

Is infacol better than gripe water? Was going to invest.....

NinaMarieP · 08/11/2017 08:41

I haven’t tried gripe water but infacol generally works for us. Gripe water is from one month and I was looking for something before then and so infacol it was, and didn’t want to risk upsetting anything by changing it.

Jellybabie3 · 08/11/2017 08:46

Ah ok thanks

Lovingtyrells · 08/11/2017 09:07

@HashtagTired he laughs at me in the mornings for being the idiot to insist on buying it ! Hoping I can laugh about all this soon.

Lovingtyrells · 08/11/2017 09:11

@Jellybabie3 wow that sounds like really good progress especially since your DS is so young.
I tried gripe water and it did really
Get the wind going, think infacol is more for “colic” ? And has sugar in, but I’m no expert. Worth trying anything really I reckon it won’t hurt.

@NinaMarieP mine also has no clue I spent so much on the bloody sleepyhead which he also only will tolerate for about 5mins Shock

sleepycat13 · 08/11/2017 10:11

@Jellybabie3 we have been using infancol and dentinox from about 2 weeks with little benefit. tried gripe water for first time yesterday as now 5 weeks and (I don't want to speak too soon but...) it seems to have made a difference.

@HashtagTired tried to resist picking up for grunty baby for the first last night (sometimes he even cries in his sleep) and on one occasion I think it actually worked as I think I fell back asleep and he obviously did too.

woke a total of 4 times last night and although one of those was for over an hour that still feels like a good night for me!

Jellybabie3 · 08/11/2017 10:35

Managed to put ds down awake about 4am. He whimpered and i held his hand with ewan on and fell asleep. Was beautiful!! Woke dh up to see. But dont worry. Tonight i will be booing as ds stays awake 11pm til 5am!!! Haha.

For us we reluctantly splashed out on the sleepyhead and sidecot which was sad because we have a beautiful moses basket. We also decided to put ds on his side. Best decision ever it turns out as hes been SO much better. Just gotta work out this crackly chest now

Jellybabie3 · 08/11/2017 10:36

Looks like gripe water might be the way to go

Lallypopstick · 08/11/2017 12:22

Nothing worse than when the baby fills his nappy at half 5 and you can’t just ignore it! Save it for at least another hour!

HashtagTired · 08/11/2017 17:58

@Jellybabie3 I’m still waiting for ds to do his weekly poo...🙈

HashtagTired · 08/11/2017 18:00

@Lovingtyrells hopefully you can keep it for your next one, or sell it on 😬

HashtagTired · 08/11/2017 18:02

Haha @Lallypopstick

I’d just be grateful for a poo here! He’s overdue! 😬

Jellybabie3 · 08/11/2017 18:10

Grin gonna be a good one hashtag I'd take weekly....mines explosive around 4 x a day. Usually when hes just drifting off Angry

NinaMarieP · 08/11/2017 18:39

We get at least 1-2 a day. If it gets to 24 hours I start to worry! (Mostly because the next one will be huuge!)

Ohb0llocks · 08/11/2017 20:22

Is Ewan worth a buy?

Jellybabie3 · 08/11/2017 22:25

Ewan is my saviour Grin if ds is almost asleep but scarily close to also being awake ewan sorts him out Smile

Anyone else at this stage (1month) feel like they nurse ALL DAY. Just occured to me as i love my baby cuddles that if ds isnt asleep he wants feeding so defo doesnt comply with the every 2-3hours in the day time. If i am lucky we get 10-15min playtime before he wants boob before the next nap which can be 10 mins or 3 hours (but not on his own Angry). He will go longer if dh distracts him but if hes near me hes all about the boob. I know he does comfort feed to some extent - should i be kicking that now? Albeit 90% of the time i can see him and hear him actively swallowing. Latch has been checked by midwife albeit weeks ago and was fine. Shouldn't he be toning down the persistence by now??

Jellybean2017 · 08/11/2017 23:41

We didn't find Ewan much use at all sadly. But the Sound Sleeper app is quite good for white noise.

Jellybabie3 my DS (13 weeks) still feeds very frequently, sometimes much more than every two hours. Some of it is comfort feeding which is still important. Think you just need to go with it 😊

Also have a look at the wonder weeks app, quite useful/interesting information re.. Baby development.

Had a weird evening with my DS. He had a few long naps today in the day and then fed every hour from 5-8. At the 8 I clock feed he did a massive vom (even came out his nose poor thing) and then afterwards he fed for over an hour! He usually feeds in 10 mins max so this was very out of character. He’s been on and off since then and very alert but he’s just drifted off. Hoping he’ll sleep for hours now but we’ll see. He’s just getting over a cold so I think the vom is down to getting rid of all the mucus as I could see bits of it in his sick. Feel sorry for the ladies whose babies feed for hours and hours on end as my nipples were stinging after an hour of suction!
Anyway, fx for a v sleepy baby who gives me a nice 4 hr stretch of sleep.

sleepycat13 · 09/11/2017 02:42

@Jellybabie3 my DS is just short of 6 weeks old and feeds constantly too. started around the 2 week mark. literally wouldn't go 10 mins between feeds for most of the day and would wake every 45 mins to and hour at night. got him checked by health visitor and latch etc all good. he was also gaining weight really well after being smaller at birth than expected. health visitor assured me it would settle down in a week or so. it continued for 3 weeks. he still feeds lots but I think we now might be just starting to turn a corner (fingers crossed) as he will now have brief periods of play/interaction when awake and is taking slightly longer naps too. it's hard. but i found takinging each day or sometimes each feed as it comes helped me keep going and expressing has also been a life saver. I don't do loads but just having the option for husband to give a bottle a day when I just can't face another feed has helped me keep going.

talking of turning a corner. we have made a 4.5 hour stretch before the first night feed. best yet!

HashtagTired · 09/11/2017 02:56

@Ohb0llocks Ewan is worth it in this house!

HashtagTired · 09/11/2017 03:03

@Jellybabie3 I’d choose to go with it too. I’m told you can’t overfeed a breastfed baby and he is still very young.
I agree with pp. take a look at the wonderweeks. Sometimes makes a lot of sense. Babies go through development stages and are known to be more restless during this time.
My ds is 9 weeks now and he is only starting to be more awake and aware now. All babies are of course different but in only just beginning to get some play time with him in the mornings and only for 30 mins before he gets tired and needs to sleep again.
My ds cluster feeds in the evenings. Seemingly attached to me between 5pm and 7-8pm which is lovely, but slightly inconvenient as it’s tea time at 5 and dd bed time at 7. Yeah, it might be comfort feeding to some extent, but I’m fairly relaxed about that. At this young stage I’m not worried about ‘ bad habits’ yet.

Jellybabie3 · 09/11/2017 04:25

Thanks all. Happy to go with i just wanted go check it was 'normal'. As i say, everything says 2-3 hours and 7-10feeds at this age. In my mind it can be half and double that.

Fuming tonight as had dh home yesterday to 'help'. The result is he played with ds all afternoon despite me telling him he had to nap. Ive now been up dealing with an overtired baby and consequently me screaming at dh. We had a lovely little routine (albeit ad hoc but i know he needa to sleep) i am now effin knackered and p'd off while dh snores next to me Angry

HashtagTired · 09/11/2017 04:31

Oh @Jellybabie3 that sounds crap 😔
Hopefully you don’t have much planned today and you can cuddle dc in the sofa.
At this age, I very much go by the phrase that was shared with me when my eldest was his age. “Sleep breeds sleep”. I stand by it for ds too.

Ds has woken me after 1.5 hours. So barely 30 mins sleep 😩
I think wind (his, not mother earths) woke him. We are now lying next to each other in bed and he’s cooing at me. Love him! (But yes I’m v v v tired).
