Shiny new thread (saw your post Bikebug

Not been on for a while as we've been a house full of colds and having new heating installed (the warmth is bliss) so DS has been sleeping in with me again as he couldn't breathe
Progress has still been made though as I've only been bringing him in from about 11ish(because I'm lazy)and he's been waking coughing during the evening but managing to resettle himself quite a lot.

I really think we're getting there (though it maybe his age too )

How's everyone else doing?

dwb!we wont leave you-shall we stay here anyway!i just felt uncomfortable posting that i was trying other methods such as pu/pd because i didnt know whether id be looked on as being cruel because i suppose in a way it is a form of cc as hes crying but im there picking him up and laying him back down(is that form of cc?its all so confusing,i thought that cc was crying until they were sick which i cant see me doing).

Hi,

Am trying the NCSS to get DS to sleep better - he's nearly 4 months old but still waking lots at night. At one stage he started waking only 2-3 times but now he's back to waking every 1.5-2 hours .

Having re-read the book, am trying to get daytime naps sorted as he will only nap well when out in the buggy. Any tips for getting them to sleep in the cot? For some reason, he will nap in the cot in the morning but then refuses until he goes down to sleep at about 7pm.

Other than that, trying to pull him off the breast before he goes to sleep and putting him down sleepy - the latter is pretty difficult at the moment as we've mved him into a cot and as soon as his head touches the mattress he opens his eyes and yells

cruisemum1 · 22/01/2007 09:10

swizzler - my ds would only nap in car or buggy. it was affecting my confidence as i thought surely as the mummy i should be able to do this! i felt guilty that his sleep cue was to get his winter gear on and go outside - it seemed ridiculous and unfair . last week i put him in his cot for a nap (again) and he yelled for abt 15 mins on and off (not crying as such - just complaining) then went to sleep! He did only nap for 40 mins but at least he was comfy and warm. the 2nd time he grizzled for 2 mins. he has napped in his cot over the w/e too despite grizzling first so he is getting the message. he doesnt nap long but i hope that will come in time. re: the night time pulloff thing. it hasn't worked for me but i do put him in his cot as soon as i feel he has stopped sucking hard iykwim(?) he may open his eyes a bit but generally he goes back to sleep. it hasnt made him wake any less but he is awake for less time. it's hard isn't it?

kittypants · 22/01/2007 10:38

cruisemum1 · 24/01/2007 16:10

kitty - sorry to hear your euphoria was short lived. Kinda makes it more frustrating when you know they can do it doesn't it.

kittypants · 25/01/2007 14:04

lastnight was only 3 times!!!and he went to sleep with no bottle, when he woke the first time i tried a dummy which worked but after that didnt and i was to tired so gave him milk-bad start!

cruisemum1 · 25/01/2007 15:14

keep with it Kitty. You are breaking the back of it. well done!

kittypants · 26/01/2007 10:26

well, lastnight tried pu/pd.with no feeds either.took 20 minutes for him to go to sleep atfirst but wasnt as bad as i thought-didnt feel cruel.then he slept till 2am so same again but not for so long(no clock!),then 3am just hand on back whispering ssshh its ok youre just going to sleep, its sleepy time, took about 5 minutes, then same at 5am then up for day at 5.45am which i thought was fair enough for first night with no milk !im really happy i chose to try this,i had my doubts but as i said,no as bad as i thought would be!we'll see what tonight brings!

tibsy · 26/01/2007 11:19

hi there. new to the thread and found it v interesting and reassuring that i'm not only one. dd goes down between 6.30-7.30 sparko but has been waking hourly after that for reassurance. last night she woke at 9 and it took 2 hours to settle her. every time i or dp put her down, wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh tried not to bf to sleep or bring her in with us but ended up doing both, lay on side. was desperate!

kittypants · 26/01/2007 11:22

tibsy how old is your dd?

tibsy · 26/01/2007 11:49

5 mths. she's not a good napper either, will go down for 30 mins tops at a time. has about 1 1/2 hrs a day at mo and cranky with it!!

cruisemum1 · 26/01/2007 12:54

welcome tibsy! kitty. I am currently weaning ds from bf to ff and intend to maek the nighttime feed the last to go. Was it hard for yourloto adjust to being fully ff and only having bottle at night? My ds really screams if he want something! Ihate to hear him so distressed and I can see myself just giving in in the dead ofnight and getting my boobs out ,

kittypants · 26/01/2007 14:14

my lo has been formula feed since 5 weeks.he was poorly so wouldnt feed so i expressed for 5 weeks and stupid hv who should have offered support said give up so i did!

cruisemum1 · 26/01/2007 15:28

oh i didn't realise. sorry!

kittypants · 26/01/2007 16:35

thats ok!must be harder for you weaning off breast, atleast i can leave bottles down stairs!

cruisemum1 · 27/01/2007 17:01

has ANYONE had success with pantley pull off thing?

Swizzler · 28/01/2007 18:20

I try and pull DS off before he falls asleep - I do wait until he's v sleepy though. Not sure that it's had any effect. Teething at the moment, so nights a bit of a nightmare

cruisemum1 · 28/01/2007 21:23

swizzler - I think it is a load of crap! I do try it though in the vain hope that it works.
