Anther one just back! Excellent conditions last week in the 3 valleys- one day was misty/light sleet, the other days sunshine and well-groomed pistes with lots of snow on.

Iamblossom · 22/02/2016 11:01

We are back too. Sad had a brilliant week in Tignes, snowed like mad on arrival day and our first day then 4 days of sun and blue skies, then snowed again on Friday. Awesome conditions.

Arrival day was wearying, coach was far too hot, and a few delays, but journey back was really good, the usual queueing at Chambery but really straightforward.

DS1 had his first week of snowboarding and found it harder than he expected I think, but really enjoyed it.

Ludo app on the ipad was this week's evening hit. Who knew Ludo could be so noisy?

My new system is to take washing baskets to the car and fill them up and deal with them and then bring empty cases in, fill them with clean skiing clothes and put them straight up into the loft, rather than bring all the cases into the house and trip over them until they are dealt with. Much less stressful, particularly as I had washing to do from before we left first!. On load number 5 as we speak....

lovetoskimum · 22/02/2016 11:47

Loving everybody's posts :)

Puffy, hope you are doing ok and knee wasn't too bad in the end, thanks for info on fines, she will be missing 6 days as driving on the Friday, oh well never mind, we will just pay it anyway.

sweary, hope you are having a good week, what's your conditions like ??

constantly checking webcams and looking good at the moment :)

Clam, glad you had a good time, yes know what you mean Washing !!!

Don't, same here two weeks to go :)

Iamblossom, glad you had a good time too, going to have a look at the Ludo app !! Liking your washing system may have to try that when we are back, although it is only 3 of us, :)

Keep them coming :)

oh yes puffy sorry, forgot to offer my sympathy, I hope you're not in too much pain. gutting for you. Sad

puffylovett · 22/02/2016 15:49

Ruptured cruciate ligament, gutted :( waiting on an Mri scan to confirm but knee is very wobbly so it's looking that way! I'm already fully weight bearing and walking properly though, so hopefully a quick recovery? I need stories of skiing with no ACL! Or stories of quick repair!
The good old nhs had better sort me out quick as i'm already planning next years trip Grin 1 good run did not scratch a very itchy itch!!!

I can't scroll up to find the name of the lady who wanted to know about puy but it got a big thumbs up from all our party - although the steep blue down to 1400 and red to 1800 were getting icy as we left, the rest of the resort was apparently fab, my kids loved the little runs in and out of the trees on the long green (Chemin). We've decided to stay at 1400 or 1600 if we go back again, it was nice being ski in/out but we felt it would suit us better to be further down the mountain. I can't really give any more than that as all I saw was the inside of our apartment!!
Ooh, the Mountain restaurants were reasonably priced apparently. Friends had a couple of great ski lesson with Tom.. Snow was fab and I think more is due soon..
It was a bugger to get to, in bad snow conditions, and it took us 24hrs to get home but that was mostly due to me booking the ferry return journey on the wrong day .. Oops!!!

So jealous of everyone else's upcoming trips! Roll on next year! Hope you all have stacks of fun and WEAR KNEE BRACES Grin

puffylovett · 22/02/2016 15:53

Beautifully groomed piste, early in the morning while having cafe au lait and croissants in a little cafe :)

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 22/02/2016 17:06

Where are you off to lovetoski? We're off to Coumayeur, a girls trip, so quite excited not to have to be responsible for anyone other than me!

bettys · 22/02/2016 18:11

Hi puffylovett, sorry to hear of your ACL rupture. It happened to me about 20 years ago (I can still remember the popping noise) and I've been skiing nearly every year since so don't worry, it shouldn't stop you!

I didn't have reconstructive surgery, partly because I have fairly sturdy legs and also I was freelance at the time so couldn't afford the time off. I now ski with a brace, and if I remember and have time do cycling or other muscle strengthening exercises before a trip. Having said that I did bugger all exercise before last week's trip to Les Gets and I was fine, though my legs got a bit tired and I find my ACL knee aches a little on ski lifts.

bettys · 22/02/2016 18:22

From Les Gets (well actually halfway down a piste at a vin chaud stop) looking towards Mont Chery

Happy Skiing Thread Part 2!!
VivaVegas · 22/02/2016 20:50

Ah, enjoyed a week on Les Gets a few years ago, loved Mont Chery, was so quiet and a fab restaurant up there if my memory serves me right!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/02/2016 22:07

Oh puffy.

My DH ruptured his ACL in a very low speed fall in December. He's currently having physiotherapist to see if surgery can be avoided. He might get away without it and be able to ski next year in a brace or he might not and skiing next year would be less likely - possibly at the end of the season but we tend to go early so it's unlikely. Also his fall wa on soft, slightly slushy snow so I'd be weary of him going towards the end of the season.

Keep us posted.

User543212345 · 23/02/2016 07:02

puffy you poor thing. I've not had any experience with ACL rupture but always remember that the first All Blacks squad to win the World Cup only had half their squad with intact ACLs. I did my MCL about a decade ago and am pretty fine now - there's only a slight weakness there. I did a lot of Physio and have done a lot of weight training as the muscles that cross your knee (quads, hams, calf) are big strong muscles and can be strengthened to stabilise the joint if the ligaments are weak.

It's quite springlike in St Anton this week so far, though we are promised snow later in the week. Yesterday morning was spent on ice and the afternoon on slush and really rucked up runs. After getting too excited on the chalet wine on the first night (as ever) I bailed at 3.15ish and came home for a naprés. Hoping I've got more energy today as I stayed sober last night in the hope of decent sleep which still didn't come

We're off to Lech today to see how the other half ski Grin

User543212345 · 23/02/2016 18:09

Double posting - sorry! There were blue skies this morning and then it decided to chuck down with snow, blow a gale and generally be really rather cold. Obviously the snow is a good thing, but unfortunately the freeze line is quite high so it's raining in resort.

Photos attached for you to see our misery. Though a bad day on the mountain is still great and infinitely better than a day anywhere else!

I have just had the most amazing 60cm by 30cm gloss finished poster collage of our skiing photos over the years delivered by Snapfish, £23.99, highly recommend, it is ace. Grin

Goatcoat · 26/02/2016 15:09

Right, might be able to escape for a week's skiing in March. It will be the first time for the DC (nearly 2 and 4). Snowbizz is coming up at approx. £2800 - that sound about right?? Will Puy St Vincent still have snow then?

User543212345 · 26/02/2016 17:49

I'd hold out and see how the next few weeks go goatcoat - the weather is mad in the Alps at the moment and it's very freeze/thaw as you'd expect much later in the season. One of the guides told me that because the ground didn't freeze before the first snow fell (there was no cold snap in November/early December) it is melting the snow from below as well as the sun melting it from above. This may be bollocks, but I've never skied on slush in February before!

The weather here is mad - Monday, Wednesday and today have been blue skies and beautiful; Tuesday and Thursday were honking it down with snow. That said, the best day skiing was definitely Thursday. Vis was poor, it was cold and wet but fresh snow is amazing - and it seemed to keep most other people off the slopes!

MrsGuyOfGisbo · 26/02/2016 18:32

Another one here watching the forecasts! Had an unexpectedly good week skiing at half term, planning to sneak in a few days in March before school hols if I can but will depend on the snowfall and temps over the next two weeks.

trixymalixy · 27/02/2016 20:53

We were at the Nevis Range today. The weather was amazing and no queues!!

We're back after a super week - 4 days of sunshine and 2 of snow, giving pretty decent powder. Hurrah. We got home around 2 hours ago and I just caught DH looking at another trip in April. I think he's obsessed Grin

lovetoskimum · 29/02/2016 13:42

Iamblossom, that sounds fab, picture please :)

Sweary, glad you had a good week, now on final countdown, 4 sleeps to go, omg think i am going to burst !!

Trixy, great pics :)

Cant keep off webcams :)

Puffy.. Sorry to hear about your knee. In terms of good news stories My DH has snowboarded with 2 ruptured ACLs so it is doable. That's with heavy duty Don Joy braces. He is due to go in for reconstruction though. Interestingly lots of people with ACL ruptures find boarding kinder on the knees. Would that be an option?

massistar · 29/02/2016 14:45

Oh and our half term break in Austria was superb! Amazing powder conditions all week.. The snow just kept falling. I've never had so much fun in my life, it was like floating over little fluffy clouds on my new pink and leopard print board Grin.

The children were on slopes by 930 to catch a couple of runs before ski school for my youngest and were begging to ski the black run back to the village at 430 pm.

Don't think I can wait till next year!!

clam · 05/03/2016 21:00

Anyone travelling today? Just seen the FB pages for "our" resorts in the Southern Alps (Risoul/Vars etc) and there's been a massive dump of snow and all sorts of problems on the roads. Don't know if it's similar further North.

PestoSkiissimos · 05/03/2016 21:08

Not yet, still another 3 weeks to go until we get our fix

standingonlego · 05/03/2016 23:31

At last....ski day is tomorrow!!!!
