We are going to Puy St Vincent in February. Went last year with 4yo DD, who absolutely loved it.

Booked for the week after half term. There is an inset day that week, so she will only miss 4 days of school. Haven't confessed to school yet.

Trickydecision · 03/11/2015 14:06

Half term prices are insane, the pistes are crowded, queues endless and 100 kids in one ski school class. Good luck to all taker-outers.

eleven59 · 03/11/2015 16:59

Yorkshire are you going with SnowBizz?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/11/2015 21:02

We're taker outers!

Last year was the first time that our week in the snow wasn't authorised. We heard nothing more and both achieved attendance above 96% at the end of the year so we're taking them again this year.

The comprehensive school that they will be attending runs their week long ski trip during term time and that obviously doesn't involve all of the kids so if it's ok for them at comp. age then it's ok for us in primary!

Trickydecision · 03/11/2015 22:14

Yes, Much and I reckon that would be a good defence if the L A were daft enough to take you to court.

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 04/11/2015 12:16

We are going with Snowbizz, eleven. Went last year (no taking out issues, DD was at pre-school then). The whole set up really suits us for now. DD had a wonderful time and I am confident that she will manage the transition from Totons to regular ski school (and I know she can go back to Totons if she doesn't).

Really looking forward to it. Going the week after half term will save PS1500. That's the difference between going or not for us. I have absolutely no doubt that it's the best thing for DD and us as a family. I don't want to cause unnecessary additional work or angst for the school (which is an argument oft presented against term time holidays) but i think the benefits far outweigh any potential disadvantage. Just not sure when / how I ought to inform the school. We had parents evening the week before half term, I probably should have mentioned it then.

lovetoskimum · 04/11/2015 14:27

Muchtoo and Yorkshire, glad your on my side with taking out !!!

The only way we can afford it and yes a great family experience, our daughter loves it and hubby is so happy that she can ski with us, what fun to be had on a slope great family holidays :)

Had parents eve last night, still didn't fess up !!! Got a few months yet !!

I can't take my kids out of school as I am also a teacher! Shame. It's half term for us, vallandry for the first time. It wasn't too expensive, easy jet flights and local apartment. Also other costs are the same. Not looking forward to the crowds but we are excited already.

eleven59 · 04/11/2015 20:15

Yorkshire we've been with Snowbizz a few times during term time. A great set up for young kids and I could argue for hours about the educational benefits of skiing!

CaurnieBred · 05/11/2015 13:14

Going to St Anton first week of Feb - DH's choice. I am a bit apprehensive about the challenging runs though. Will be our last time with Esprit as can't afford tour operator in half term, which is when we will have to go once DD is at secondary.

namechangedtoday15 · 05/11/2015 13:22

Going to Cervinia in...... just over 6 weeks Grin. Fly out on 21st December. There for Christmas . Just a tad excited Grin

First time with children (10, 10 and 6). They've had 12 hours of lessons so far at local snow dome and they're AMAZING - have really taken to it.

Just praying for decent snow although we purposely chose the resort for its altitude - should be snow sure but you never know!

User543212345 · 05/11/2015 14:00

Caurnie St Anton isn't super challenging, though can be a bit technical in places. If you're after cruisy blues/reds get yourself over to Lech on the bus. There's miles and miles of them! We were there for the same week last year and it was superb!

Trickydecision · 05/11/2015 22:23

Lech is wonderful! Beautifully groomed runs so that the rich and famous look like good skiers even if they are not. OK for the odd visit from St Anton, but I would not enjoy a daily trek over there.
My problem with St Anton is that there is very little genuinely ski in ski out accommodation, and at my time of life that is a priority.

zc · 07/11/2015 20:46

Reading this enviously as we have yet to book, but hoping to go 1st week of Easter hols not sure where yet so would welcome any recommendations for somewhere snow sure. Also we want to fly so probably means a package as have missed cheaper flight prices, also had a stressful start to our trip last year with a no-show from the taxi booked for the transfer so all-in makes it easier. Please suggest any companies / resorts that may suit (2 kids 10 & 13 & both competent skiers - similar to other posters we are now struggling to keep up!)
Thanks

User543212345 · 07/11/2015 21:02

Easter is really early this year so I'm sure pretty much anywhere will work zc

We went to La Rosiere a few years ago for the last week in March and it was glorious. Spent most of the time skiing in La Thuile though - the link has a looooooong button lift so is a pain if any of you are boarders - as the slopes were longer and quieter. Lots of decent reds and a few short, sharp blacks over there which we played on all week. It got a bit mushy by mid afternoon but I think everywhere is like that by later in the season.

I expect we'll head back to St Anton for a late week this year. Love it there.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/11/2015 22:12

No suggestions - we're had in got warmer climes to celebrate my 40th at the end of this ski season but a word of warning - I've just seen that a website called Chalet Hunters has been conning people out of money - advertising chalets under different names then taking money from people and supposedly paying the chalet firms but keeping it all and no bookings being made.
Remember to book direct with the chalet/tour operators.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/11/2015 22:13

That should say we're holidaying in warmer climes!

lachattequirit · 07/11/2015 23:44

We are going to PSV with snowbizz next year too. DS will be 3 and skiing for the first time. I'm really hoping he likes it - I'm struggling to find small enough ski gear for him. Smile

lovetoskimum · 09/11/2015 15:32

Wow loving the posts, I started this last year and it ended up as topic of the day :)

Namechange - how lucky to be going for Christmas, maybe one year for us !

lachatter - ski gear, littleskiers website and littletrekkers - really good quality or try decathalon.

Keep them coming :)

We're probably off to Courchevel 1650 first week of Easter hols - exactly the same as last year, because it was FAB - same apartment, self drive, taking Grandma (excellent for post (2 hour) ski lesson pick ups for DS, but this year he'll be in 4 hour lessons, so more relaxing for Grandma!).

The only reason I haven't booked yet is because finances are in a bit of a mess as DH and I finally decided to buy a postage-stamp sized ski apartment (not in Courchevel, too expensive, but just 20 mins drive away), so we can ski whenever we want. Hopefully we complete on the sale in January - sooooo excited. Can't wait to be there for New Year next year.

We've done PSV with Snowbizz in the past too - very well organised.

Love to hear where everyone is going Smile

Smartieskid · 09/11/2015 17:55

Quick tip when we where younger we where all given walki talkies in case we had to contact an adult saves on phone calls and for slightly younger kids it can be a god send hardly got used but at the age of 14 the adults used to ski down the the restaurant and watch us go up and down on our own as a group and it was definitely useful at times

Tirfarthoin · 09/11/2015 18:45

I got all the ski kit out of the loft to sort through last weekend. Now I am depressed because I am too fat for my salopettes Sad and DS1 at 15 has shot up so all his old kit is around his knees. Also DSS1 was burgled at uni and for some unfathomable reason all his ski gear was stolen Confused
This is going to cost me isn't it.

Tirfarthoin · 09/11/2015 18:46

I did find that we have three pairs of skis to sell though, silver linings.

lachattequirit · 09/11/2015 21:40

Thanks Lovetoskimum.
I bought a ski suit (jacket and separate pants that zip together) from decathlon last season (age 2) but they were enormous!! I'm hoping he'll have grown into them by March (tried them on him the other day and still way too big)
I found out about snowbizz from this forum - yet to hear anything negative about them. I'm ridiculously excited about seeing DS on skis. Grin
And love hearing where everyone else is going (and taking notes). When DS is at school I think we'll still take him in term time, for the quieter slopes as well as the cost.

massistar · 10/11/2015 12:47

lachattequirit Roll up the sleeves and waistband and he'll be fine. DC are just about to get 3rd season out of theirs due to buying big! It actually fits them this year! Grin
