We've deleted the Madeleine McCann thread

JustineMumsnet · 04/05/2009 22:34

Because had we deleted all the posts that were worthy of deletion contained within it we would have lost half a thread, and what remained would have made no sense.

We would like to remind folks that Mumsnet's central philosophy is to make parents' lives easier. The McCanns are parents, they haven't been found guilty of anything and they have lost a child. By all means discuss the issues around this tragic case but please don't attack them personally here.
Thanks,
MNHQ

probably wise!

Well said, Justine.

BitOfFun · 04/05/2009 22:36

Good- right decision!

Niftyblue · 04/05/2009 22:36

Good
Thanks

BecauseImWorthIt · 04/05/2009 22:37

Hurrah. And thank you. I was appalled by some of the stuff that was being posted on that thread.

Ashamed that I share this forum with some of those posters.

policywonk · 04/05/2009 22:38

Yes.

whomovedmychocolate · 04/05/2009 22:39

I believe the tabloids all have online forums for making weird unfounded assertions these days so no great loss if those folks who are so inclined bugger off over there!

Upwind · 04/05/2009 22:41

Great

GivePeasAChance · 04/05/2009 22:42

It is good it has been deleted. But it has also deleted a reminder of who the paricularly vile people are on here.

( there are certain occasions where I think holding grudges are particuarly valuable !)

AitchTwoOh · 04/05/2009 22:42

read some of it this morning and was abso-fucking-lutely horrified.

2shoes · 04/05/2009 22:43

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 04/05/2009 22:43

horridness best left unsaid kerry

Greensneeze · 04/05/2009 22:45

Good decision IMO

Apologies for some of my more strident posts (against other posters, not the parents)

BoysAreLikeDogs · 04/05/2009 22:45

Good decision MNHQ.

SnortyBartFast · 04/05/2009 22:52

don't read them, but surely they will crop up again??
will you just keep deleting?

scottishmummy · 04/05/2009 23:00

i reported it.vile and repugnant thread

scaredoflove · 04/05/2009 23:05

I wasn't on it but think its strange it had to go

The thread about the man who's children died when the buggy was swept to sea was much nastier and that was allowed to stay, i've seen many threads slagging off other parents being allowed to stay

Why are the McGann ones shut down at every opportunity?? (genuine question)

MrsMerryHenry · 04/05/2009 23:05

Well done, Justine. Very glad to hear it.

tinylittlekittens · 04/05/2009 23:07

Good. Well done.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/05/2009 23:07

It's McCann, and nobody on the thread about the child drowning suggested that the father had deliberately played a part in her death. And that's the difference.
