What’s going on with the weird MNHQ bumbling?

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/10/2026 19:24

A couple of threads have been bumped by MNHQ specifically @FlissMumsnetor whatever the naming convention is. It’s early on, contentious and therefore clickbaity stuff.

Is this a new thing? It’s weird and frankly seems manipulative. Are MNHQ at least checking if these bumped threads are legit posters, because one seemed very suss.

Oh is it? Where does it say that?

By framing it as 'anti-trans'.

Stillsoithink · 18/10/2026 16:38

Especially as it’s a Sunday so is HQ even formally working?

Oh okay. What should it have been?

I have seen them around other weekends but again, it’s random. Overtime? Don’t trust us to play nicely? Flicked the AI Bot switch and now deep in the laundry from last week?

See also the 12 October thread on Holidays: "Can't be bothered with longhaul when European Summer wins". Bumped by HebeMumsnet less than 90mins after the OP first posted.

In what way? Perhaps it is just anti 'talking about trans', which I would welcome. There are huge quantities of topics, events and other life experiences to discuss without that taking over all the sodding time, and I for one would be overjoyed if the trans debate didn't crowbar itself into every single corner of our existence.

Neutral phrasing, if they actually were neutral.

'No discussion of gender identiy and trans issues' doesn't take a side, 'no discussion of anti-trans issues' does. Especially when they don't mention 'anti-GC'.

Oh dear. Centreing the peen, I see. Oh well.

What's the peen?

I think the person inviting people to it has got it spot on given the reactions on this thread.

I think it’s just one person running it.

If I was in charge I’d have written “No trans debates or calorie shite or lists of what you do and don’t eat because a)you can do that elsewhere and b)I don’t want to spend all day fielding complaints” so she or he is doing better than I would.

Yes I was thinking that too.

If you’re going to bump anything, I would focus on relatively fast moving sections eg AIBU/chat/relationships, where some threads by people needing input from other people have just been missed, perhaps due to the timing or similar. Some sections it takes days and days for an unanswered thread to move off the first page.

I'm guess you're not invited? Nor am I but I wish I was your post shows why they're doing it!!

ThreeNewWords · 18/10/2026 17:32

It's ironic that all the discussion about whether or not it is ok to bans trans-related discussion is derailing this thread about a whole different issue. Someone was cheeky enough to slide into other people's DMs to push their own site. If you want to talk about that, do it in your DMs.

All of which kind of proves my point that the trans debate gets bloody everywhere!

Has anyone reported any of the Fliss posts and received a reply? I reported one, and I got a reply saying Fliss was genuine. I found this really very surprising, but perhaps staff really are actively bumping and commenting as real actual human beings??

TBH, this is only very slightly less weird than the AI alternative, given how left-field some of the MN posts are. I really feel that I have gone into the Matrix and Through the Looking Glass at the same time.

ETA: ... not to mention down a rabbit hole.

Voltorb · 18/10/2026 17:58

I got a reply saying Fliss was genuine.

She seemed genuine before the start of October but why they are suddenly repeated bumping threads with very non human like responses including on one which was later deleted is still an issue they need to respond to.

AngelDog · 18/10/2026 18:15

I've seen a couple of these. Bumped after 20-30 mins with no replies. To be honest, it makes me avoid commenting even if I might have been going to do so otherwise.

FallingfortheUnderdog · 18/10/2026 21:18

twolattes · 18/10/2026 15:52

Is it just an AI prompt that they have created so they can see now what posts haven’t got any replies and then bump to bumble which I like

Unanswered threads menu has been around for ever, they don't need AI for that.

I don't think it's unlikely that people already write like AI. I mean new technology has always sparked new language. Txtspk for example.

However. The tone is sooooo robotic and the timing is weird. I'm very much hoping tomorrow gets me an answer.

Fingers crossed HQ comes on to discuss the issue today.

ETA - when I replied to this thread it didn't appear back in active threads? Yesterday whenever anyone posted on it, it jumped back to the top?

Have I been misunderstanding how active works all this time?
