New or split board request ( republican board )

Dear mn it has become clear lately that it might be good if the royal family board could be split into royal chat and republican chat , it seems a lot of republicans don’t feel welcome and obviously other members are not enjoying having to field questions that are not the topic they are discussing.
I really believe that this would be a solution that could please everyone.

I would support this for the reason @jeffgoldblum has stated above.

So why would the republicans be on royal family board? Just to say how much they dont like them?
or do you mean a totally separate republican board?

Why are people be labelled republicans? Who are they? How do you know they are republicans...I have see one or two say they are but others have said they aren't but just because they have a different point of view or perspective they are being lumped into the same label.

Why are republicans being singled out with a new board? 🤔 Why is it even being called republicans?

The Royal family is a board that should as it does allow for people to comment on what they like or don't like about them. Or are we here to create echo chambers?

How about talk guidelines are enforced better every other board on this site manages to have people with different opinions co-exist on the same board.

I like the idea but do wonder how active it might be and (on further reflection) whether it might be used to 'redirect' republicans from general royal chat?

Are the Republicans not discussing the royal family?

Some kind of split between working and stay at home parents' boards

Surely it’s not as binary as ‘republicans’ and ‘royalists’? Are there not shades of opinion on RF matters, it’s not about being one camp or the other?

I could probably be classed as a republican but post on the Royal Boards and not in a negative way.

Well I should caveat that by saying except the HaM threads, as there isn’t much positive to say about them.

I had no idea it was a term used over here. But then I’m not interested in the Royals and don’t really pay attention to anything they do, so maybe that makes me a republican too 😬

Sometimes threads on the RF seem to become quite personal and unpleasant. There are obviously strong feelings, but it should be possible for an informed discussion?
I've been shocked by some basic ignorance, though, not knowing what a Constitutional Monarch is, or how the system works.
Mind you, Harry described himself as a "Prince of England" (sic) so the bar is very low!

It wouldn't matter where it sits some people won't be able to stay away when there has been the odd thread pop up in aibu you will see the same unpleasantness there too.

It doesn't stop people accessing those boards just because its in a different place.

Actually, you're right. One of the worst ones recently was about Kate's appearance, it was absolutely vile and some of the posts genuinely shocking. I don't suppose it's possible to stop all that (although I thought that thread should have been deleted).

I post on the RF board but can’t recall reading very many comments from posters saying they don’t feel welcome posting as Republicans. Surely MNHQ would want this request backed up by facts/numbers from the current RF before they’d consider the go ahead.

What a silly idea. Obviously 'republican' chat is going to be quite rude and unwelcome if you blunder into a thread about, I don't know, whether Kate's dress is nice, but you can start any thread you want for discussing serious matters about the abolition of monarchy in the uk.

Etiquette and commonsense should be enough, and when they fail it is because posters are caught up in social media madness (common across all of MN, whatever the issues), not because of board architecture. As a PP implies, more echo chambers will only entrench this madness

There's a wide spectrum of opinion on the Royal Family among posters on the RF board, and most posters interact very comfortably together.
Where that isn't the case, I'm not entirely sure that having a separate board is the answer, as it usually relates to individual posting behaviour.

If it were to be split, one poster has suggested a split that might work:
'The Monarchy: Past, present, future' for serious discussions about head of state issues.
'The Monarchy: Royal family chat' for the gossipy stuff which form the majority of the posts.

Would this be split into two though? The Harry and Meghan fans as in the lighthearted thread currently running about Meghan's birthday or the people who like to discuss the issues created by Harry eg the court cases? It gets too complicated.

Wish people would present information correctly. I set up the lighthearted h&m thread because if I posted in other threads that Iliked something they did or something deemed as positive it was a pile on and I got called a sussex squad member, a h&m fan, accused of being on their payroll and quite frankly it was unpleasant and drove me away from wanting to say anything else. So yes i created a safe space..that thread so others who I have also seen subjected to same unpleasantness could just share our opinions without accusations or being labelled just because I don't share the same view or the same opinion as them.

Why should anyone be subjected to that? And its not one comment it will be several in a row and then out comes the don't feed the pigeons comment which is used not because its a funny joke but weaponised to dehumanise posters because why else is that comment necessary and being on the receiving end of this its how I feel.
