New or split board request ( republican board )

jeffgoldblum · 06/08/2026 14:59

Dear mn it has become clear lately that it might be good if the royal family board could be split into royal chat and republican chat , it seems a lot of republicans don’t feel welcome and obviously other members are not enjoying having to field questions that are not the topic they are discussing.
I really believe that this would be a solution that could please everyone.

I have loads of boards hidden, so the threads don't come up in my active. Including Royals, FWR, and anything & everything to do with babies and childcare as I'm past all that.

Exactly you are using the system as designed for your interests.

simpsonthecat · 07/08/2026 12:29

Please note JeffG, it is only me who lightheartedly suggested seperating H&M threads and for them to be in a section on their own entitled Harry & Meghan.. You cannot say everyone says that.

Of course they are not going to be hidden! What I would like and what will happen, if anything, are poles apart.

You want a thread hidden and made difficult for others to find just because you don’t like it. You say you’d like that to happen but acknowledge it won’t.

There is nothing lighthearted about that.

That’s exactly what the function is there for. You tailor it to your own personal
preferences not anyone else’s.

Wish people would present information correctly. I set up the lighthearted h&m thread because if I posted in other threads that Iliked something they did or something deemed as positive it was a pile on and I got called a sussex squad member, a h&m fan, accused of being on their payroll and quite frankly it was unpleasant and drove me away from wanting to say anything else. So yes i created a safe space..that thread so others who I have also seen subjected to same unpleasantness could just share our opinions without accusations or being labelled just because I don't share the same view or the same opinion as them.

Why should anyone be subjected to that?

Just as I think Jeff is exaggerating the amount of republican posters shes suggested feel unwelcome on the current RF I think you are also exaggerating receiving the amount and kind of replies you’ve described above.

loveagift · 07/08/2026 13:30

There's a wide spectrum of opinion on the Royal Family among posters on the RF board, and most posters interact very comfortably together.

Where that isn't the case, I'm not entirely sure that having a separate board is the answer, as it usually relates to individual posting behaviour.

Do they? I think it’s probably the strangest spot on the internet, granted I’ve not scoured all of Reddit. People are so personally invested which I find utterly bizarre.

loveagift · 07/08/2026 13:41

savemydrawers · 07/08/2026 11:23

Would this be split into two though? The Harry and Meghan fans as in the lighthearted thread currently running about Meghan's birthday or the people who like to discuss the issues created by Harry eg the court cases? It gets too complicated.

I think all of it should be on there regardless so it’s clear to other users.

It shouldn’t be hidden of course. I think sometimes a thread comes up in active and the title isn’t necessarily clear that it’s only about H&M. A lot of posters don’t use MNs daily or all day so they wouldn’t necessarily be aware of what a thread would be about or what you should be posting about. I have clicked on a thread thinking it’s about everyone to do with the RF but it then becomes clearer it’s about H&M & posters wanting to discuss other things are chastised.

loveagift · 07/08/2026 13:47

I specifically remember a thread I was reading & @jeffgoldblumwas posting loads of Jeff Goldblum GIFs (I like him as an actor so I remember) but I genuinely didn’t even understand what the gifs meant and then other posters were replying to the gifs with emojis. I really don’t understand this board 😆😆

I pretty much avoid it now but if someone posts a thread about the RF in AIBU they tend to go the same way 🤷🏻‍♀️

You need to go onto “the unofficial draft guide to the rfb” and read through the pages of complaints! 🤷‍♀️

I’m sorry you feel chastised but given the attempted derailments that go on at times I think people can forget their manners when suggesting a thread needs to stay on topic and that if a poster wants to discuss a certain aspect of the RF they should perhaps start their own thread. Maybe new chapters of the H&M thread could have a description in its title of what the thread is about. Would that help do you think?

So one specific with a lot of complaints compared to very very few throughout the rest of the board.

Yes one thread that was full of complaints, that were agreed with over and over again! , over the course of several days non stop.

Was my post really confusing? Jeff is great but the point was the gif had seemingly no relevance to the discussion. I would understand if it did.

It would be like me randomly posting a gif of a gift because like my username I love them but what would be the point?

560 something posts and even if half of them contained what you’re claiming they do it’s still only a small amount of posters on the RF board. And I’m being generous with that figure as there’s also quite a bit of fluff in the posts that really couldn’t be taken into account.

Well you see …that is the point! , almost none of the gifs are relevant in any way but just for fun , so I obviously like Jeff gifs , others like ones they like and yes , you could post gift ones ! , it really isn’t any deeper or more complicated than that .

Anyway! , this is site stuff , not a generic chat thread , so I will leave it to its purpose, people either want the suggestion or they don’t, if enough people do , it’s a maybe, If they don’t it’s a no .

OP posts:
loveagift · 07/08/2026 14:14

@CariadDarlingI don’t even think I was chastised (I can’t remember) but others were. To me it was just a bit odd & very different to other threads/boards I have been on. It definitely put me off & it’s very hard to describe. Its like there was this list of rules & in-jokes but myself & other posters didn’t know what they were or what they meant. I can completely see why MNs started that thread.

I think it would be helpful to put in the title if a thread is about H&M particularly for new people.

@jeffgoldblumif you are posting them for fun then that’s an explanation. I am simply explaining that to an outsider it can be confusing.

adragoncalledaudrey · 07/08/2026 14:21

I often find if I don’t like the way a thread is, I pass by or add my opinion. You can gauge what it is about quickly and move on if it isn’t the subject matter you are expecting.

It really is that simple.

The boards will be what they will be. Some people have clearly been posting on there a while and will have their own way of communicating. If I ever feel like joining in I will. What is the worst that can happen?

I am a fairly recent poster and manage to navigate it fine.

adragoncalledaudrey · 07/08/2026 14:23

Have you ever asked anyone to explain anything? I think they would happily explain.

I ‘got’ the Jeff Goldblum gifs because of the user name. I don’t think there is anything more confusing to it than that.

IAmATorturedPoet · 07/08/2026 14:25

I think some posters are getting a bit hung up on this whole gif posting thing. If I don’t understand a gif I will either ask for the meaning or I ignore it.

That being said, all this talk of gifs is moving away from the original discussion point.

loveagift · 07/08/2026 14:32

It wasn’t one gif but lots & like I said it confused me. @adragoncalledaudreyI didn’t feel like I could ask so I just left the thread.

Either way Jeff’s explanation was sufficient.

Well I would disagree hence MNs starting a thread about the board.

adragoncalledaudrey · 07/08/2026 14:34

Fair enough if you don’t feel you can ask but that is not on the poster posting the gifs but on you.

It is an anonymous forum and I don’t think you would have been given a hard time if you had asked.
