Fake virus page taking over

WingsofRain · 07/07/2025 08:56

Twice in the past twelve hours I’ve had a fake virus page appear and take over my screen while reading posts on Mumsnet. Each time it was on AIBU, but different posts.
The only way to get out of it is to close the tab.

It looks very much like a hijack or man-in-the-middle attack.

I’ve just had this as well. On AIBU and also on notifications tab.

Using site on an iPhone via the website.

WingsofRain · 07/07/2025 09:21

I’ve just had it again on this part of the forum, in the post on ableism.

I’m also using an iPhone and browsing via Safari.

I have had this twice as well. I thought it was me accidentally clicking on an ad at first but it happened again while I was reading and not touching the screen. Also safari on iPhone.

It is a scam.

It comes up as Guardian net life in browser history. I have attached a pic of the browser history entries.

I hope that MN can quickly get this sorted.

Morning @WingsofRain and others. Thanks for flagging this. We're trying to track this page down as we speak. What would be really useful is a url to the page itself (please don't click on the scam links within the page). You can get a url of the page by using incognito mode and then copying the url. If anyone is able to post that here that wold really help us in tracking it down. Thank you!

BingoWasHisNameOo · 07/07/2025 10:45

Had it about 6/7 times this morning on my iPhone when on this site.
It just comes up as ‘guardian-net.life’

8misskitty8 · 07/07/2025 10:49

Just done it again on this actual thread !

Antihistamine62 · 07/07/2025 10:49

I’ve had this too on iPhone via the website

Yes, that’s the website on mine too.

Happened to me too two or three times.

Queenage · 07/07/2025 11:15

I’ve had it too

Helleofabore · 07/07/2025 11:30

I just had this happen on my iMac too. But with a Vodaphone competition for Virgin mobile people. And then I copied the link and in doing so it put me through to a porn page.

I have reported your post @HebeMumsnet and copied the link that is in my history (well, the destination link because this is not the link as it appears in my history). I figured that readers did NOT want to accidentally click on that link being a scam link spoofed by a different URL.

This is the competition page screen shot below. I was on a FWR thread.

So... no... I cannot get a copy of the initial link that came up the first time. And I am sorry, but I am not going to try it again.... 😨

Peridot1 · 07/07/2025 11:44

I had this too a couple of times this morning. Thought I’d accidentally clicked on an ad.

SabrinaThwaite · 07/07/2025 11:51

I’m getting it too, iPhone on the mobile site - tells me that a Mcafee subscription has expired. Same ‘guardian - net . life’ .

Arlanymor · 07/07/2025 11:54

I didn't get the URL as it was clearly a scam so I manoeuvred away from it, but mine was a fake BT page.

Helleofabore · 07/07/2025 11:58

I just got it again, another virgin mobile comp page redirect on iMac/safari.

I copied the URL from that page directly and have sent it in another reported post comment box.

Helleofabore · 07/07/2025 12:09

The URL appears a neatened 'systemguardian dot click' URL when it appears with the virgin mobile competition (which then appears as a vodaphone URL in history ).

HebeMumsnet · 07/07/2025 12:10

Thanks so much for your help with this, everyone. We're blocking the domains as they are reported to us. Please do let us know the url and where you saw the fake pages if any more pop up. Thanks again.

Funnywonder · 07/07/2025 12:15

I had one similar to the Virgin one upthread, except it was for Talktalk. My page just jumped to the supposed Talktalk one without any input from me.

Funnywonder · 07/07/2025 12:17

The site is generally very slow to load and glitchy for me today.

Helleofabore · 07/07/2025 12:31

I feel bad sending the URLs to MN mods...it feels like I am sending porn links. 😳

Kucinghitam · 07/07/2025 12:34

Happened to me about 15 minutes ago - MacBook Pro on Safari. I closed it too quickly to read the full URL but it was guardian something and shows as Vodafone Customer Rewards in the history.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/07/2025 12:39

I’ve not had it here yet but have had the weird virgin mobile thing before on random sites, it didn’t direct me anywhere to my knowledge but I didn’t click, the only way to exit is to close the tab as pp said.

ninjahamster · 07/07/2025 12:42

Happened to me too, thought I had clicked on something!

Peridot1 · 07/07/2025 12:53

Just happened again.

I copied the URL and sent it to you via PM @HebeMumsnet rather than put it in the thread.
