Fake virus page taking over

Twice in the past twelve hours I’ve had a fake virus page appear and take over my screen while reading posts on Mumsnet. Each time it was on AIBU, but different posts.
The only way to get out of it is to close the tab.

It looks very much like a hijack or man-in-the-middle attack.

It’s just happened again. This is becoming a little concerning.

It's been constant the last 29 something hours. At first I thought I'd accidentally clicked on an ad while scrolling.

but no, it just keeps happening. iPhone & safari.

given how huge MN is these days @HebeMumsnet it's really not acceptable.

It’s just happened to me, too, on my iPad. I was on a lighthearted thread about expensive things you regret buying.

Just happened again.

I've had this a few times in the last few days; and now twice this morning.

The previous ones went to systemguardian.click, but this morning's ones went to megadraws.click.

All of them showed a "Dear BT customer ... loyalty program".

Happened to me again several times today.

After a break of a day, it has just happened again, same page, same URL.

Hadn’t had it happen to me all day, and then out of the blue it just happened again.
surprised it hasn't been sorted yet!

I just got it there again.. It said Vodafone in the url, but the page that loaded addressed me as a Talktalk customer.

And again! 3 times today. Well it’s at least stopping me doomscrolling! This website. It’s unusable.

I had this too.

It’s happened to me again. I don’t know what thread I was on and I can’t remember now.

I had this twice today. URL was megadraws.click and telling me as a Google user that I had won an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy

About four times yesterday and o ce this morning

Please could you give us advice on what this means and what to do?

Oh I'm glad to find this thread. I had this one (fake Vodafone offer) on 7 July, and it repeated throughout the day. I don't think I've seen it since, so maybe you've nabbed this one.

I'm using Safari 18.5 on a MacBook Air. I'll PM you the URL as it appears in my History.

It happened on a variety of threads, and I hadn't clicked anything.

Sounds like they are widening their scope.

And like magic it happened again @HebeMumsnet @JoMumsnet as I was reading a thread about Owen Jones and trying to work our just what JKR did again.

Just had this as well. Probably the 3rd/4th time it's happened this week.

Fake McAffee. I'm on iPhone accessing MN via Safari.

Not clicking on anything on the page just reading a thread and it starts.

I reported my post and sent you the URL.

Just happened again this moment. Same message, different URL (Megadraws). I'll report this post and include the URL.

I have my laptop set up to Show Status Bar when I hover on a link, but this spam page shows nothing anywhere.
