Fake virus page taking over

Twice in the past twelve hours I’ve had a fake virus page appear and take over my screen while reading posts on Mumsnet. Each time it was on AIBU, but different posts.
The only way to get out of it is to close the tab.

It looks very much like a hijack or man-in-the-middle attack.

Just happened again still- came up exactly the same as before.

Yep, been happening to me all morning. On my phone. Doesn’t seem to matter what page of MN I’m on, and it’s not because I’m clicking on anything. It just pops up and starts “scanning” my phone. Actually just came here to report it.

Happening all the time to me on my iPhone on Safari. It just pops up out of nowhere and starts “scanning”.

Yes I’ve had this a few times today as well

I'm beginning to think mumsnet are so determined to get us all to pay for premium that they allow shit like this to happen

Just happened to me too
I’m on Safari, just panicked and turned my phone off.
I did see Guardian in the url but it also said McAffee at the top which I know I don’t have on my phone now.

I’ve had it twice today too and assumed I’d clicked an ad by mistake

My deleted post earlier included the link, so hopefully MN can see it. It's a Virgin Media one that it redirects to, every so often.

I looked for a thread this morning, as it was happening to me as well. Seems to have stopped now though.

I also panicked a bit but I spotted McAfee too. Also on Safari.

Happened a couple of times with me using safari on iPhone.

Same as above; guardian.net url and mcafee “scanning” on screen.

Not sure if this is the same thing or a different thing - had it twice today

I had the fake guardian one too but it took me to a McAffee-like virus site, so I quickly closed it down. I forget which thread I clicked on but its worrying that simply by clicking on a thread, we can be exposed to a risk like this.

Mine was triggered by the 'no fireplace' thread in AIBU this morning. No sooner had i clicked on it than i was diverted to the guardian net site and then the fake McAffee site. Was the fireplace poster new by any chance?

@HebeMumsnet Why does this continually happen?

A legitimate established UK company like MN shouldn't be allowed to use these malware infested fake ad networks.

Plenty of other media companies use ad revenue without this nonsense.

Happened to me multiple times today as well.

Just had it happen again. Come on Mumsnet - sort it!
