Hi @mnhq is it possible to please request a Muslim Board on here, a safe space for Muslims to have to speak freely about things that matter and should be discussed? Similar to that of the Jewish board.

I’m not Muslim but I support the creation of a dedicated board and safe space for Muslim MNers.
I am however slightly perplexed by the OP’s motives in singling out the Jewish MN board in relation to this request amongst all the other minority boards on MN.

Why are you perplexed that the OP singled out the one other religious board as an example?

I think you fail to understand that being Jewish has more to do with a shared culture than with religion. There are plenty of atheist Jews. Also plenty of Jews who will not know the books contained in the Torah or even the full rules of kashrut. However, we'll all have a shared understanding of having an overzealous Jewish mother, matzah balls, etc...

There are plenty of people that consider themselves culturally, rather than religiously, Muslim.

Does everyone always have to be so suspicious of each other's motives? Muslim and Jewish people both suffer discrimination, both may have things they would like to discuss off the (frankly sometimes psychotic) main boards, both can share concerns and celebrations on their boards.

I agree with this. The Islamophobia that rears his nasty head every time there’s any thread about Muslims or foreigners is disgraceful. A safe space for Muslims is needed so that posters can post freely without threads being hijacked.

I am not a Muslim and so wouldnt use it but I hope I am allowed to say that I support this suggestion.
Hopefully Muslim members will be able to post on it without facing the quite frankly shitty attitudes from some people.

Yes, that’s why I posted that I support the creation of a Muslim MN board as I think it’s incredibly valuable and necessary to have a dedicated space. I didn’t question the OP’s motives for requesting the board, nor do I have any suspicions about it. It’s a nice thing to have and I agree it should be created.

Yup, considering that the request thread for the Jewish Mumsnet board specifically referenced the creation of the Black Mumsnet board.

What's perplexing? You initiated a horrible derail of a sensible uncontroversial thread. It isn't surprising that others responded in irritation, @Zzippit.

BTW I fully support this request, the covert racism (and consequent gaslighting "it's all in your head", "You misread, I didn't mean that") that doesn't expressly violate the talk guidelines has exploded. Some posters are deliberately using geopolitical events to vent about "Muslims" as if they're a monolith.

I would love a muslim board. It would have been nice to have had a space to discuss eg Ramadan as it is hard going through the month alone.

I think it is a great idea especially considering how mumsnet appears to be struggling to moderate anti Muslim posts.

Actually, it referenced the Black, South Asian, Welsh, Irish and Scottish mumsnetters and MNHQ’s response referenced “The Black Mumsnetters, SE Asian MNers, Craicnet, etc came about because users started threads requesting their own space.” Just in the interests of accuracy. You can easily search up the thread if you wish to verify.
