Banner advert in the app

Hi MNHQ,

There's a banner ad appearing in the ap (at the top) that makes the app visually really annoying to navigate. Will it be there permanently? It would be less bad at the bottom! Thanks!

Oh yes I'm seeing the Monopoly one still. I had forgotten it was gambling as the slot machine ones seem to be gone!

The whole purpose of Site Stuff is to report issues & get a response from MN. You've completely failed to do that. I'm slightly glad though as I'm enjoying spending much less time on MN (despite occasional middle of the night forays!)

That's pretty fucking disgusting tbh. I'm assuming gambling ads bring in a shit ton of money for MN which is why they're reluctant to let them go

@justinemumsnet we've had no update on this thread for over a week now. We've reported repeatedly that we're still seeing gambling adverts all over the app, including on the addition support board which is really low. Please can this be dealt with?

Maybe I've been lucky but since I've re-installed the app, the banner ad seems to be stuck on the "Mumsnet Voices" one famous last words

Maybe it's because in the process of re-installing, I told it that I wasn't allowing it to track my activity

But I don't even want to see mumsnet voices. There was never any ad at the top at all until 4 weeks ago and it blocks a large part of the screen so defeats the purpose of an app as it's more work to try and follow a thread, I've barely been on mumsnet for the last few weeks since this started which is no bad thing but piss poor reaction from MNHQ

I'm still pissed off at the double advertising: ie the permanent banner taking up a 1/3 of the screen as well as the in-thread advertising (which I have no objection to).

They claim that this is the norm on social media sites - but have failed to come up with any examples when I asked . It's certainly not the norm on the other mainstream social media websites I use (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, Reddit, Threads)

Their lack of response is just plain rude

There's no response because they've sold the adspace and they will be contractually obliged.

Then at least @LilyMumsnet @JoMumsnet @BeckyAMumsnet or @justinemumsnet should have the guts courtesy to come on and say that

But they could still answer the question about the other websites that apparently have the same sort of advertising - since none of us seem to have come across them. or don't they exist

Totally agree @prettybird it's just rude at this stage. I keep meaning to e mail Justine Roberts but other part of me can't be bothered and shouldn't have to anyway 🤷

It does very much feel like they are just waiting on this thread to die a death without any proper answer. Really poor and not what I would have expected from well over a decade on this site. Disappointing.

Still no proper response then @MNHQ? In the meantime the app is still effectively not functioning and we're still seeing really inappropriate ads that are taking up excessive space.

Same. Mine were just static mumsnet ad for a few days but back to moving gambling ones. Def using this less which isn't altogether a bad thing but I am very very disappointed by the lack of explanation.

While I realise that Mumsnet has other stuff going on (like dealing with the university who scraped years worth of chat data), it's been weeks since we reported this and nothing is apparently happening, no updates from any of you!

Mumsnet stonewalling their users; a catchy headline for the Daily Fail???

I idly checked back on this thread to see if any update ... still none.

I'm happy my app usage has reduced significantly but still irked by the utter lack of professionalism shown by MN. Yes, still seeing scrolling, gambling ads, mostly making the app unusable.
