Quite a few aggressive vaccine denying threads lately...

Is there some sort of concerted campaign afoot? I've noticed a few threads recently, all along the same lines. Very dog whistley...

Hi there mathanxiety,
We don't think it's a campaign so much as a fairly natural swing towards questioning the mechanics of a massive global upheaval, and so far we're seeing it from old members and new. Do keep reporting though, as it's only when we know about threads that we can monitor patterns emerging.
Thanks, any insight much appreciated!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 05/04/2023 09:14

I’ve not noticed anything. I’ve been severely disabled by the vaccine but still support them.

ScentOfAMemory · 05/04/2023 09:20

That's a very odd response from HQ.

Shitzngiggles · 05/04/2023 09:21

@ScentOfAMemory I thought that too.

mathanxiety · 05/04/2023 14:37

'A fairly natural swing'?

Really? The truth isn't always somewhere in the middle, you know.

Yes, that's a concerning reply.

Parker231 · 05/04/2023 14:56

Antivaxxers keep popping up - they don’t have any scientific evidence other antidotes that everyone who was vaccinated got Covid badly whereas they would never have the vaccine and have a strong immune system so never got Covid - they usually say they haven’t ever tested or wore a mask

APlagueOnBothYourTrousers · 07/04/2023 17:30

I've reported a few anti vax posts in the last week and none were removed. When I asked why, I was told to 'politely correct them' myself as they didn't break talk guidelines. Amongst these were posts that weren't explicitly anti vax but it was obvious what they were saying (including one on one of the many threads about increases in autism diagnoses 🙄). I was told I was wrong. But then also told to correct them myself 🤔

I think @HopeMumsnet might be an anticancer.

Notegoat · 08/04/2023 14:47

Have MNHQ swapped the gin for homeopathy?

I think this is a great answer.

I don't know why people think that vaccines should never be questioned, as if the rest of the population are so immature that they will just blindly refuse vaccines as a result.

Here in Mexico there was no coercion, we were given top quality information and we had a really high uptake.

But they were very new vaccines that were rushed out, so it would be surprising if they were 100% safe for everyone

APlagueOnBothYourTrousers · 08/04/2023 15:54

@Coyoacan there's questioning vaccines, and then there's deliberately and maliciously spreading false information, particularly the 'vaccines cause autism' canard that gets trotted out regularly.

Questioning = good.
False information = bad.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 08/04/2023 17:05

@Notegoat no no, still solidly on the gin. Organic nettle tincture doesn't cut it on the average MN weekend.

As Hope says, we can tell the difference between someone here with a specific agenda - usually to spread misinformation or cause alarm - and someone who is seeking understanding or clarification about something they've seen/read elsewhere. The latter, we're okay with.

VanillaImpulse · 08/04/2023 17:18

Well it's pretty clear that it was a total waste of money to give them to most people under 50 unless they had underlying health conditions. They didn't stop you getting it and they didn't stop the spread. Both lies that were peddled at the beginning to coerce people into having it.

Not a waste for the younger end of the population - my friend died whilst waiting for his age group to be vaccinated. He was 54 with no underlying health conditions. If he had had the opportunity to be vaccinated, he probably would have survived (according to the specialist in ICU).

Viviennemary · 08/04/2023 18:14

Not seen any today. I think people should be allowed to voice their fears though.

There are plenty on the current thread about travelling to the US!

If it was a waste of money and it didn't stop it from spreading then why did they do it?

APlagueOnBothYourTrousers · 08/04/2023 18:47

@bossonext it was funded by Big Tinfoil to create unprecedented demand.

Notegoat · 08/04/2023 20:42

Excellent.

lljkk · 08/04/2023 20:48

Neah, but today is "anti dog" day. ActiveConv is heaving with anti dog threads this afternoon.

VanillaImpulse · 08/04/2023 21:02

@bossonext the government waste a lot of money - you only need to look at all the PPE they bought that got binned. They just had to be seen to be doing something so wasted a load of money on vaccines that didn't work

The vaccine programme saved lives. It worked amazingly at limiting serious affects of the disease, keeping people out of hospital and ultimately preventing further deaths.

Crikeyalmighty · 08/04/2023 21:14

I've had (and still have) nasty neuro stuff post covid and post vaccine- but as I had them close together I couldn't say if one or the other caused it or possibly neither- I don't think the vaccines were wrong at all, I do however though think there is nothing wrong with it being discussed

I agree with this, and I was genuinely terrified by covid. No one knew if it worked and quite possibly after scaring the arse off the population they had to have an exit strategy. Maybe it was just an empty vaccine, I don't think questioning is a problem.

Please feel free to AS me, I've been around much longer than covid but NC, but still with this name been around a while.
