Why is Sex topic now in Active?

It never used to be there before. It doesn't really seem appropriate with some of the titles.

@Orangesandlemons77 so so stressful for you!! I truly hope you got helpful advice and can chat things through with your son xx

It’s only sex. We all do it 🤷🏽‍♀️

Actually, we don’t. I identify as asexual and I am very offended with being forced to read these threads.

Thanks, it is a tricky one! And also not easy to discuss in RL.

Judeisnotobscure · 16/02/2023 15:15

I absolutely appreciate that! Hugs for you xx

Well not on here, no as the post was deleted. I think I have a friend in RL I can discuss it with though so she may be able to help.

I'm a man, been here for years, mostly read AIBU, chat, diy, I occasionally have a read of the sex board. I don't post a lot anywhere but reply if I think it may be helpful.

I'd guess about 5% of my posts are on the sex board but it's always felt like a safe space to talk about things that can be difficult to address irl.

That's changed now sex topics are coming up on active. Posts like the ones above are getting more frequent.

I'd say it doesn't work for anyone, there may well be unsuitable men drawn there and spreading to other boards but I know there's unhelpful and unpleasant traffic the other way.

I get that many don't want sex topics appearing on their screen but neither does following links to say something along the line of "you disgust me" help anyone either.

For the first time ever on MN I've considered name changing to post on the sex topics for fear of being judged with a very broad brush.

Come on MNHQ, hide sex from those that don't want to see it and maybe increase the time before new members can post

ErrolTheDragon · 16/02/2023 15:20

It’s only sex. We all do it

Most people on a parenting website!Grin

However - I'm pretty sure it's the case that for most people that sex is a private activity. Consenting adults only. Not something you want randomly featuring on your tablet when your kids are around.

There may be some difference on average between women's and men's views on this privacy aspect, I suppose. And almost certainly a difference between 'MN posters in general' and 'men who choose to use the Sex topic on MN' .

Pretty sure it's against the law to post links to sponsored content (which many of those topics clearly are) without adding "AD" or "Advertisement" or "Sponsored Content" on the link. UK laws are particularly strict on that. Even YouTubers need to state "AD" on all video titles that contain paid content without, otherwise it can be considered deception. None of the MN sex toy links, Sky Kids links, sneezing without peeing links have any sort of indication that it's paid content. Some lawyers should look into that.

Or the Advertising Standards Authority

ErrolTheDragon · 16/02/2023 15:23

it also had that you had to be registered for 90 days before posting on it (is that still true?) to try to deter wank fodder one time chancers.

Looks like it's 7 days now.

FFS you can't expect men to wait 3 months before using a mainly women's website for free, unconsenting wank fodder.

That's what we're here for after all.

They're all sobbing away over there now.

They're only trying to be helpful! They aren't there purely for wank material or for anal rimming sex chat. No.. they're there to be insightful and the fact they don't post elsewhere on the site is neither here nor there.

Poor men.

Yes, yes to this. And acting like mumsnet is the only place on the internet they can talk about sex? I get to be vulnerable here 😭What's worse is the women lapping it up, I suppose those other women just don't like sex, not like me 🙄Nah, hun, we just don't need creepy mens validation of our sex lives.

They feel unsafe now as well apparently.

I would say welcome to our world.... but I don’t believe they feel unsafe at all. Just men making it about men.... again. What a surprise.

I don’t believe that most of those claiming to be women are women.

They don't seem to care that the sheer number of men who only post on there make some women feel unsafe on MN.

It's all about the poor men as per.

Thank you for being so brave as to monitor the board in real time.

It's less safe for everyone, women as well as men. Talking about sensitive subjects can be hard enough as it is without fearing judgemental abuse.

I think hiding the sex board from active is a good idea.

I think increasing the delay after registration is a good idea.

I don't think attacking anyone or accusing women of being men is helpful to anyone.

Some women are from cultures where sex isn't discussed in mixed company. Some of us don't want to read about stuff that's only there to titillate blokes.
We're going to stop visiting or uninstall the app if it's becoming sleazy.

Judeisnotobscure · 16/02/2023 16:22

@leithreas I’m guessing your last comment is directed at me. I don’t want or need anyone’s validation of my sex life. I do, however, enjoy talking about sex openly with both men and women in an appropriate place. The Sex Board. I’m not apologising!

What do you mean
'there's unhelpful and unpleasant traffic the other way.'???
Some woman comes on your sexy thread spoiling the mood with talk of leaky boobs, sleepless nights and hemorrhoids?

It's MUMSNET. Clue's in the name!

There’s very few women over there. You’re wanking with other men. Have fun.

There's plenty of examples of people asking difficult and embarrassing questions that have been told they are disgusting or similar.

Sorry but I haven't got any sexy threads to help with leaky boobs but I can empathise with sleepless nights and hemorrhoids (which is something that's been asked about on the sex board...because it's relevant)
