It never used to be there before. It doesn't really seem appropriate with some of the titles.

Decades of sexual harassment have taught me not to rely on men for support. And lo! A man starts a thread about sexual harassment and uses it to prove it's not that bad. SHOCKER.

I haven't tried to use it for anything and it's purely for women to share their personal experience of whether they have been harassed or not.

It makes no difference who asks the question the only thing that's important is the (female) content

It's got to be better than hearsay and assumptions from both sides though it's far to early to be able to say anything much.

Don't be so disingenuous. Of course you have, you have been trotting that out on every single thread about the sex forum. Oh I started a thread about pms and only 1 person had a negative experience so it's fine. You absolutely have been trying to say it's not a big deal, repeatedly, on multiple threads.

RockClimber · 20/02/2023 22:37

Perhaps the women who have been harassed have left that board or the site completely.

Harassment of women, children and vulnerable men is underreported and is even less likely to be reported to a man.

milkyaqua · 20/02/2023 22:46

Just change the name of the site to Horny Mumsnet. In the spirit of the site and all.

LangClegsInSpace · 20/02/2023 22:47

I’m convinced that MN don’t bother doing any user research before they make changes.

Nor do they seem to listen when users tell them something. Repeatedly.

What bothers me is that they always have consulted users before but they so blatantly haven't this time.

Generally when a new topic has been been proposed there have been numerous threads on site stuff, often running to the full 1K posts discussing the pros and cons. Same for changes to topics or talk guidelines. Sometimes things have got so heated that there have been mass deregs, sometimes mass bannings. You can see in the links provided in this thread and others that there were discussions going on for the best part of a decade before the introduction of the sex topic.

I haven't always agreed with all their decisions but never before have I felt like MNHQ think I am stupid. Everyone can clearly see that there has been a policy change.

RockClimber · 20/02/2023 22:48

EVERY single time I've mentioned it I've qualified it by saying there aren't enough responses to tell anything.

Just because I'm a man doesn't mean I can't have a genuine concern that women are being targeted by predatory men.

I have female friends, a sisters, a daughter, her mother who i respect more than anyone, nieces and I see what they have to put up with and it isn't fucking ok. I push back against shit misogynistic bollocks every day in my real and online life.

Isn't that what decent people are supposed to do?

If its happening here and not being swiftly dealt with I'll be shouting as loud as anyone.

Not for one minute am I trying to take anything away from yours or any other women's lived experience and neither do I pretend I know what is like.

I know enough to know it has to change but what's the point in changing the wrong things?

MeganTheeScallion · 20/02/2023 22:50

@Surplus2requirements it does matter who asks the questions, who claims to be giving women a platform, and it speaks volumes that you can't understand that. And in your earlier post you literally wrote that you started it for the purpose of seeing if concerns were valid or not. The sheer entitlement really is something.

You start one then, I only did so because its a concern I share and nobody else had.

I'm very happy to ask for mine to be deleted

MeganTheeScallion · 20/02/2023 22:51

Jfc "some of my best friends are women". Is there a bingo card yet?

The platform is MN

Only MNHQ can judge any results.

Are the concerns valid? Some women say yes, some women say no. I haven't got a clue because I'm a man...so I asked.

MeganTheeScallion · 20/02/2023 22:58

@LangClegsInSpace 🤣

Surplus2requirements · 20/02/2023 23:04

@LangClegsInSpace I do like a hat

LangClegsInSpace · 20/02/2023 23:04

I mean JFC as if we don't already have our work cut out with all the new style misogynists without having to rehone our skills against these retro types!

LangClegsInSpace · 20/02/2023 23:05

I bet you do Surplus. What can I say?

I guess that makes me useful for something, almost a compliment in comparison 🙂

MeganTheeScallion · 20/02/2023 23:09

@LangClegsInSpace I'm glad you're asking him first, give him a chance to give you a platform to speak and all that... 😉

Mermaidparades · 20/02/2023 23:09

The last few pages read like a bunch of school bullies. The treatment of @Surplus2requirements is actually disgusting. He has been polite and courteous throughout. It’s embarrassing.

Surplus2requirements · 20/02/2023 23:14

It's OK @Mermaidparades I'm open to learning though the technique is a little brutal I'll admit.

Mermaidparades · 20/02/2023 23:19

I’m not sure what childish bullies are actually going to teach you though.

Sparklingbrook · 20/02/2023 23:27

If you believe anyone on here is being bullied then report it. 🤷‍♀️

Not all for the same reasons though. A lot of us want it off Active to stem the tidal wave of abuse of the people who post on it.
