Totally inappropriate enormous vibrator adverts now ALL over Mumnset.

What on earth are you thinking of? Is Mumsnet really that short of cash that they have to stoop this low?

Not to mention the ridiculous woke language ie "people with wombs".

Totally inappropriate on ALL levels.

It’s back in Active for me (for now 🙄)

I imagine it’s a bit like the hokey-cokey whilst execs from Smile & MN have crisis talks about their spectacular shit-show of a product launch.

Anyone else can’t help thinking of the Apprentice?!

I am also imagining this. I'm supposed to be "doing DIY" today (pun not intended) but have instead been on here wondering much the same as you!

I have fixed one toilet though. So am declaring a win.

SweetSakura · 02/02/2023 13:31

I also have to say that I can't think I have ever come across any sense that sex or sex toys is taboo for mothers. It seems like a created problem for this advert. Time and energy to have the inclination might be a issue sometimes but there's no "Taboo" around it. So why pretend there is?.

Walkinginthesand · 02/02/2023 13:32

I may be being extremely naive here but would a non”vulva owner” actually be interested in buying or looking at an advert for a women’s vibrator so who are they scared of offending?

ValerieDoonican · 02/02/2023 13:32

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/02/2023 13:23

Inspired idea on the other thread to call the Mumsnet vibrator The CFer

👏👏👏

Decafflatteplease · 02/02/2023 13:33

Vulva owner? Sounds like I keep it proudly on display on the mantelpiece 😂

ridingonawhale · 02/02/2023 13:35

ValerieDoonican · 02/02/2023 13:32

👏👏👏

hahahaha 😂
The rest of this womb owning vulva having brand exercise is fucking depressing, no just NO.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 02/02/2023 13:36

It does look like MN have removed the 'vulva owning' from their text but too little too late imo, that does not excuse it being there in the first place.

"We knew from previous activations with our community that sex and motherhood is a deeply-rooted taboo. The lack of conversation and resources on the topic is leaving mothers feeling side-lined as sexual beings. At Smile Makers, we have been tackling taboos around female sexuality for over 10 years and that was obviously an important one to remove.”

Absolutely agree with this. It's gaslighting of sorts, disingenuous at the very. least. It's as if to say Mumsnetters are so stuck up and need a bit of help with their sex life, as supposedly we are all such prudes not to want overtly sexual gender woo in schools and libraries.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 02/02/2023 13:37

Sorry, dunno if this has been covered and I missed it, but do we know why it’s important that the thing is quiet?

is the idea that you’re going to use it while your baby is in the room sleeping or something?

TwilightSparklesLeftHoof · 02/02/2023 13:38

This is appalling.

What is also appalling is the lack of response or update from HQ. It only makes the situation worse.

LateToTheParty · 02/02/2023 13:38

From the Instagram advert - not a fan of what looks like babies milk bottles as bullet points for the features of the vibrator...

Another one who finds this horrendous. Just say it's for women. Why even say it's for mothers as a lot of people on this site (myself included) are in the infertility and IVF community trying desperately to become mums.

PragmaticWench · 02/02/2023 13:40

The phrase 'Smile Makers' is deeply, deeply creepy in this context. 😕

ridingonawhale · 02/02/2023 13:40

It's for moms.

Are we in the US now?
What's with the feeding bottle bullies?
Fuck off with your sexist bullshit.

Omg. How can Mumsnet have been so misguided

ridingonawhale · 02/02/2023 13:41

bullies = bullets

Mochudubh · 02/02/2023 13:41

Wheesht............ye ken fa.

For the "ahem" more mature among us.

Avariceagain · 02/02/2023 13:42

This has made me so cross. Just adding my voice to WTF were you thinking @mnhq??

I want to write lots about how this has pissed me off but I'm too sleep deprived (from being up with the toddler all night, just in case anyone thinks that's a comment on my sex life)

Agreed.

Why do they say Mom? Shouldn't be mum at the very least? And why are they using such sweeping generalisations to advertise this products mums are all rather different. Some have teenage or adult children. We are just women or people you know, not some strange Mom species.

YesitsBess · 02/02/2023 13:43

This is interesting:

www.mumsnet.com/talk/site_stuff/4733509-have-some-peoples-hidden-topics-become-unhidden?page=1

The day before launch, lots of people who had chosen to have the 'sex' topics hidden on active suddenly had it appearing. Apparently a "technical issue" but you had to go in manually to change your preferences for what you see.

I think a lot of people who have those boards hidden do so because of previous sexual assault. So was there a blanket revoking of that just so everyone had to look at the vibrator launch thread whether they wanted to or not?

That's absolutely fucking appalling.

MuckyPlucky · 02/02/2023 13:43

V v minor point but I could never buy a product from idiots who confuse the words ‘interaction’ and ‘activation’.

Fools. Sexist, pig-ignorant sub-educated fools.

Oh Christ. This just gets worse and worse. There are no words 😮

whatyoulookingfor · 02/02/2023 13:47

Another one that wants to have noted my absolute disgust at the choice of words in this advert. We are women not bloody vulva owners or people with wombs, and if you dare come back and change it to cis - women and other women then I think I might explode. Stop pandering to a tiny proportion of the population and think about your core business... You know, us mum's.

Well it makes sense to go the whole hog and promote bottle feeding at the same time. After all the main purpose of our bodes is to be up to speed, toned and prepped for the mighty penis-haver.

In France they offer women physiotherapy to help with childbirth recovery if needed. Here, we get to pay for shrek's ear from someone who thinks my clitoris is floating somewhere in my abdomen.

whatyoulookingfor · 02/02/2023 13:48

Also, and I'm prepared to be criticised but who the fuck uses a vibratory on their vulva... Am I odd in mainly using on my clit or for penetration
