Totally inappropriate enormous vibrator adverts now ALL over Mumnset.

What on earth are you thinking of? Is Mumsnet really that short of cash that they have to stoop this low?

Not to mention the ridiculous woke language ie "people with wombs".

Totally inappropriate on ALL levels.

Oh dear, this is an own goal @mnhq

Thinking of all the womb owners I know that I could buy one for, my cat, my horse, the 3 year old girl over the road. Best not suggest it to my Aunt who had a hysterectomy though ... She might be offended

whatyoulookingfor · 02/02/2023 13:48

Also, and I'm prepared to be criticised but who the fuck uses a vibratory on their vulva... Am I odd in mainly using on my clit or for penetration

I think your knowledge of female biology is just better than the right on intern who came up with such a crap marketing message.

OTOH if they promote their own work its a useful warning to future female partners they may find.

SalviaOfficinalis · 02/02/2023 13:51

I’m just excited to see how the Daily Mail are going to summarise this whole debacle.

WinnieFosterReads · 02/02/2023 13:51

The baby bottles on the insta ad; the use of vulva havers and womb havers ... either this is an April Fool that went live early or MN has another 'dodgy intern' situation.
If I was MNHQ I'd be considering how much to bill Smile Makers for damage to reputation - who the fuck puts baby bottles in a vibrators' ad and can't say women whilst trying to sell to mothers?

Hi all

We have stopped excluding sex from active but you can hide the topic by going to your talk settings. Flowers

Taken from the other thread. Used to be automatically hidden in active but now you have to go in and hide it. And coincidentally a day before launch! What amazing timing!

Screw you victims/survivors of sexual assault - look at the tiny green pseudo willy!

WinnieFosterReads · 02/02/2023 13:52

Has the management of MNHQ changed? Who thought it was a good idea to move sex into active when the place is absolutely crawling with misogynists, TRAs and incels?

BethDuttonsTwin · 02/02/2023 13:53

I agree with the op actually. Was looking to try to “hide” them as I do with threads that I find inappropriate but no such luck.

GrisleyR · 02/02/2023 13:53

It's gone from Active for me - but a sex thread about riiming has popped up.
I've never seen a sex thread before 🤔

This discussion is definitely being stifled.

SirChenjins · 02/02/2023 13:53

@whatyoulookingfor no, you’re not alone - but they probably thought that the word clit strayed into ‘taboo for mothers’ territory and that we would combust if we saw it.

TheWitchesAreBackInTown · 02/02/2023 13:54

Sex and motherhood has NEVER been taboo. Otherwise women would have stopped at one child, throughout history. C'mon, they used to do it in the same room as the children. In fact, in many countries they still do, what with lack of space.

And, by saying we don't there to be taboo of sex in motherhood, they are creating their own dialogue.

YesitsBess · 02/02/2023 13:55

@GrisleyR sex was deliberately added into active yesterday. There's a link to the thread either above or on the previous page.

Riverlee · 02/02/2023 13:57

Just a thought, is this one thread we want reporters to report on? (Sorry if this has been mentioned before, haven’t had time to read whole thread, only on page 11) and now got stuff to do).

What's with the ultra-gentle stimulation on the vulva for pain free exploration? We are fucking mothers, we have had to actually fuck to be mothers (most of us) and push out a baby at the end or manage a c-section while caring for a new born, why are you writing this creepy shit as if you are talking to innocent virgins?

And efficient pleasure in a short time? Efficient? How is pleasure efficient .

The whole thing reads like one big spoof.

It's as if it's not actually designed for women but for a much younger user.

It's just every shade of wrong.

I would dearly love to hear from @justinemumsnet as I am genuinely really surprised she would be on board with this advert.

Me too! Sorry I wrongly included your post in mine above @SpottyBumPony

@SpottyBumPony i mean the animal but, obviously don’t want to offend Aunty Pony.

I would dearly love to hear from @justinemumsnet as I am genuinely really surprised she would be on board with this advert.

According to the ad, Justine has this to say.

Justine Roberts, founder of Mumsnet also commented, “Mumsnet has always been a place where women can share opinions, knowledge and advice on anything and everything, including sex. We hear frequently from women who are struggling to reconnect with their sexuality after having children, or who can’t find the support or information they need in order to do so.

“That’s why we’re glad to have been able to work with Smile Makers to create the first vibrator designed specifically for mothers. In doing so, we hope not only to enable women to reconnect with their sexuality more easily after childbirth, but to also counter the outdated taboos and stereotypes that can lead to some women feeling embarrassed or ashamed about their sexual needs.”

CoffeeRightNow · 02/02/2023 14:02

Ultra gentle stimulation on the vulva sounds like the unsatisfactory attempts by a grotty teenage boy to ‘pleasure’ me when I was 17.

No, ta.

AllOutofEverything · 02/02/2023 14:06

And they can't even used the word clitoris! FFs.

ValerieDoonican · 02/02/2023 14:07

"The lack of conversation and resources on the topic is leaving mothers feeling side-lined as sexual beings."

Yeah right.

The lack of women not knowing how to turn themselves on, should they have a minute, is leaving the Shrek-ear feeling side-lined as a product without a market, more like.

So lets create the market by pretending women who've just had a baby are all "oh I can't remember how to do sex - I have all the time in the world but need to buy something to 'educate' me," and sell it to them shall we?
