Totally inappropriate enormous vibrator adverts now ALL over Mumnset.

What on earth are you thinking of? Is Mumsnet really that short of cash that they have to stoop this low?

Not to mention the ridiculous woke language ie "people with wombs".

Totally inappropriate on ALL levels.

Hey, just arrived at the Beach. I heard the goss is that MN is hiding valid debate in order to try and sell vibrators to people with wombs. Accurate summary?

Ahoy there @Thatshipsailed . Perfect summary. Sadly.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/02/2023 13:10

Placemaking in case I can't find this thread again

paintitallover · 02/02/2023 13:11

Yep. Absolutely garbage ad, and poor response from Mumsnet.

Gingerkittykat · 02/02/2023 13:11

I can't imagine it's going to sell well with people who hate Mumsnet avoiding it and all Mumnsnet posters hating it too!

‘For mothers and vulva owners’

WTAF

WHAT!!!!??

SweetSakura · 02/02/2023 13:15

Vulva owners 🙄
I mean it's all very well saying you note our comments and are having a chat about it but honestly how did this ever get past you in the first place.

I'm a woman. Not a vulva owner.

How many products do we see marketed at "penis owners"? It seems to be only the word "woman" that is being erased.

Feeling to sweary to type more now.

TheShellBeach · 02/02/2023 13:15

I have reported the OP so that I could ask why this thread is not showing up in Active.

They do not seem to be responding to tags.

LynneBenfield · 02/02/2023 13:15

Another own goal from MNHQ.

MuckyPlucky · 02/02/2023 13:17

I don’t think MNHQ have the guts to come back on here & explain why they’re silenced us, so I’m stepping away to safeguard my blood pressure which is raising with each ‘refresh’.

My faith in MNHQ is now permanently erased. Cash over customers. No scruples. TRA’s. No adequate responses. Can’t read the room. Silencing complaints.

I feel like I’ve just been betrayed by a close friend of 12 years 😢 😔

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/02/2023 13:17

It's a poorly thoughtout concept that reduces us to our sexual organs. It makes us as Mumsnet users the target of more ridicule and trolling. Thanks so much mumsnet for once again patronising us.

PlusLaMeme · 02/02/2023 13:18

I too have followed the bread crumbs from another thread to this one as mnhq have hidden it very well indeed. They obviously have a very low opinion of their users.

What's with the censorship @mnhq ? That's a taboo that's more real than coy vibrators disguised as toilet refreshers

SirChenjins · 02/02/2023 13:18

Vulva owners?? And they thought this would go down well on MN?! Whoever is responsible for their marketing should be shown the door immediately. Women have vulvas - men do not. Say the word ‘women’ and be proud to stand with the facts.

TheShellBeach · 02/02/2023 13:18

It's back in Active for me.

TheShellBeach · 02/02/2023 13:19

TheShellBeach · 02/02/2023 13:18

It's back in Active for me.

Sorry, it's gone again. WTF is happening?

monsteramunch · 02/02/2023 13:20

Have they changed the wording on the link someone shared upthread (this one: www.mumsnet.com/articles/the-whisperer) to remove the 'people with wombs' bit people mentioned? I can't see it in the copy?

It's so disappointing to see us reduced to parts of our anatomy. As PP said I wonder if butt plug makers will start referring to their demographic as 'anus owners'... doubt it.

Yarnosaura · 02/02/2023 13:22

This is really bad, MNHQ.

Surely you checked out the company before joining forces in this venture? Is money really so right you need to resort to this? Did you even read the copy?

Can you not see how hideously dehumanising and creepy this all is?

My dear cat is a 'vulva owner'.

Baby girls are 'vulva owners'.

SalviaOfficinalis · 02/02/2023 13:23

TheShellBeach · 02/02/2023 13:19

Sorry, it's gone again. WTF is happening?

It’s come back in my active

MuckyPlucky · 02/02/2023 13:23

TheShellBeach · 02/02/2023 13:19

Sorry, it's gone again. WTF is happening?

It’s back in Active for me (for now 🙄)

I imagine it’s a bit like the hokey-cokey whilst execs from Smile & MN have crisis talks about their spectacular shit-show of a product launch.

Anyone else can’t help thinking of the Apprentice?!

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/02/2023 13:23

Inspired idea on the other thread to call the Mumsnet vibrator The CFer

naturalchiller · 02/02/2023 13:24

Totally agree.
I don't want to see or read about that over my cornflakes!
Also people with wombs... WOMEN!!

Walkinginthesand · 02/02/2023 13:25

I’m no longer seeing the extremely offensive ad in question. Has it been taken down?

Viviennemary · 02/02/2023 13:26

I couldn't believe it when I saw this kind of thing was being advertised here.

TheFeistyFeminist · 02/02/2023 13:27

Feels like a good compromise would be:

Can MN limit adverts for this type of product and associated adverts to only the more adult-content threads - those where we are less likely to be reading it on the train, in front of young children etc?

Personally, I wouldn't buy from this company now because of phrases like vulva owner, people with wombs etc. I don't own my vulva any more than I own my elbows. There is no buying and selling going on with my body parts. I exist in a body with a vulva because I am female. I have elbows same as a large proportion of the animal kingdom. ;-)

Other members here may feel differently and I don't have a problem with MN accommodating that too, they just won't see a penny of my money.

IDontCareMatthew · 02/02/2023 13:27

Well what adverts DO you all want to see?

I just scroll past all ads, barely look long enough to notice what they are

CountZacular · 02/02/2023 13:28

I just want to add my voice to the sea of others who find this language absolutely disgusting.

Can you imagine any other situation where we’d reduce a marginalised group to utterly dehumanising language and then celebrate it as a success? It’s not even done with the dominant class - men.

If there’s one place I’d expect better, it fucking mumsnet.
