Have some people's hidden topics become unhidden?

I keep seeing loads of threads under the 'Sex' topic after forgetting all about it. I'm sure I blocked it as it was just full of posts by vaguely creepy sounding blokes talking about "their lady". Have topics been accidentally unhidden?

Hi OP

We did have a little blip with hidden topics - sorry about that.
If you hide it again now, it'll stick.

SwedishEdith · 01/02/2023 18:33

Ah, thanks. So I wasn't imagining it 😃

I didn't think the sex category shown in active? I've never seen it pop up before and I don't think I've hidden it

SwedishEdith · 01/02/2023 18:48

I can see three threads in Active at the moment.

I don't have it hidden, but it didn't used to show in active? It's everywhere at the moment!

PennyToffee · 01/02/2023 18:49

The sex topic never used to pop up in active. I'd rather not read about rimming when I'm eating my dinner.

SwedishEdith · 01/02/2023 18:51

I'm not sure whether I had it hidden either but it definitely wasn't showing before.

I didn't have it hidden but I never saw it in Active until today. I will hide it though if it's going to pop up in Active from now on. Too many sleazy blokes post on it.

ofwarren · 01/02/2023 18:57

Can you hide topics on the app?
I really don't want to see that stuff in active.

I was coming here to say exactly this. Not what I was expecting while idly scrolling down the active topics.

LilyMumsnet · 01/02/2023 19:11

Hi all

We have stopped excluding sex from active but you can hide the topic by going to your talk settings. Flowers

PennyToffee · 01/02/2023 19:17

Can I ask why you have stopped excluding the sleaze sex topic from Active?

PennyToffee · 01/02/2023 19:20

Is it so you can advertise the ridiculous MN mum vibrator on there?

SwedishEdith · 01/02/2023 19:28

Why?

Can you do this on the app?

So now the sex chat thread will come up in Active so any old perv will think Mumsnetters are up for a pervy PM?

Good point
Didn't you have to be a member for a while or have made a certain number of posts before you can post in there? I wonder if that's changed too?

SwedishEdith · 01/02/2023 20:26

I can't see how to hide it now. Can see how to hide a thread but not the whole topic.

OP posts:
PennyToffee · 01/02/2023 20:42

Have you seen all the blokes on the sex chat thread wanting 'the ladies' to PM them <shudders>

AnotherAppleThief · 01/02/2023 20:43

I think this is a mistake.

I don't want to hide any topic, but I'd prefer the graphic content of the titles in that topic aren't readable by my children who often sit next to me. It's a shame mnhq haven't really thought through this.

mynameiscalypso · 01/02/2023 20:44

I think this is pretty crap especially as you can't hide topics on the app as far as I can see.

Hawkins002 · 01/02/2023 20:45

I can understand the topic titles being family friendly, but surely sex is part of relationships and there are I presume many genuine posters so why all the dislike for that topic?

Go read it. I doubt there are many genuine posters on it.

But then what would random people get there rocks off random posting on mymsnet, when there are other sites for their thrills, and especially the threads usually get pulled when it's an obvious troll etc

The sex topic is full of blokes with friendly 'advice' on sex, blowjobs, anal, positions....It's their favourite hang out room on here
