Totally inappropriate enormous vibrator adverts now ALL over Mumnset.

What on earth are you thinking of? Is Mumsnet really that short of cash that they have to stoop this low?

Not to mention the ridiculous woke language ie "people with wombs".

Totally inappropriate on ALL levels.

"Some of the wording"?

No no no no, read the room. This is an enormous issue and relates to trans politics. You need to decide where you stand and be consistent.

Either claim TWAW and alienate most of your female membership or accept that trans is much like a political or religious belief and is something that you will never be able to force upon us.

You need to be reviewing your own policies and practices, not discussing the wording of an advert. It's the entire ethos behind the damn words which are at fault and women won't wheesht any more.

👏👏👏

Rooiboss · 02/02/2023 11:51

Yeah I was embarrassed opening the website with my phone full view of colleagues!

SausageInCider · 02/02/2023 11:51

I can’t see the people with wombs wording anywhere on the site - I can see “people with a clitoris” and “vulva owners”

also I could be after a new toy and it looks like they have a lot of options but there’s no fucking way I’m buying one from this company because of the dehumanising language they use.

so it looks like either nobody at MN is even slightly gender critical or they’re afraid to speak out about this absolute nonsense.

PizzaDeliveryZ · 02/02/2023 11:52

When are you going to start advertising hats for head havers, socks for foot havers, rings for people with at least one finger, jeans for people with legs, tissues for people with noses etc?

Rooiboss · 02/02/2023 11:53

Jesus.. please don’t tell me mumsnet used that terminology. Are we going to be changing the forum name to peoplewithchildrennet next?

Tinysoxxx · 02/02/2023 11:53

‘People that have wombs’ includes female babies upwards so I find that phrase distasteful.

‘women’ is the word they need to use. That covers women that have had hysterectomies too.

Youwhatnowbiggles · 02/02/2023 11:53

First Justine labels Mumsnet users as ‘deranged’ in her Telegraph interview, then this🤦🏼‍♀️.

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 02/02/2023 11:53

FWIW if you add the Decreased Productivity extension to Chrome (if of course you use chrome), you can click it and it turns all websites to just plain text and gets rid of images. NOT that we should have to but if you're concerned about the ad it's a way around it.

JusteanBiscuits · 02/02/2023 11:54

Moopsi · 02/02/2023 11:45

The point is that it says its for "people with wombs" 🙄

I've only seen the quote around women with vulva's.

TheFairyCaravan · 02/02/2023 11:54

I am so bloody sick of woman being treated like it’s a naughty word. We’re women, not vulva havers, womb owners or cervix havers or any other bollocks that you want to call us.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 02/02/2023 11:49

Another gem from their site.

To be cisgender or cissexual is someone who's gender identity is the same as the sex they were assigned at birth. Someone with female genitals for example, may identify as a woman and so would be known as cisgender, often abbreviated as cis.

What is this utter shite?

Good point. Baby girls are 'vulva owners' - are these toys suitable for them?

It's terrible language.

Justanothercatlady · 02/02/2023 11:56

It’s obscene that women are reduced to being described as part of the female anatomy. Never mind the patronising pat on the head for ‘taboos’ and cheery coy responses. Did they get a bloody time machine and interview people from Stepford 1950s? (Apologies to women of the era who were open and paved the way for woman's rights! So bloody livid). It’s almost like HQ are focused on £ and not the actual community.

SausageInCider · 02/02/2023 11:56

I found the people with wombs shite

baby bottles as bullet points?

Why not tits, if we're going to be supportive of breastfeeding?

I'd imagine that's a whole other minefield. Chest feeders and all that.

The implication of ' what are you thinking about when making up a bottle really? Having a cheeky wank of course you dirty bitch lol' is so deeply unpleasant.

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/02/2023 11:57

Tell you what, @CherylMumsnet , get Smile to produce a vibrator for people who know what a woman is. In green, white and violet. You could call it the Wheesht.

With apologies to your user name @ZeroFuchsGiven , Fuck That Shit!

The combination of utter wishful bobbins combined with the patronising "you probably want to catch up with modern day rules" tone gives me rhe ABSOLUTE RAGE

Now that did make me smile

SausageInCider · 02/02/2023 11:58

Oh and @CherylMumsnet the words are not “unpopular” it’s fucking offensive

SilentNightDancer · 02/02/2023 11:59

"The lack of conversation and resources on the topic is leaving women and people with wombs feeling side-lined as sexual beings."

'People with wombs' are 'sexual beings'.

What a weird description.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 02/02/2023 12:00

"Smile Makers"??? You're kidding, right?!? I didn't get as far as looking at who was selling this stuff, the advert was offputting enough without. But what a name. We'll be promoting "personal daintiness" next.

One of the things that MN is known for is being, um, down to earth. We don't really do twee. And it's funny how easy it is to be twee and offensive at the same time.

Anyone else contemplating leaving with me?

Nah, not me, it's just another crumby advert in a society full of this nonsense. It's not as if the mods said, yes, we think our MNetters will just luuuurve this. (You didn't did you? Grin)

Wtf? Why, just WHY, is a sex toy company even going there?

Calling me a vulva owner, telling me I’m cisgender. Why are you fucking telling me what I am and thinking it’s going to make me want to buy a vibrator from you?

You have GOT to be kidding me?!

TheSilveryPussycat · 02/02/2023 12:01

I am creeped out by the names of some of the other vibes - The Firefighter? The Tennis Pro?

I’ve just had a baby and am desperate to reconnect with my sexuality but have no idea how to. Can’t remember to all of 9 months ago, I was a different person then, I can only have mum sex now.

The obstacles are not lack of time, lack of motivation, leaking nipples, brith injuries and lack of sleep. All I really need is a special vibrator that has been made with me in mind. Thank god someone has thought of me, now I can bust that taboo.
