any chance of a covid style war topic for all the "are we going to war " threads please.

OP posts:
Smokeahontas · 25/02/2022 14:40

@Pixiedust1234

I think its more that there are loads of the same threads as people can't be bothered to see if somebody else has posted similar. Just how many threads do we need to see with Russia in the title? If people can't keep it to a couple of threads then move them all to a different area. Why should I hide several threads a day instead of just one section?

I'm with you op.

This is exactly it. There has to be 100 ‘can anyone explain what’s going on with Ukraine and Russia?’ threads, not to mention the ridiculous ones like ‘AIBU to stream Ukrainian music in solidarity?’.
BearOfEasttown · 25/02/2022 16:56

100% agree @Sparklingbrook

AlternativePerspective · 25/02/2022 17:29

Well the Ukrainian music one provided my DP and his colleagues something to laugh heartily about so at least it achieved something. Grin.

TBH I’m using an iPhone with voiceover and am unable to hide threads

I didn't open that thread. Is it worth a look?
TeenPlusCat · 25/02/2022 17:56

I would personally prefer a separate board because:

  • I think there will be a lot of repeated / similar threads so they can be grouped together
  • my MH is shaky and I come on MN for escapism and seeing thread titles with wild predictions really isn't helpful, much easier to avoid a whole board than 100 random threads
  • MN moves threads on women's rights / safeguarding children all the time because some people don't like to see them on AIBU or Chat

YES! To this. ^

I have started a new thread on here but it has no responses yet. Does anyone know how to hide a thread from 'TRENDING NOW' at the side of the page? I hide threads, but they still show there...

Sorry to derail slightly, can anyone advise?

BearOfEasttown · 25/02/2022 18:09

And now we have a thread asking if she will be safe to travel abroad given the unrest in Ukraine and Russia. She is going to SPAIN! FFS! Confused

Ridiculous! Hmm

I don't know whether I can @BearOfEasttown, will I be adding music to my Spotify after reading it? Shock

There are going to be so many daft questions coming up. Perhaps there should be a War Topic and a 'Daft questions about War' topic too.

MarshaBradyo · 25/02/2022 18:16

Actually some threads are quite close to the levels of speculation we’ve had with Covid

Not sure if I want them siphoned off but it’s full on again

BearOfEasttown · 25/02/2022 18:21

ALL on just the AIBU board by the way. I haven't checked CHAT.

I don’t want a separate board. PLEASE can you not just make it possible to hide threads without opening them. I’m dealing with infertility and spend way too long opening and hiding the threads that upset me. This would help everyone who wants to avoid certain things.

MarshaBradyo · 25/02/2022 18:29

I have to open threads to hide them and I’d love not to have to as well

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2022 18:30

Well nobody seems to be arguing about the wearing and non wearing of masks any more. Forget all that when there's important panic buying to be done.

Every single brain fart must have it's own thread it seems.

BIWI · 25/02/2022 18:30

I agree @Samcro. And I really don't understand the vitriol being aimed at you for suggesting this Hmm

Creating a topic specifically for this issue isn't about hiding anything away. But what it does is to reveal just how many MNetters only ever bother to read AIBU or Chat.

So if specific topics aren't welcomed by all those posters, why not just do away with all the boards and just have AIBU and Chat? FFS.

I am sorry you are dealing with infertility @Phrenologistsfinger, but I fail to see how all the Ukraine/Russia threads being put onto a board specifically created for them is going to make any difference to you, and your plight. Confused
MarshaBradyo · 25/02/2022 18:48

BAT! SHIT!

It’s a shame because I do want to hear insights on it but when it goes full tilt it’s too much.

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2022 18:49

I am wondering if all the self appointed Covid experts on here will now be War experts instead.

Phrenologistsfinger · 25/02/2022 18:58

@BearOfEasttown fgs, use your skills of comprehension! If the anxious people who don’t want to see the war threads can easily hide them, then you don’t need a separate board. This is a major world event!

Phrenologistsfinger · 25/02/2022 18:59

My point is this change would have a wider benefit to anyone avoiding any topic for any reason Hmm

@Phrenologistsfinger

Yeah it's a 'major world event' so it needs a separate board, so people on AIBU don't have to see daft threads like 'will I be OK to go to Spain with the current issues in UKRAINE and RUSSIA?' and 'what about the Eurovision song contest? And will my 16 y.o. (BRITISH) child be conscripted?' And shit threads titled 'the snow' and when someone opened it, it was a scaremongering WAR thread.

We need a separate board because whilst a few decent sensible threads have been started about Ukraine and Russia on AIBU and Chat, dozens and dozens of pointless and ludicrous ones have been started too. Stupid and pointless ones AND scaremongering ones.

Maybe YOU should use your 'comprehension skills' HUN! Hmm (If you have any! Doesn't sound much like it!)
