It's happening again! I posted, it didn't show in Acive. A post made 4 minutes before mine was the last post on the Active list.

Anyone know why this is happening and if I can fix it at my end?Confused

Tried re installing.

Annoying.

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/12/2021 15:39

This thread is still showing on Active (despitethe last post being 15:31), yet the other thread was posted on at 15:36 and isn't.🙄

Hi @TooBigForMyBoots,

Hmm, this one's a bit puzzling.

Is there a chance that the thread in question is in a topic that you've hidden? You can check your Talk Preferences - topics and threads here.

We're wondering if it's a thread you accessed via Trending (which always shows the 5 most viewed threads, regardless of whether they're in your excluded topics).

If you can let us know the thread in question we'll happily take a closer look. You can report this post and send us the link that way, if you'd rather not post the link here.

Still happening. Made this post at 00:07. Not showing on Active. But the 2nd, made 10 minutes earlier is on Active.

This thread is showing in Active. I posted a test post on the Giles Coren thread at 00:20 (or round about).

No show on Active. Not hidden by me. So what's happening @JoMumsnet?Xmas Confused

OP posts:
TooBigForMyBoots · 08/04/2022 02:11

The same thing is happening with the Noah Donshoe threads.Confused I have reported it.

Do new posts on threads not make them Active @JoMumsnet?

OP posts:
TooBigForMyBoots · 08/04/2022 02:36

I have posted on the Noah Donahoe thread twice since making my last post on this one.

This thread is in Active, the Noah Donahoe thread isn't.Confused What is going on @MNHQ?

StevenTechMumsnet · 08/04/2022 02:37

Hi there, once threads are over 100 (or maybe 50?) posts not every post sends them to the top of active. Fair point that that makes less sense in the middle of the night when there are fewer posts around. We'll mention to the product people. It might be something they can look at on the new platform.

Yiayoula · 08/04/2022 06:05

Perhaps the ‘ new platform ‘ could feature MNHQ adding their weight to cases like Noah’s.

Fiona is a parent.
She needs everyone’s support.
Isn’t that what Mumsnet is supposed to be about ?

Please stand by Noah’s Mum, MNHQ.
Thank you. 💙💙

This doesn't seem to fit with the problem being experienced with the OP and all posters on these threads @StevenTechMumsnet :

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4514507-Aibu-to-think-if-the-worst-happened-and-your-child-died-in-mysterious-circumstances-you-should-have-a-right-to-know-what-happened
and

Both these threads usually take 5 posts to get them into Active. This is usually somewhere in Active and not the top. Then, more often than not, rather than gradually dropping down the Active list, they drop out of it like a stone.

I was advised by MNHQ to bump my thread hourly to get it into Active but that just does not work.

Such is the problem that several posters have been comparing what happens with these two threads with what happens with other threads appearing in Active. Other threads, even those over 50/100 posts, appear in Active after one or two posts and can still be in Active, slowly dropping down the list, even when there have been no posts on them for 40 minutes or so. And yet, the above threads, with more recent posts have disappeared from Active.

It leaves posters feeling frustrated and concerned that 2 important threads, about supporting the mother of a missing child - something we all believe Mumsnet should actually want to get behind - are being treated less favourably than other threads.

A while ago, I reported a similar problem with an unconnected thread not appearing in Active. I received a quick and cheery response back from MNHQ, basically saying 'we've sorted that for you now' and my understanding was that the algorithms applied to that thread in terms of getting an equal go with Active had been re-adjusted. Whatever was done, it worked, and that thread then performed like any other thread and right up to having 1000 posts.

Can something similar be done for the above two threads please?

Yiayoula · 08/04/2022 10:26

TheRealMrsMac

Well said !
What’s happening here, please, MNHQ and Steven the Tech ?

TheRealMrsMac · 08/04/2022 18:26

No reply from MNHQ?

TooBigForMyBoots · 08/04/2022 19:23

Now the Craicnet thread isn't appearing in Acive either. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/craicnet/3951182-Noah-Donohoe?msgid=116481784#116481784

How do you choose which threads this happens to @MNHQ?

OP posts:
TheRealMrsMac · 08/04/2022 20:19

That thread used to appear after one post, now it takes two to appear - I think.

LilyMumsnet · 08/04/2022 20:25

Hi all

We're not too sure what's happening here, but we are investigating and will get back to you as soon as possible!

I spoke too soon on your thread @LilyMumsnet - here you are! You're a welcome sight.

TheRealMrsMac · 08/04/2022 20:29

Just to add to the consternation, some threads are in Active twice at the same time - in duplicate! - yet the threads about Noah are barely getting a turn at all.

Yiayoula · 09/04/2022 07:59

@LilyMumsnet
Do you have any updates on these thread anomalies, please ?

Because it’s still happening on every Noah thread.
Very strange indeed.

Thank you.

Yiayoula · 09/04/2022 08:02

As an example, my single post above , the first one on this thread for almost 12 hours, took it straight to Active .

And yet the ones about Noah rarely appear.

Why would this be, do you think ?

A580Hojas · 09/04/2022 08:16

I don't quite understand. Are you saying that Active Conversations works differently now HQ? I always thought Active Conversations was a simple list of threads most recently posted on (excluding hidden topics and off the beaten track) in time of post order.

LilyMumsnet · 09/04/2022 11:06

Hi all

Active is working as it should be at the moment.

There is an algorithm that lets active threads with fewer posts get a little bit more time in active so that we don't end up with lots of threads that have very little activity on them, and a few threads dominating active for a long time. We think this is pretty fair!

We're going to take all feedback on board but there's not too much we can do at this very moment. We have the new site coming very soon so we're a bit snowed! But keep any thoughts coming and we'll pass them over. We're going to look at the duplicate issues on Monday so bear with us.
