MN very slow and keep getting this error message

Been having problems with mn this morning, it is horrendously slow and then I keep getting this error message as well
Not sure if it is just me
I am on iPad safari using desktop (because I cannot access the mobile site)

It's a thread about politics 50/50 in fwr. Usually when fwr is mentioned someone groans and whines about having blocked the whole subject and why are feminists allowed all over the site/cant we stay in our lane etc. Its only my opinion btw that that thread started the DDOS, that thread got heated and it looks like swiss cheese now too. But the point I guess is still there.

I dont think it's coincidence that the MN twitter account has been interacting with transactivists this afternoon, when a quick squizz suggests that isn't something they normally do on twitter.

Agree it's suspicious that there is a ddos attack just after a very interesting and illuminating thread on FWR (now turned into swiss cheese due to deletions, unfortunately)

"The watchers" don't like us pesky women talking to each other, I guess!

There was another illuminating thread started overnight. It was taken down by MNHQ this morning.

The OP is a member of the gaming community, as was one of the angry people on the 50:50 thread.

No other website suffers from DDOS attacks like this.

They need to upgrade their security and spend more on the tech side of things. The content here is great but the tech side is like a forum from about 2005.

I’m having various problems trying to access the forum.

There are error messages and re-connecting messages as well as capatchas to complete.

I can’t get into the mobile site at all, had to go in via desk top site.

I agree with MechantGourmet it happens all the time. It happened to one of my employer's websites a few weeks ago and wasn't the first time for that site either. They took it down for a while and apologised, but never said publicly what had happened. MN is more open about it than most.

This is a place for women to talk to each other. There are plenty of men who want women to shut up. The frequency of attacks is a sign that we're doing something right.

But it's only here where it seems to happen so often and where it causes so much disruption.

If MN security is so lax that they're subject to DDOS attacks that regularly compromise their website (and in the past which have compromised users personal information) then they need to upgrade their security systems!

I did wonder if pathetic people who think they are oh so big and clever were attacking the site again to shut down women talking. Just can't have those pesky women talking or not agreeing with them.

Working fine for me now, had the browser check earlier and so far so good, frustrating for you having to deal with this yet again MNHQ.

The last DDOS attack to actually bring the site down for any prolonged period was in 2015, and we upgraded our security significantly after that. It's not usual for these DDOS attacks to affect the site - normally the firewall is sufficient. This is unfortunately a particularly large scale and persistent attack but there is no evidence of any security breach that would compromise anyone's personal info.
