How to view your Mumsnet notifications

JanineMumsnet · 09/11/2020 10:24

As of today, some of you may notice that your ‘My Mumsnet’ icon at the top right of the screen will start to show a red numbered notification icon. We are rolling out a new notifications feed, the purpose of which is to let you know when there are updates to things that you are following.

To see your notifications, just click on the 'My Mumsnet' icon and select 'Notifications' from the drop down menu.

At the moment there are two types of notifications displayed within your feed:

Mentions on a thread. When a user types @YourUsername within a thread, you’ll receive a notification for each mention you receive.

Updates to a thread you are watching. These will be aggregated by thread, so if there are 10 new posts on a thread you have been watching you will receive one notification for that thread. If you have email notifications switched on for mentions and ‘threads I’m watching’, you will still receive these via email too.

When you have clicked on a notification in your feed that notification will be marked as read.

If you have a lot of notifications and you want to dismiss them all, just click ‘mark all as read’.

Please be aware, you may not see this feature straight away as we are releasing this feature incrementally, but soon enough this should be available to all users.

Over time we’ll make improvements to the notifications feed, so we welcome any and all comments. Please leave your feedback and questions below.

All gone! Thank you.

LittleMissNaice · 16/11/2020 17:09

Thank you. But for those of us who might actually keep the notifications, any chance you could sort out the bookmarking issue?

JanineMumsnet · 16/11/2020 17:13

@LittleMissNaice the @mention notification should take you to that specific post. Your unread notifications for threads I'm watching should take you to the last unread post on that thread based on when you last viewed that thread.

Are you saying something different is happening, or you'd prefer something different to happen?

I click on a notification (either the one that I got to say you'd mentioned me, or a regular someone has posted one) and it takes me to either the top of the page that is last bookmarked on or the top of the first page of the thread. It doesn't take me to a bookmarked post or a post I'm mentioned in.

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/11/2020 18:37

Thank you!

Could some kind soul PM me so that I can see if I get the turquoise dot please?

june2007 · 16/11/2020 18:54

I want it off.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/11/2020 19:15

Now messages are separate I’m happy to ignore it

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/11/2020 19:23

Blondes has kindly PMed me and I can confirm that the blue/green dot works Smile

I do miss the little bell though

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/11/2020 19:42

Well I wasn’t going to mention the jiggling bell 😂😂😂

But yes can the blue green turquoise dot move please @JustineMumsnet

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 16/11/2020 19:50

Oh thank goodness - I have been able to turn them off!

FlouncerInDenial · 16/11/2020 20:07

Thank you for the ability to turn the notifications off.

I think I've now done this, and hopefully I'll still get emails.

I will remain sad at the loss of the bell, but I guess I'll get used to the new colour dot. The bell was cute though, and I'm sorry for it going ☹

FlouncerInDenial · 16/11/2020 20:08

P.s. would someone mind sending me a pm so I can see if I've still got the new dot since turning the notifications off?

Quaagars · 16/11/2020 20:12

Just done Smile
LangClegsInSpace · 16/11/2020 20:13

Thank you!

FlouncerInDenial · 16/11/2020 20:31

Thank you @Quaagars. I replied.

Unfortunately, I still have the red notifications despite having turned them off Confused 🤷‍♀️

AdaColeman · 16/11/2020 20:43

So we can now turn off the red blob, but we can't stop the actual notifications pouring into our in box? Is that right?
Or is there a way to get rid rid of the notifications totally?

MrsBrunch · 16/11/2020 21:08

I've turned notifications off but still getting them.

FlouncerInDenial · 16/11/2020 21:12

Me too MrsBrunch 😱🤐

Sleazeyjet · 16/11/2020 21:31

Thank you.

JanineMumsnet · 17/11/2020 08:37

@MrsBrunch

I've turned notifications off but still getting them.
Can I just clarify, are you still getting the red dot even though you have turned it off?

You will still be able to access the feed which will still update with notifications if you turn it off, but you should see the red dot.

It's a compromise. I no longer have the red dot but knowing the notifications are still there is annoying. I still feel I have to go in every so often and clear them.

Long term I would prefer that you fine tune it more so that users can opt out entirely of the notifications feed not just turn off the red dot.
