First crack at a new quote feature - please check it out

Hi all,
We've released a new quote feature (finally you might say). I've attached some screenshots to show you where it's housed on site. Please give it a go so we can check it's working ok for all and across devices. We've taken the decision not to include threading for now - both because it would have been a lot more dev time and because it can affect the flow of conversations but this is something we can revisit in time if folks prefer. Please do let us know what you think/ further improvements etc. Big thanks.

is it?

Ajollygoodwrap · 26/05/2020 17:55

Yes. And you can quote any post without a quote, not just the OP.

00100001 · 26/05/2020 17:55

Oh, I see, yes.

having it only appear on posts without a quote in it makes it look broken... :/

wowsaid · 26/05/2020 17:57

This is almost useless considering you can't click back to the quoted message.

Fgs it's not hard to behave like every single other forum out there

00100001 · 26/05/2020 17:57

well, first impressions are.....

  1. I want to snip the quote please.... otherwise there'll be walls of text all over the place.

  2. make it for every post please, otherwise, there will be lots of site stuff going "I can't quote so and so"

both things aboe mean you can't quote a rpely to a post....iysqim??

OP: Roses are red
P1: QUOTE"Roses are red"/QUOTE - no they're dark pink
P2 can't now quote P1

@wowsaid - you have to consider that MN forum, is bespoke and ancient. so making changes isn't actually that easy.

Having said that, I believe they are working on a large overhaul of the site to modernise it.

I'm quoting myself.

Just be cause I can.

00100001 · 26/05/2020 18:02

is it supposed to be everywhere now?

oh, @WorraLiberty

That's interesting, the formatting messes up in the quote!

Hi MrsWooster, it should in theory be restricted to single-level quotes. We'll check what's going on there as it seems someone has quoted a message with a quote.
Oooh!

Err, i broke your quote feature..

Clymene · 26/05/2020 18:09

So I can quote a post but not where someone else has quoted someone. So if I wanted to reply to Pelleas's ooh for example, I couldn't quote that

Ouchjuststoodonlego · 26/05/2020 18:09

The point about snipping is very valid though.

Quote feature is great.

I personally hate threading so if this is introduced I would prefer it to be an option rather than a default.
