Just wondering. I received a private message and sent 2 replies and now the recipient has received a message from MNHQ saying the replies were removed at my request. Except that's not true, I made no such request.

If you say so.

TedsFederationRep · 19/04/2020 08:50

😂

Better stay away from the Car Crash of Compulsory Niceness and Fake Smiles then. It's just too upsetting for words.

But thank you for alerting me to the truth.

OldRumbly · 19/04/2020 08:53

By that same logic, you must wonder why so many have chosen to stay put here if Mumsnet was as vile as they make it out to be. Could it be they're wrong too? 😂Wink

TedsFederationRep · 19/04/2020 09:01

Actually, OldRumbly, if you read my earlier posts, I am a member of both sites. I intend to stay a member of both sites and I observe the rules of both sites. There is no rule that says I can't belong to both.

I get something different from each of them.

I don't make claims that people are faking niceness and smiles because I'm not a mind reader nor do I claim on either site that "things are swept up under the carpet" because that would be a wild assertion for which I have no proof.

Join, don't join, fine either way.

OldRumbly · 19/04/2020 09:07

People have "not only joined in such a short time but stayed" because it's a new site, promising heaven and earth, claiming they're not like Mumsnet and Reddit. People are curious, some have taken the bait, some genuinely want to be there but don't be naive enough to think you can compare a new site with one that's been around for ages. As I said, give it time, then see how it goes. Once they're tired of slagging off other forums, which happens to be a common interest right now. Rules are being put in place and if they grow, more rules will have to be made. That's when the problem begins. Just don't be a hypocrite, is all I'm saying. Not you, just in general.

OldRumbly · 19/04/2020 09:11

Again, if you say so. I agree you can be on both sites, don't think I said anywhere you can't. Hypocrisy is my problem and I see it there. Just stating my observation as you've stated yours. You have your perspective, I have mine. Why try to invalidate mine because you're seeing differently? Anyway, fee free to live your life.

TedsFederationRep · 19/04/2020 09:18

Thank you for your wise words.

I'll try to curb my naivety.

OldRumbly · 19/04/2020 09:18

Also I'm saying "People on the site", "they". Obviously there are exceptions. Not everyone is the same. Unless you're claiming to speak for the site and know everything going on there, then never mind if you're not one of the people I'm talking about. Enjoy your part of the site with genuinely nice people enjoying a pleasant chat. Why be all defensive?

oogers · 19/04/2020 09:47

What I like about the other site (apart from having useful features) is people are speaking the way you do in real life, where as here some (not all) are pretty spiteful. This is unique to MN, you don't get such unpleasantness on tattle or MSE.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 19/04/2020 13:11

I'm on both. There is a kinder vibe about the other place, perhaps because it's new. That doesnt mean that people dont express strong opinions though, they do, just without calling other posters fat stupid cunts. Which seems reasonable to me...

Schuyler · 19/04/2020 13:55

New sites always start off great. People form cliques, trolls join, shit stirring people join, admin change rules because they have to. It’s going to change, for better or worse.

LawrenceMarlow · 19/04/2020 14:25

There’s shadiness about the other site as the identity of its owner is hidden. They’re also now trying to play down the link with Tattle Life. One of the first posters on the new site is someone who used to be a moderator on TL and we’re involved in setting up TL. They started off with their TL name on the new site but have now changed it.

ArriettyJones · 19/04/2020 14:39

Is tattle life that weird place bitching about you tubers and “influencers” in minute and bizarre detail? I saw that one linked here once. If not, what is it. (Scared to google that one because of the name.)

LawrenceMarlow · 19/04/2020 14:47

That’s the one. Posters generally get on because they’re united in bitching about social media stars and celebs. The few posters who would disagree used to usually get called trolls and mysteriously deleted.

Anonuser1 · 19/04/2020 14:50

The people on the new seem to spend all their time talking about how nice they are or bitching about MN

Apart from that there's not a lot of content.

Anonuser1 · 19/04/2020 14:50

New site*

LawrenceMarlow · 19/04/2020 14:55

Like ‘the new site’, Tattle Life had a strategy of poaching Mumsnetters. DMs were sent. It also was set up when GuruGossip was struggling and directly copied the GG format to provide a rival place to discuss influencers and YouTubers.

The new site was deliberately set up to benefit from MN struggling and to provide a new place for its users. This is totally different from NetMums and Reddit. NetMums was set up the same year as MN, is a well known site and it’s not actively encouraging posters to come to it. Reddit may have the MN trolls sub but as a whole it’s a completely different concept.

Anonuser1 · 19/04/2020 15:02

It's all very underhand and sneaky. Fair enough set up some sort of new chat site but to copy MN and then spam it for users is a bit low IMO.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 19/04/2020 17:21

There's a weird kind of vibe around the 'poaching' issue for me. Everyone is entitled to be on any site they like, whether they wish to pay for membership (in some cases) or not.

The new place is not all about MN at all, there are loads of threads on other topics just as there are here. I would suspect that some people only look for certain types of threads, just as some on here only look at certain forums.

Horses for courses 'n all.

When posters are saying “poaching” they are referring to the deliberate posts and PMs over here that link to the new site and encourage MNers to click across. Which certain posters in the new site were apparently encouraging each other to do.

Nobody thinks there is a problem with belonging to multiple chat sites.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 19/04/2020 17:33

Arriety how then do posters (here or elsewhere) find other sites, unless someone says "oh you might like this place"? short of googling desperately, but most people seem to prefer some sort of recommendation rather than crash banging into a place they've never heard of before.

T'internet is MASSIVE, there's room for everyone somewhere.

ArriettyJones · 19/04/2020 17:47

Seriously? Confused

Personal recommendations don’t have to happen on Mumsnet.

I don’t think I’ve found any of the other sites I use via Mumsnet.

Personal recommendations are fine but I don’t expect Mumsnet HQ to put up with the poaching.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if another new site tried spamming the recent new site for members. Grin

Anonuser1 · 19/04/2020 18:11

Good point. Maybe I should go and spam the new site with links to other sites I use. 😂

I suspect the ban hammer would fall very swiftly.

OldRumbly · 19/04/2020 18:20

Hypocrites they are on that site, I tell you!

OldRumbly · 19/04/2020 18:23

Telling members here about a new site they can join is much different from spamming this site with links to a "better site than Mumsnet". I swear, some people are kidding themselves with excuses.
