Does MNHQ Check Our Inboxes?

Chillyourbeans · 14/04/2020 22:43

Just wondering. I received a private message and sent 2 replies and now the recipient has received a message from MNHQ saying the replies were removed at my request. Except that's not true, I made no such request.

I had the same- message about the mums chat forum. Now it’s says “message deleted at user request”. Obviously that’s not true. HQ have clearly deleted them. They need to change the deletion message to “message deleted by MNHQ”

BringMeSunshineInMyLife · 14/04/2020 23:15

So people think the site hasn't been hacked again?

Isn't sending multiple messages something that hackers do?

I did notice lots of people posting recently about receiving extortion emails containing partial passwords. I wonder if it is linked?

CheshireChat · 14/04/2020 23:16

I'm curious what MN will reply to this, but I expect it'll be in the morning

wildcherries · 14/04/2020 23:16

Concerning. Following

Cherrysoup · 14/04/2020 23:18

This happened to me too, a few hours ago. The subject was Hello, Sorry for the out of the blue PM but if yo.

Had exactly that message myself. I was all excited about getting a message, it hardly ever happens!

ArriettyJones · 14/04/2020 23:19

MNHQ have said before that they can check PMs, and that they do so if they feel it is necessary for modding.

No idea why several people would have had this happen today, though.

Not unless PMs are going to be for the paying MNers only.

Watertorture · 14/04/2020 23:20

Oh mine's gone too. Obviously it's a bit rude to advertise a competing web site via this one. I think HQ has always been able to read messages I don't think they've ever been private in that sense.

ArriettyJones · 14/04/2020 23:20

Oh sounds more like a mass spamming.

I’d get this moved to Site Stuff, OP.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 14/04/2020 23:21

They’ll have checked who the spammer sent messages to and deleted them that way- they won’t have checked peoples inboxes just because.

BringMeSunshineInMyLife · 14/04/2020 23:22

All in the past few days plus at least one other that has gone:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3877155-Blackmail-email

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3876328-Email-from-random-saying-they-know-my-password-AND-THEY-DO-What-next

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3879944-Freaky-hacker-email-with-part-of-my-password

Not a good time for Mumsnet to be hacked again if that is what has happened.

UserDeleted · 14/04/2020 23:23

I had that message about the new site too. And now its been deleted at the request of the user. Yeah, right.

MnHq can see our inboxes if they wish. And clearly are happy to snoop.

Chillyourbeans · 14/04/2020 23:24

Well now I'm worried. How do I get this moved to Site Stuff please?

OP posts:
n00bMaster69 · 14/04/2020 23:25

Report thread and ask for it to be moved.

That’s it!

ArriettyJones · 14/04/2020 23:26

What? Someone is trying to recruit members for a brand new site? By PM?

That’s a bit ambitious and vaguely like the Moldies debacle.

Or is it an existing site swooping in to get more members off the back of the premium service thing?

ArriettyJones · 14/04/2020 23:28

Don’t panic @Chillyourbeans it sounds like a bit of cheekiness that MNHQ has stamped out, not like a security issue.

AlCalavicci · 14/04/2020 23:30

To get it moved to site stuff report your own OP (on the blue banner at the top of each post ) and ask for it to be moved

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 14/04/2020 23:31

I’m a bit more alarmed to see people have had messages including their passwords!! Have HQ made any comment on that? Has the site been hacked? Again?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/04/2020 23:33

Yep

They report that it's growing like crazy too ...

ArriettyJones · 14/04/2020 23:34

They report that it's growing like crazy too ...

Who is it?

bruffin · 14/04/2020 23:34

Have all these people having their messages read and deleted signed up to premium? Or not signed up?
I got the message, but I havent signed up for premium

AgeLikeWine · 14/04/2020 23:34

Me too. The message was from a user called ‘theodoref’. When I used advanced search to look up that user’s posts, it found nothing. Most odd...

PurpleDaisies · 14/04/2020 23:35

I feel left out having not got a message!

Have I been picked last in PE again?

BanKittenHeels · 14/04/2020 23:37

I expect the people promoting their new site (I have no issue with it) are being banned and subsequently their messages disappear along with them.

BringMeSunshineInMyLife · 14/04/2020 23:39

Is it an X rated site?
