Can you help us to improve the Mumsnet site?

Across this year we intend to make some improvements to features on Mumsnet talk with the aim of enhancing your experience of using the site. The first of which is to improve the functionality of the 'threads I'm watching' and bookmark features.

You might have used these features, or you may have no idea they even existed, either way we'd love it if you could complete this quick survey.

Any additional comments you want to add to this thread would also be welcome.

Thanks

Hide threads on mobile on safari without having to click on them

ReaganSomerset · 06/02/2019 12:53

Done. I would also like a like button or similar. I genuinely don't think it would impede the discussions on the site. My reasoning for this is:

  1. Sites like the Guardian have a like feature and the discussions flow well. It also helps the lurkers get more involved.
  2. It saves lots of posts that say 'I agree with X', which do nothing to further the discussion.
  3. It saves time not copying and pasting usernames and faffing around with the bold function to tell someone you agree with them/show the op the strength of one viewpoint or opinion.
FadedRed · 06/02/2019 12:54

I did this survey hoping there would be a comments section to bring up, yet again, the issues with using Safari on iPad.

Cismyfatarse1 · 06/02/2019 12:57

I did the survey. I access Mumsnet in different ways. The final question only allowed you to choose one way.

gamerchick · 06/02/2019 12:59

Please don't introduce a like button. This isn't Facebook.

I'd love a quote button though or a timed edit button.

JanineMumsnet · 06/02/2019 13:03

@Cismyfatarse thanks for the feedback on the survey, the question asks which one you use most often? Are you saying it's equal between a number of devices?

@MarshaBradyo sorry to disappoint. But this is being looked into.

Thanks for the other suggestions, we will review them and see what we can do in the future.

Is 'threads I'm watching' the same as 'threads I'm on'?

ReaganSomerset · 06/02/2019 13:03

No, it's not Facebook and that's a good thing but a like button wouldn't make it Facebook either.

gamerchick · 06/02/2019 13:08

We don't need a like button and thankfully more people are against them than not on past threads. It's a lazy way of engaging with a thread.

MarshaBradyo · 06/02/2019 13:10

Like buttons come up frequently I am a no no no

It’s not necessary and undermines what makes this site different and better

MarshaBradyo · 06/02/2019 13:11

Not keen on the quoting function while I’m at it ;

Yotam · 06/02/2019 13:15

I’ll like an option to just pull up the OP and any subsequent posts they make. On long threads, especially ones that people just make an inane comment on to bookmark their place, it can be quite hard to keep track of what the original poster has gone on to say. I know they can be highlighted but it still means scrolling through pages sometimes.

Time40 · 06/02/2019 13:15

Please please please don't get a Like button!

pinkunicorn20 · 06/02/2019 13:16

Not sure if this is relevant but I recently switched from Apple to android and find the android app terrible by comparison. Clunky controls and fewer options for personalisation. Would love the same functions.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/02/2019 13:20

If I could make just one change to MN, it would be to add an Edit Post feature - even if you could only edit posts within 15 minutes of posting, and thereafter they'd be locked. It would make it possible to correct those embarrassing fat-finger typos that I fail to notice before posting, but see immediately the post appears. And it would reduce the number of posts correcting these typos that can clutter a thread up a bit.

TwitterQueen1 · 06/02/2019 13:44

I'd like a 'Dismiss' button for when I'm done with threads but don't necessarily want to hide them. Currently they clutter up my TIA list even when I'm done with posting. I only Hide posts when I'm being abused, which unfortunately seems to be happening more often.....

HankNPat · 06/02/2019 15:43

Done

No to a Like button too!

Advanced Search is very basic - some extra search functions on that could be useful

WineGummyBear · 06/02/2019 15:46

I'd like it if all the posts by the OP were highlighted on a thread. I read on my phone and can never see if there are updates because they are not highlighted

BiglyBadgers · 06/02/2019 15:53

I'd like to be able to take threads off the "threads I'm on" list so that if I'm don't with posting but it's just going on and on its not clogging up the top on my list. Or at least be able to put it to the bottom.

Maybe a random thought but do we even need a specific "threads I'm on" list separate from a "threads I'm watching" list? I'm easily confused and I find it tiresome having multiple different lists that are really both just threads I'm watching. I know if I've posted in it or not, I don't need it in a different place.

BiglyBadgers · 06/02/2019 15:54

I'd like it if all the posts by the OP were highlighted on a thread. I read on my phone and can never see if there are updates because they are not highlighted

You can do this in your settings. I have the OP posts one colour and my posts another. Very handy.

Grace212 · 06/02/2019 16:00

proper categories would be good

e.g. "Other stuff" has a lot of stuff!

then I took a while to find "what we're reading" because I was looking at B for Books....

XmasPostmanBos · 06/02/2019 16:03

I'm not helping, I will wait till you are done then moan tis awful now.

Greensleeves · 06/02/2019 16:05

Get rid of that shit in thread titles where someone's tried to use quotation marks. It does my head in.

TwitterQueen1 · 06/02/2019 16:33

Xmas Grin Grin that is obviously the correct way!

hotwing · 06/02/2019 17:59

Quote function!
