Mnhq, Please look into and fix the videos automatically playing on the site!

I think it's the videos on the side of the screen when you reading a thread.

I'm using puffin on an iPad.

Thank you for disabling the auto play for now, but are you planning to reinstate them without sound?
Can you explain what would be the point of that? Is it so Mumsnet can log how many times the videos have been played?

Surely without sound they become pointless so why can't you make them choose to play instead? Even without sound they are a visual distraction.

Please consider making them choose to play.

They were still playing with sound this morning! Chrome, laptop.
Bloody irritating. Especially when you turn the sound off once and then they start again 3 minutes later.
It's the woman / pregnancy one and I think coercive control too.

If these videos continue with or without sound they still use up our data allowance

I realise the adverts earn lots of ££££ for MN HQ

But please think about the members rather than the £££££

you have disabled autoplay??? ....then why was there a message about click to play? Is autoplay the default setting and never mind what people want?

I am still wondering about tracking cookies and the like, no answer to that on my thread or this one.

It does seem quite fishy imo, as mentioned up thread "look how popular these videos are"

Just came on to see if anyone else had autoplay again and yep...for me it was on chat, video was about back pain in pregnancy, using chrome on desktop.

Still getting the same video about back pain, still on chat, still on chrome and desktop...

Sure. Seemed to stop again for a few days but just had the baby bouncer video autoplay on chat again. If it was mute it wouldn't be so bad, I probably wouldn't even notice!

I've been getting autoplay video ads on the iOS app too. Not a massive issue since this only happens with the large ad following the last post of a thread, but still a mildly annoying one nonetheless.

So autoplaying videos just woke the baby up. Again.

I've not been 100% certain I hadn't pressed it myself until tonight, but this time I wasn't even touching the iPad and a video started playing about buggies.

This is still happening. Please make it stop.

Yes, it is still happening. My Mac is set to disable all videos automatically but these flipping MN ones are still playing.

This is still happening to me, safari on iPad. Not great when I’m reading at night, with everyone else asleep (I shouldn’t have to remember to turn the volume down - no other site causes problems)!
